Boil water advisory issued for part of Longueuil after water main break

A water main break has forced a boil water advisory on Thursday morning for the Bord-de-l'Eau Est sector in Longueuil's Vieux-Longueuil borough. The breakage requires 'urgent work,' according to the city's website. People living in the area are asked to boil their water for at least one minute before consuming it. Additionally, a second water main break has caused Jacques-Cartier Boulevard Est to be closed in both directions between Jean-Paul-Vincent Boulevard and du Tremblay Road for an undetermined period of time. People are being asked to avoid the area. To find out if your home is in the affected sector, you can type in your address on this map or call 311. The boil water advisory is slated to remain in effect for at least 24 hours. An update on the situation is expected Thursday night.

Heat, air quality warnings in place across the Maritimes

Thursday is set to be a hot and humid day across Prince Edward Island and most of Nova Scotia. Smoke from wildfires in the region is also reducing air quality in some areas. Nova Scotia Heat warnings are in place across parts of mainland Nova Scotia and Cape Breton. Environment Canada says maximum daytime temperatures will reach 30 degrees, though the humidex will make it feel near 36. Conditions are expected to moderate Thursday night as a cold front passes through. Meanwhile, an air quality statement is in place for Annapolis County as well as for Halifax Metro and Halifax County West. Smoke from the wildfires near West Dalhousie and Susies Lake is reducing air quality in the area and places downwind. The statements say local smoke concentrations will vary with small changes to the wind. New Brunswick Air quality statements are also in place in southeast New Brunswick as well as the Miramichi area due to the Irishtown and Oldfield Road fires. Environment Canada says smoke from the wildfires is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility. Light southwesterly winds are also expected. Prince Edward Island Heat warnings are in effect across P.E.I., where temperatures will reach around 30 degrees and the humidex will be near 35. There are no air quality statements in place on the island.

Water main break shuts down boulevard in Longueuil, Que., unclear when it reopens

Social Sharing Police on Montreal's South Shore say a major watermain break has forced the closure of Jacques-Cartier Boulevard East in Longueuil for an "indefinite period." In a message posted to Facebook just before 5 a.m., police say the boulevard is closed for what is about a 400-metre stretch between du Tremblay Road and Jean-Paul-Vincent Boulevard. It's unclear how much damage this break has caused. The perimeter would also prevent people in that area from accessing Curé-Poirier Boulevard East.
