Aam Aadmi Party protests poor road construction in Kolhapur

Time of India26-07-2025
Kolhapur:
Aam Aadmi Party
staged a protest on Saturday at the Shahu Khasbag Maidan bus stop to condemn the poor quality of road construction by a private contractor appointed by the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC).
The project was funded with Rs 100.3 crore under the Maharashtra Rajya Suvarna Jayanti Nagarutthan Yojana scheme.
AAP workers, holding a cutout of a premium SUV recently purchased by a city MLA, alleged that almost all roads in the city have deteriorated due to potholes, making them motorable only by premium SUVs.
Sandip Desai, AAP's state secretary, said, "If the city MLA approved a fund of Rs 100 crore for road works, then it is also his job to ensure the quality of the works.
He travels in luxury cars, so he does not understand the plight of two-wheeler riders, rickshaw pullers, and ordinary Kolhapur residents."
Despite the substandard work, officials have paid the contractor a bill of Rs 22 crore. Desai added, "The officials, contractors, consultants, subcontractors, and public representatives are responsible for these poor roads. Even though the deadline passed, these works have not been completed yet."

Meanwhile, Uttam Patil, AAP's city president, said, "The road is in poor condition due to not doing the gutter channel work before the road construction, not using the sensor machine, and the responsible officer not being available at the site for actual inspection at the time of works. The contractor and consultant appointed are responsible for using the right material, taking measurements of the road, getting the work done as per the design, and coordinating the necessary tests to maintain the quality.
Nothing has been followed."
AAP office-bearers present included Abhijit Kamble, Suraj Surve, Sameer Latif, Dushyant Mane, Usha Vader, Vijay Hegde, Rakesh Gaikwad, Sanjay Nalvade, Umesh Vader, Lakhan Kazi, Ranjit Patil, Swapnil Kale, Baban Bhalerao, Amarsinh Dalvi, Aditya Powar, Prakash Harne, Ramesh Koli, etc.

Delhi Chief Minister On Air Quality Dipping To 74 For The First Time In A Decade

New Delhi: Citing the latest Air Quality Index of 74, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to reduce the city's pollution, and claimed that for the first time in a decade, the index has come down to such a satisfactory level. Inaugurating a "Jan Seva Kendra" in the Greater Kailash Assembly constituency, the Chief Minister said, "Apart from cleaning the air, we are also committed to cleaning the Yamuna and ending the mountains of garbage." She said her government, after taking note of the public concerns over the proposed ban on end-of-life (EOL) vehicles, approached the court and got a stay on the ban till November 1. "Going forward, bringing the public's voice to every platform, addressing their needs and demands, is our responsibility. As this is not the same government that only made hollow promises. Today's government is genuinely working to reduce Delhi's pollution," she said. CM Gupta said she aspires to make the city so beautiful and habitable that people are not forced to shift out of here. Calling her government's decision to allow commercial establishments to operate 24x7 historic, the CM said, "The licensing process is also going to be simplified and replaced with a single-window system." The CM slammed the earlier AAP government and legislators, saying, "Earlier, MLAs remained confined to their offices and homes. But each MLA of the BJP is now working tirelessly for the public." At an earlier event, she said the government is aiming to ensure that the bed per 1,000 patient ratio should improve to 5 from the current level of around 2.7. CM Gupta also announced her government's plans to introduce a PPP model for purchasing medical equipment in hospitals and complete the development of the 24 hospitals whose construction was suspended midway by the previous government. Later, taking to the social media platform X, the CM said, "Today, the Jan Seva Kendra was inaugurated in the Greater Kailash Assembly constituency and dedicated to public service." "This centre will serve as an effective medium for resolving the problems of the common people, providing information about the schemes of the Central and State Governments, and delivering prompt assistance to those in need, in line with the commitment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to service and good governance," she wrote. "The BJP's double-engine government is committed to ensuring that development, service, and rights reach the last person in line in a time-bound manner," she wrote.

Shivraj Chouhan echoes PM's call, urges citizens to use indigenous products

Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday once again echoed the Prime Minister's appeal by urging citizens to purchase products made within the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Saturday, during the disbursement of the 20th instalment of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi in Varanasi, urged the nation to buy indigenous products. Reaffirming the government's commitment to strengthening the economy, the Union Agriculture Minister reiterated the Prime Minister's appeal today: "Dear sisters and brothers--nieces and nephews, everyone lives for themselves--insects, birds, and animals. But what's the point of living only for oneself? We must live for our country. Living for the nation is what the Honourable Prime Minister taught us yesterday. He appealed to us to buy only those products for our homes that are made in our own country." "Dear sisters and brothers, whether something is made in your village, in a nearby city, in your district, in your state, or anywhere in our country, buy only those things. The Indian economy is growing rapidly. Today, we are ranked fourth in the world, and very soon, we will reach the third position. And this nation of 1.44 billion people is a huge market. If we resolve to buy and use only things made in our country, then our farmers, our small-scale producers, self-help groups, and local artisans- everyone will see their income increase. And when their earnings grow, our economy will become stronger. Why should our money go abroad? Let it provide livelihoods to our own children. I will live for my country, and you too should live for the means, buy only products that are Made in India. Thank you!" Earlier, he said that the welfare of farmers is a top priority of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Addressing the gathering of farmers, officials and dignitaries in Patna, Agriculture Minister Chouhan said that with the help of the Direct Benefit Transfer scheme, the government is ensuring that the assistance reaches directly into the accounts of the farmers. Highlighting the measures for farmers' welfare, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chouhan said that with the help of DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), the government is ensuring that the assistance reaches directly into the accounts of the farmers. He said, "Earlier, farmers used to get only a few pennies of Rs 1 sent by the government, but now they receive the whole amount without any leakage.

MNF accuses ‘secret plot' by Mizoram CM to shift capital

1 2 Aizawl: CM Lalduhoma chaired a high-level meeting in June that discussed a master plan to transform Thenzawl, the second-largest town in his Serchhip constituency, into a Peace City. An official statement said the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs had already agreed to allocate Rs 10 crore to the Mizoram govt for preparing the master plan, of which Rs 1 crore (10 per cent) has already been released. Opposition parties trained guns on the CM, saying the latter has a hidden agenda behind the proposal. The Mizo National Front (MNF), Mizoram's main opposition party, has accused the CM of secretly attempting to shift the state capital from Aizawl to Thenzawl, located in his own constituency, without public consultation. MNF general secretary Zodinpuia claimed that while Lalduhoma publicly framed the initiative as a Peace City project to decongest Aizawl, he allegedly concealed his actual intention of making Thenzawl the new state capital. "This is a betrayal of the people's trust," he said, demanding that the CM clarify his position. The chief minister's office has not issued any response to the MNF's allegations.
