'They may know more about the murder': Raja Raghuvanshi's kin demand narco test on Sonam, Raj Kushwaha, say duo's behaviour raises doubts
NEW DELHI: The investigation into Raja Raghuvanshi's murder has taken an unexpected direction as his family raises concerns about the testimonies of his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her alleged co-conspirators.
According to Meghalaya Police's findings, Sonam and four others were responsible for Raja's death. In response, residents of Indore organised a candlelight vigil, seeking justice and a thorough investigation.
Raja's brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, requested a narco test for the accused, citing suspicious behaviour during questioning. "The way Sonam and Raj are misleading the police is shocking. Once a narco test is done, it will be revealed how much Sonam is lying about it.
How all the accused are lying indicates that they may know more about the murder."
He further added, "I cannot talk to Sonam's parents yet. Why haven't they made any statements through the media? For instance, Raj claims Sonam has been tying Rakhi to Govind and him for three years. Doesn't her mother know this? Police need to question her parents. Why have you all hidden this from the media and police?"
Another brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, who led the candlelight vigil in Indore, expressed the family's sorrow and determination to seek justice.
"To get justice for Raja, I will go anywhere in the world... This candle march is organised so that Raja's soul may attain peace..."
Meghalaya BJP President Rikman G Momin addressed the situation, defending the state's reputation. "The blame has already been placed on our state, so those who are blaming have to come and apologise to our state. Meghalaya is a safe and tourist-friendly state... Everyone can come to Meghalaya, and we receive everyone as our brothers and sisters.
There is no difference; everyone is Indian, and we are Indians. We will work together.
.. I salute the Meghalaya police for cracking this case..."
The Meghalaya government plans to strengthen the Meghalaya Resident Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) to enhance protection for residents and tourists. Minister Alexander Laloo Hek informed ANI about the cabinet's decision to implement tourist registration and install CCTV cameras at tourist locations, hotels, homestays, and lodges.
Regarding the Scooty rental query, the minister stated, "For now, we don't know whether it's illegal or not, but it is being said that they have hired the Scooty from Shillong only."
On Friday, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh commended the state police for their effective investigation, which resulted in apprehending five suspects, including Sonam Raghuvanshi.

'Kiraye ke Tattu': Union Minister shrugs off pro-Khalistani protests in Canada ahead of PM Modi's visit
Amidst demonstrations and calls for protests by Khalistani supporters and sympathizers during G7 Summit in Canada, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday brushed them aside as unwarranted and unjust and said that such deplorable acts deserve no attention. Speaking to the press, while attending a programme on 100 days of the Delhi government, the Union Minister said, 'Yeh Kiraye ke Tattu hain (they are hired agents). There is no need to take them seriously.' When questioned on reports of Sikh children being used in protests in Canada ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the G7 Summit, he said that these groups were previously aided and abetted by foreign funding, but now that their support has been cut off, they are resorting to such tactics. He added that such politically motivated acts should not be taken seriously. He further pointed out, 'There is another video that is going viral, which shows that people who get funding from a neighbouring country (Pakistan) turned up against them (Pakistan) when they didn't receive the funds.' Notably, a group of protesters with Khalistani banners on Canada streets, were seen in viral videos on Sunday, raising voice against PM Modi's visit to the North American country, where he will attend the G7 summit in Kananaskis. According to reports, children were also seen in the demonstrations, sparking strong condemnation and denunciation from the BJP leaders. Maninderjeet Singh Bitta, President of the All India Anti-Terrorist Front, warned against such provocative actions, "Those who are throwing stones at the Prime Minister's photo and burning his effigy, those days are gone. The fear you once tried to create is over. The Prime Minister went straight to the place where you used to ignite hate. Do whatever you want — he is standing before you. This stone-pelting, insulting the national flag — all of this has lost its impact now." BJP spokesperson and prominent Sikh leader R. P. Singh said, "I don't think the children are being brainwashed. Those children probably don't even know whose picture they are acting against. Maybe they also don't realise what PM Modi has done for this country, for Punjab, and for the Sikhs." Notably, the ties between India and Canada have remained frosty and strained for past few months, with latter, under Trudeau administration, holding India responsible for the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023 on its soil. However, the invitation from Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to PM Modi enraged the pro-Khalistani outfits and leaders, who pledged to hold protests to lodge their voice.

Caste census, OBC politics, PM Modi's global recognition in Cyprus shape BJP's political narrative
Hours after the Union government on Monday issued a notification for conducting India's 16th census with caste enumeration in 2027, Union Minister Bhupender Yadav claimed, "The Congress has always betrayed and deceived the OBC community." Addressing media personnel in New Delhi, the Union Minister while taking a jibe at the grand old party said, "If the Congress was ever sincere about OBC welfare, they would have acted on the Kaka Kalelkar Commission report", referencing the first Backward Classes commission set up in 1953. Yadav emphasised that the Congress, even after returning to power, did not implement the Mandal Commission's recommendations. "It was only after the Congress lost power that the Janata Party formed the Mandal Commission. Even after the Janata Party's exit, Congress, while still in power, did not implement the Mandal Commission report. It was only after Congress was out of the picture that the Mandal Commission was implemented. Ironically, in Parliament, it was Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi who went on record opposing it", he added. Meanwhile, on the international front, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded Cyprus' highest civilian honour, the 'Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III,' by President Nikos Christodoulides. This recognition marks the 23rd international award conferred upon PM Modi, highlighting his global appeal and India's rising influence under his leadership. "This prestigious honour reflects the Prime Minister's global leadership and contributions to India's growing stature on the international stage. It is a moment of pride for all of us, as this marks the 23rd such international recognition for him", said Yadav. Similarly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated the Prime Minister via social media platform X, saying, 'This reflects the continuously rising stature of India on the global stage." To further underline Prime Minister Modi's international image, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya shared a graphic on X titled '23 Global Honours Celebrated by 140 Crore Indians: India's Unstoppable Global Ascent.' The graphic, now widely circulated on social media, lists all 23 international awards received by PM Modi — from Kuwait, France, Greece, Egypt, and Russia to Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Mauritius, Afghanistan and Palestine.

'Fighting Indian state' remark: Court to hear case against LoP Rahul Gandhi on Jul 18
A local court on Monday set July 18 to hear a case against Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi over his contentious remarks on "fighting the Indian state itself". Additional District Judge (ADJ-II) Aarti Faujdar set July 18 as the next hearing owing to the absence of Gandhi's lawyer and his junior requested for the next date, petitioner's counsel Sachin Gupta said. He said they sought a direction from the court to ensure Gandhi's presence in court. During the inauguration of the Congress' new headquarters in Delhi on January 15, Gandhi alleged that the BJP and the RSS had captured every institution of the country and said, "We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS and the Indian State itself." Petitioner Simran Gupta, from an outfit called Hindu Shakti Dal , said, "On January 15, Leader of Opposition (in the Lok Sabha ) Gandhi, during the inauguration of the Congress' new headquarters in Delhi, had said that 'our fight is not only with the RSS and the BJP but also with India state." Live Events This comment demonstrates disrespect towards the citizens and democracy of the country, the petitioner said. "Rahul Gandhi's statement deeply hurt the sentiments of people across the country. I had earlier approached the District Magistrate and the SP in Sambhal, but no action was taken. As a result, I filed a case on January 23 in court." The court had previously asked Gandhi to appear on April 4 and later extended the date to May 7 for submission of his response. In the last hearing in May, when Gandhi's counsel was absent, a junior lawyer sought adjournment, which the court allowed and posted the matter on June 16.
