Pirates sending 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes to Reds for reliever Rogers, prospect Stafura, AP source says
The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because the trade was not official.
The swap gives the Reds an elite defender at the hot corner with a manageable contract. The 28-year-old Hayes, a Gold Glove winner in 2023, has five-plus years left on the extension he signed with Pittsburgh in 2022 and will make $7 million in 2026 and 2027, $8 million in 2028 and 2029 before rising to $12 million in 2030.
Hayes, the son of former major leaguer Charlie Hayes and a first-round draft pick by the Pirates in 2015, has struggled to find consistency at the plate since his splashy debut during the final month of the COVID-19-shortened season in 2020. He hit .376 with five homers in 24 games immediately after being called up, numbers that he didn't come close to matching while playing a full 162-game schedule.
Hayes is hitting .236 with two home runs and 36 RBIs this season for the Pirates, who sit in last place in the NL Central thanks largely to an offense that ranks near the bottom or at the bottom in the majors in most significant statistical categories.
The Pirates have several internal option to replace Hayes in the short-term, including Jared Triolo, who won a Gold Glove as a utility infielder in 2024.
Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Pittsburgh's everyday shortstop this season, moved over to third for the Pirates' series-finale against San Francisco on Thursday.
Rogers remains an effective left-handed option out of the bullpen at 34. The 10-year veteran, an All-Star with Minnesota in 2021, is 2-2 with a 2.45 ERA in 40 appearances with the Reds this season.
Stafura, 20, was a second-round pick by Cincinnati in 2023. He is hitting .262 with four home runs and 48 RBIs in 88 games with Class A Daytona this season.

Rory McIlroy is missing the PGA Tour postseason opener and its not a surprise
Memphis (USA), Aug 5 (AP) Rory McIlroy was hot and tired when he finished the FedEx St. Jude Championship last year. He was No. 3 in the FedEx Cup. He beat only one player at the TPC Southwind and tied for 68th, finishing 26 shots behind. He dropped all the way to No. 5. 'I'm not even sure why I'm playing," McIlroy said with a chuckle. So it comes as no surprise that McIlroy has decided to sit out the start of the PGA Tour postseason, a move he has telegraphed for a year. It adds to a peculiar season of scheduling for McIlroy, who was intent on cutting back. He already missed two signature events at Hilton Head and Memorial (he also missed The Sentry at Kapalua, which he has played only once because he starts his year on the European Tour). But he added the RBC Canadian Open a week after the Memorial and the week before the U.S. Open. He also chose to defend his title with Shane Lowry at the Zurich Classic. Not much should be read into McIlroy — he's No. 2 behind Scottie Scheffler — sitting out the FedEx Cup playoffs opener for only the third time. Tiger Woods skipped the opener in 2007 and went on to win the FedEx Cup. Woods played The Barclays in 2009, only to realize during the pro-am that Wednesday that even if he had won all three playoff events, he still was not assured winning the FedEx Cup (he won, anyway). But given the heat in Memphis in early August, it would not be surprising if more top players chose to sit this one out. There is a $5 million bonus for whoever is leading the FedEx Cup after the second playoff event at the BMW Championship. Then again, McIlroy already is playing tournaments overseas in the fall in India and Australia. In these times, $5 million isn't much of a carrot. Masters hospitality Augusta National already has the state-of-the-art Berckmans Place right off the fifth fairway for high-end Masters patrons. It also as 'Map and Flag," another hospitality option across from Washington Road. Sports Business Journal reviewed a brochure for the 'Official Masters Hospitality" program that takes it to a level unlike any other. According to the brochure, the program offers a 'host home" from $45,000 to more than $100,000 for the week. It also offers private transportation up to $15,000, which includes a weekly driver and either an SUV or a sprinter van. SBJ also reports a 'Full Scale, Private Home Program" as a sample that runs $219,600 for the week. It's for eight guests and three waves of packages to the golf course. The amenities include two homes (a host home for $60,000 and a sleeper home for $38,000), which includes daily cleaning and fresh linens, transportation ($29,000), pantry stocking ($6,000), a full-time staff member ($13,000), catering ($23,500), tee times at area golf courses ($13,500) and a 20% service fee ($36,600). Nelly toppled Nelly Korda headed to the Paris Olympics last summer at No. 1 in the world. Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand was at No. 15, two players seemingly headed in different directions. A year later, Thitikul is back to No. 1 in the world, largely because of Korda failing to win this year and having nine finishes out of the top 10. Dating to the Olympics, Thitikul won three times, was runner-up four times and had 16 top 20s in 23 tournaments worldwide. Korda won The Annika in Florida toward the end of last season. She had three runner-up finishes — two of them at majors — but she finished in the top 10 in only nine of her 18 starts. She had one stretch where she finished out of the top 10 in seven out of nine tournaments. Korda had been at No. 1 for 71 weeks, the fourth-longest streak since the women's world ranking began in 2006. Thitikul was previously No. 1 for all of two weeks in the fall of 2022. Thitikul and Ai Miyazato are the only women at No. 1 to have never won a major. On the bubble Xander Schauffele is assured of making his 70th consecutive cut in the FedEx St. Jude Championship, the start of the PGA Tour postseason which has no 36-hole