But what exactly makes Chitkul so magical?
Tucked away at 3,450 meters above sea level, Chitkul is more than just scenic — it's a blend of raw natural beauty, cultural richness, and ecological mindfulness. The Baspa River, which features prominently in the viral photo, winds gracefully through the village, feeding its terraced fields that grow everything from apples to barley. Surrounded by the majestic Himalayan ranges, the area boasts crisp mountain air, alpine meadows, and a thriving array of flora and fauna that reflect the region's rich biodiversity.
According to Incredible India's official page, Chitkul is deeply committed to sustainability. Locals actively engage in reforestation, plant native trees to protect biodiversity, and promote organic farming with minimal pesticide use. Plastic is shunned, and eco-friendly alternatives are encouraged to protect the pristine environment.
For adventurers, Chitkul is a gateway to challenges and rewards. The Kinnaur Kailash Parikrama trek — a sacred circumnavigation of the Kinnaur Kailash mountain — draws spiritual trekkers and mountaineers alike.
Internet reacts
The photo from Chitkul in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur district quickly went viral, drawing a wave of admiration across social media. Many users shared how the striking turquoise river set against snow-covered peaks left a lasting impression during their visits. Others commented on how, while technology can mimic the look of nature, it can't capture its essence. Across the board, viewers agreed that pictures alone fall short of conveying the real-life serenity and breathtaking beauty of Chitkul.

Maharashtra government sanctions funds to acquire rovers for land survey
MUMBAI : The Maharashtra government on Wednesday approved a Rs 1,732 crore plan to modernize land survey operations and strengthen the infrastructure of the revenue and land records departments. As part of the plan, Rs 132 crore will be allocated for the purchase of 1,200 advanced rovers for speedy land measurement under the e-Survey 2.0 project . Additionally, Rs 1,600 crore has been sanctioned for new office buildings and residential quarters for revenue officials, said a statement issued by revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule's office. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar at the state secretariat. Bawankule, who proposed the upgradation, said the new rovers would significantly accelerate land survey operations. The government intends to procure 4,000 rovers and the first batch of 1,200 will be acquired immediately. The rovers will help deliver digital 'C' copies of land maps to citizens in a timely manner, the statement said. Bawankule also highlighted the need for high-performance vehicles for district collectors, deputy collectors and tehsildars, especially to aid in effective action against sand mafias. He also recommended that land records offices be located close to collectorates to streamline operations. Pawar approved Rs 1,500 crore for new revenue offices and an additional Rs 100 crore for land records department facilities. He also directed that the procurement process for rovers begin immediately. With the implementation of e-Survey 2.0 across Maharashtra, land survey maps ('C' copies) are now being provided to citizens in a digital form. The addition of 1,200 rovers in the first phase will help boost the pace and accuracy of this work, the release said. Instructions were also issued to complete the pending Registration Bhavan project in Pune within the current month, it said.

e-Aadhaar App Launch: You Can Soon Update Name, Address, Mobile Number In Just One Click
A major highlight of the new app will be the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Face ID technology to provide secure, remote access to Aadhaar services In a major digital push, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is working on a new mobile application, tentatively titled 'e-Aadhaar', that will allow citizens to update key personal information such as name, address, date of birth, and mobile number directly from their smartphones. The app, still in development, is being designed as an all-in-one platform to simplify the often cumbersome Aadhaar update process. According to sources within UIDAI, the upcoming app is expected to drastically reduce the need for physical visits to Aadhaar enrollment centres for routine updates. Instead, users will be able to make most changes remotely, through a user-friendly interface, thus eliminating long queues, paperwork, and delays. Only biometric updates, such as fingerprint and iris authentication, will continue to require in-person verification at designated centres from November 2025 onwards. A major highlight of the new app will be the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Face ID technology to provide secure, remote access to Aadhaar services. This digital identification method is expected to offer both convenience and strong protection against identity fraud. The app will also tap into government-verified databases to automatically retrieve supporting documents. This means that data from sources such as the PAN database, passport office, driving licence registry, PDS ration card system, and MNREGA records could be used to cross-verify user-submitted details. Utility bills, such as electricity statements, may also be accepted for verifying residential addresses. The move is part of a broader effort by UIDAI and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to streamline Aadhaar-linked services and make them more accessible. Recently, the government launched the 'Aadhaar Good Governance Portal', a platform aimed at expediting Aadhaar verification requests while enhancing transparency and operational efficiency. With over 130 crore Aadhaar holders in India, the new mobile application is expected to be a game changer, especially for those living in remote areas or with limited access to Aadhaar centres. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
