Pakistan to begin Ramadan on Sunday, a day after Saudi Arabia, as moon remains unseen
Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide through fasting from dawn to sunset, with most practicing Muslims considering it a time of spiritual reflection, self-discipline and devotion. Fasting serves as a means of strengthening faith and developing empathy for the less fortunate.
The month holds special significance as it was during one of its nights that the first verses of the Holy Qur'an were revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), in what is considered its most sacred night. Muslims mark Ramadan with increased prayer, charity and community gatherings, culminating in the festival of Eid Al-Fitr.
'There has been no reported sighting of the Ramadan moon,' Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, chairman of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, said while speaking to the media in northwestern Peshawar city. 'The first day of the holy month of Ramadan will be on Sunday, March 2, 2025.'
Pakistan's national space agency had already predicted the Ramadan moon would be invisible to the human eye in Pakistan on February 28, explaining the crescent would be difficult to sight due to its low altitude and distance.
It had also said people in the South Asian country were likely to mark the beginning of the holy month from March 2.
In Pakistan, however, the moon sighting committee is tasked with determining the start of new Islamic months.
The dates for Ramadan and Eid festivals are confirmed through visual observations and testimonies from different parts of the country reporting the crescent's sighting.

Over 60 million visit the Two Holy Mosques in Muharram
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque announced that a total of 60,245,635 people visited the Two Holy Mosques during the Islamic month of Muharram in 1447 AH, supported by an integrated network of services provided by the authority and participating agencies to serve pilgrims and worshippers. The authority reported that the Grand Mosque in Makkah welcomed 27,531,599 worshippers, including 47,823 who prayed in the Hateem area of Hijr Ismail. The number of Umrah performers reached 7,857,270. At the Prophet's Mosque in Madinah, the total number of worshippers reached 21,576,200, including 1,122,368 who prayed in Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah. Meanwhile, 2,110,375 people visited to greet the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and his two companions (may Allah be pleased with them). The authority stressed that it is committed to providing the highest quality services to ensure ease, comfort, and tranquility for worshippers, pilgrims, and visitors, in line with the directives of the Saudi leadership. It also reaffirmed its efforts to remove any obstacles and further enhance services at the Two Holy Mosques.

Muslim World League launches global digital Quranic reading initiatives in Makkah
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) and President of the Association of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, inaugurated a series of pioneering Quranic projects at the MWL headquarters in Makkah. The launch included the opening of the 'First Coordinating Forum for Global Digital Quranic Reading Platforms,' the unveiling of the 'Global Digital Quranic Reading Portal,' and the establishment of the world's first association dedicated to digital Quranic reading. The event, attended by leading scholars, researchers, and practitioners in Quran recitation and education, as well as representatives from 50 global digital Quranic reading platforms, highlighted advanced efforts to teach and recite the Quran remotely through modern communication technologies. Sheikh Al-Issa welcomed the guests, stressing that these initiatives align with the MWL's mission to strengthen the unity of the Muslim Ummah and serve the Holy Qur'an. He described the MWL as a gift from Saudi Arabia to the Islamic world, thanking the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continuous support of Islamic behalf of the participating platforms, Dr. Ahmed Jamil from Indonesia praised the MWL's scientific and technical vision in connecting the world to the Qur'an and facilitating its learning and mastery according to established forum's four sessions covered topics including regulations for granting Quranic ijazah (certification) via digital platforms, development of educational tools for remote Quran instruction, coordination of international efforts in digital Quranic recitation, and the presentation of innovative technology-based initiatives in Quran the forum's key recommendations was the creation of the 'Global Association for Digital Quranic Reading Platforms' under the MWL to serve as an international body for overseeing and developing digital Quranic expressed deep gratitude to Saudi Arabia and the MWL for their unwavering support of the Holy Qur'an and their leadership in global coordination of Quranic education.

Haram imam warns against fake social media accounts, misuse of technology
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — Sheikh Yasser Al-Dosari, imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, urged Muslims in his Friday sermon to verify news before sharing it and avoid spreading content from paid or fake social media accounts that fabricate statements and false fatwas. Al-Dosari warned that many of these accounts deliberately spread misinformation to distort reputations and sow division in society. He stressed that every person is accountable before God for what they publish and share online. Highlighting the Kingdom's pioneering role in harnessing technology to serve communities, he praised Saudi Arabia's vision and steady steps in the digital field. However, he cautioned against misuse, saying that smartphones have turned, for some, from tools of connection into means of isolation. 'People appear among others as bodies without hearts, senses without souls, scrolling endlessly through platforms, drowning in clips without purpose, reaping little benefit,' he said. The imam noted that social media has often become 'a theater of false lives and unfair comparisons,' breeding envy, grudges, and ingratitude. He called out fake accounts that spread lies and attributed fabricated religious rulings to scholars as part of organized campaigns of distortion. Al-Dosari emphasized the need to recognize these dangers early and restore balance. He advised taking short breaks from devices to combat 'digital addiction' and to realign life priorities.