cut. But there's another streak on the line. Schauffele has been slow to hit his stride since missing two months at the start of the year with a rib injury. He goes into the postseason at No. 42 in the FedEx Cup. Schauffele has reached the Tour Championship eight consecutive years dating to his rookie season in 2017. That's tied with Tony Finau for the longest active streak getting to East Lake. Finau has an even greater sense of urgency. He starts the FedEx Cup playoffs at No. 62. Only the top 50 advance to the BMW Championship, and the top 30 reach the Tour Championship. LPGA major award Minjee Lee is a winner for the second time of the Rolex Annika Major Award, given to the major champion who has the best record among the LPGA's five majors. Points are awarded only to top 10s, so Lee effectively won by one position. She won the KPMG Women's PGA and tied for third in the Evian Championship. Mao Saigo won the Chevron Championship and tied for fourth in the U.S. Women's Open. Miyu Yamashita won the AIG Women's British Open and tied for sixth in the Women's PGA. Lee and Yamashita were the only major champions to make the cut in every major. By combined score, Lee was at 19-under par, while Yamashita was at 8 under. Christian Wilkins was released from Las Vegas Raiders for kissing teammate on head On July 28, a source told Adam Schefter that Christian Wilkins was released by the Las Vegas Raiders for kissing a fellow team player on the head. The teammate took offense and complained to the human resources department. The department investigated the incident. Raiders head coach Pete Carroll did not want to comment on it– 'I have no comment to make. We made a decision on what we're doing, and we're moving with it.' Get some therapy. Somebody out there in this world will hear you out.' Apart from this incident, another reason for Wilkins' departure was that he was recovering from a Jones fracture–a broken bone on the pinky toe side of the foot. Stuart Broad refuses to pick between Joe Root, Shubman Gill at first, but final decision leaves Jos Buttler shellshocked
Legendary paceman Stuart Broad has picked his combined playing XI from the recently concluded five-Test series between India and England, in which he snubbed the highest run-getter Shubman Gill. Broad, who was commentating during the series, had a ringside view of the action, allowing him to closely follow the fiercely contested battles that unfolded across all 25 days. The series ended in a 2-2 draw on the final day of the fifth Test, with Mohammed Siraj uprooting Gus Atkinson's off-stump to help India claim a 6-run win at the Oval. It was a series dominated by the batters with 21 centuries scored in it, but in the end, it was the bowlers who had the final say, with Siraj being the standout of all. Shubman Gill and Joe Root were the top-two run getters in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.(AP) Broad's blended lineup, which he picked on 'For The Love of Cricket' podcast during a chat with Jos Buttler, showcased the players who made decisive impacts on matches. He didn't pick any of the English openers in the XI and went ahead with the Indian pair of KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Duckett played a crucial role in England Headingley's triumph, scoring a century during the big chase. However, after that, his performance dipped a bit as he failed to convert the starts into big scores. Meanwhile, the Indian pair displayed solid consistency throughout the series, especially KL Rahul, who scored 532 runs and filled the big shoes of Rohit Sharma at the top of the order. The English players acquired the next four spots in Broad's lineup: Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Ben Stokes. Pope got the edge over Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair despite scoring just 306 runs. The Indian batters in contention failed to show any consistency and were also in and out of side. Meanwhile, Shubman Gill, who scored 754 runs and was named Player of the Series, was the big omission from the XI. Broad picked Root over him, which also surprised Buttler. When Buttler asked the English pace great to pick between Buttler and Gill, he said, 'Ohh piss off, you want me to choose between Root and Gill, I can see the headlines now. Shubman Gill has just scored the most runs as a Test captain behind Don Bradman in a series, and Joe Root has gone second on the all-time list, scoring 3 centuries back to back and scored his 39th Test ton.' Also Read | Shubman Gill proves he is the right man to lead India, but questions linger over who has the final say in Playing XI Buttler insisted Broad to make the call, and then the former pacer said, "Well, only because I've got Joe Root's mobile number and don't want the abuse, so I'm gonna go Joe Root." The former English captain was shocked by Broad's pick and replied, 'Unbelievable. I can't believe that.' Rishabh Pant, despite suffering a fracture during the Manchester Test, was preferred over Jamie Smith, whose promising start to the series was followed by a lack of consistency. His struggles outside off-stump were exposed by the Indian batters at the Oval. No Ravindra Jadeja in Broad's XI Another big omission from Broad's XI was Ravindra Jadeja, who was not chosen in his XI, despite the senior all-rounder scoring 516 runs, including five fifties and a century, as Broad felt he was not up to the mark with the ball. However, he did pick Washington Sundar on his side. Completing the lineup, Broad opted for a fearsome fast-bowling trio. Jofra Archer adds raw pace and adaptability, Mohammed Siraj brings relentless energy and aggression, while Jasprit Bumrah stands out with his unmatched control and swing. Stuart Broad's combined XI from India vs England series: Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes, Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Jofra Archer, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah
