Skoda has designed this concept to pay tribute to its 1899 motorbike
Yep, Skoda started out making bicycles and motorbikes, but don't expect this café racer to make production

Skoda has decided that it needs to highlight some of its 'remarkable back catalogue of classics' by reimagining them as concept cars for the modern era.
Given its old reputation, we're not sure we'll be seeing a reborn Estelle all that soon. How do you double the price of a Skoda? Fill it with petrol etc.

Still, this 1899 Slavia B two-wheeler designed and built by Laurin & Klement (the company that would eventually become Skoda Auto) is certainly worth paying tribute to. The new concept is pretty cool too.
Penned by French designer Romain Bucaille, who normally works as an exterior designer on Skoda cars, we're told the new Slavia B also follows Skoda's current 'Modern Solid' design language that's a little bit minimalist. Yep, we can see that.
Apparently the remake would be electric, with the area once inhabited by a combustion engine now left as an open space. There's also a floating seat and a brown leather tool bag, with the whole thing designed as a sort of futuristic café racer.
Reckon Skoda should put something like this into production? That'd be a proper tribute to one of its classics…

UK car production falls to its lowest level in 73 years (if you don't count lockdown)

Business SMMT figures show historical low for making cars in Blighty Skip 1 photos in the image carousel and continue reading How's business? Last month spelled some pretty rubbish news for UK vehicle production, with April's numbers flagging by a chunky 15.8 per cent. That's the lowest level since 1952, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) figures – at least if you don't count lockdown. And why would you? That first pandemic measure pretty much entirely halted production. These – believe it or not – are more usual times, and yet 59,203 units (down from 70,319 in 2024) does not a pretty penny make. 'Government has recognised automotive manufacturing's critical role in driving the UK economy, having successfully negotiated improved trading conditions for the sector with the US, EU and India in the space of a month. Norris tops first practice at Spanish Grand Prix

McLaren's Lando Norris headed Red Bull's Max Verstappen in first practice at the Spanish Grand winner in Monaco five days ago, was 0.367 seconds quicker than Verstappen as teams come to terms with new front wings forced upon them by a rule change for this Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc were third and who trails team-mate Oscar Piastri by three points in the championship, was 0.576secs quicker than the Australian in this first Bulls' Liam Lawson was sixth fastest, ahead of the Haas of Briton Oliver Bearman, Racing Bulls' Isack Hadjar, Red Bull's Yuki Tsunoda and Alpine's Pierre George Russell was 11th, ahead of the Aston Martin's Lance Stroll and Fernando Alonso. The Spanish veteran was among the pacesetters early on, but dropped back as the session developed and appeared to have a problem with the performance of his engine, judging by radio transmissions between the Spaniard and his engineer. Alonso, who retired in Monaco last Sunday with an engine failure, ended his session about five minutes early as a main talking point of the weekend so far is the new front-wing flexibility test introduced by governing body the FIA, aimed at reducing the amount teams can use flexing wings to control aerodynamic Bull, the prime force behind persuading the FIA to introduce the test, and Ferrari have hopes that the tougher restrictions will boost their competitive hopes. McLaren believe it will have next to no effect on relative have long used front wing flexibility to boost speed on the straights, while retaining downforce in the corners. The idea is that the wing 'backs off' on the straight to reduce drag, before moving back into its maximum downforce-producing position for the under this generation of cars the phenomenon has proved useful in tuning the cars between high and low-speed cornering generations of cars introduced with new rules in 2022, which focus on underbody downforce produced by so-called Venturi tunnels, have proved prone to low-speed understeer - a lack of front grip - and high-speed oversteer - too much front making the front wings become less effective at higher speeds, teams can reduce this nervousness in quick corners without making the cars too hard to drive at low and Mercedes are widely perceived to have been the pioneers of this particular approach, but it remains to be seen whether the tougher tests will have any will be hard to tell at this track for sure, as its combination of medium and high-speed corners should relatively suit Red Bull. It is a circuit with similar characteristics to Suzuka, Jeddah and Imola, where Verstappen was competitive, compared to circuits with a lower average cornering speeds, such as Miami, Monaco and Bahrain.

New single-motor Skoda Enyaq SportLine 85 goes the distance with 356-mile range

After launching initially with only a dual-motor layout, Skoda has added single-motor power to the Enyaq's SportLine trim with prices starting from £47,260. Available to order from 12 June, the Enyaq SportLine 85 also comes in Coupé form, which ups the price to £49,160 – meaning the single-motor SportLine 85 comes in at £1,500 cheaper than the dual-motor SportLine 85x. Advertisement - Article continues below The single-motor version features the same 77kWh battery, so range has been improved. While it can't quite match the regular Enyaq Edition 85's 359-mile and 365-mile range figures (for SUV and Coupé), the SportLine 85 goes further than the 85x, with 354 miles for the SUV and 356 miles for the sleeker Coupé. Power comes from the same electric motor found elsewhere in the Enyaq single-motor range – a rear-mounted unit with 282bhp and 545Nm of torque (the same total bhp output you get in the dual-motor). The SportLine 85 completes 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds, which is exactly the same as the dual-motor – as is the 111mph top speed. Charging speeds stay the same as other 77kWh Enyaqs, with a 135kW rate enabling a 10-80 per cent top-up in around 28 minutes. Despite the cost saving over the 85x, the SportLine 85 gets the same equipment as standard. This includes 20-inch alloy wheels, SportLine bumpers front and rear and gloss black exterior accents. There's also sports suspension that lowers the Enyaq by 15mm at the front and 10mm at the rear plus 'progressive dynamic steering' taken from the range-topping vRS. Inside, you'll find a head-up display, front sport seats, a sports steering wheel and an upgraded sound system from Skoda's audio partner Canton. Want the latest car news in your inbox?
