CBC6 hours ago

Quebec provincial police are searching for a missing 3 year-old girl who was last seen near Newman Avenue in Montreal's Lasalle borough on Sunday around 11:00 a.m.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) say Claire Belle was reported missing around 3:30 p.m. in Côteau-du-Lac, just under an hour's drive west from the borough.
In a post to X, the SQ says a person who claimed to be responsible for Belle went into a business on Chemin St-Emmanuel saying she "had lost the child and does not know where she is."
Officers have set up command posts in both Lasalle and Côteau-du-Lac. They're also searching for Belle in Ontario.
SQ spokesperson Jean-Raphaël Drolet says her disappearance does not meet the requirement for an Amber Alert to be issued, but that they are treating the case seriously.
Belle is three feet tall, weighs 35 pounds and has brown eyes and brown hair.

Sask. RCMP searching rivers, riverbanks in Battlefords region for woman missing since 2018

The Saskatchewan RCMP says residents in the Battlefords region can expect to see an increased police presence this week as an investigation continues into the 2018 disappearance of Ashley Morin. Morin, was 31 when she was last seen in July of 2018 in North Battleford and police believe she was the victim of a homicide. A news release says that officers with Saskatchewan RCMP's Underwater Recovery Team, Historical Case Unit, the Battlefords RCMP Detachment and Saskatchewan RCMP Search and Rescue will be conducting searches of rivers and riverbanks in the area throughout the week. 'Searching the river is another step in our investigation to find out what happened to Ashley and hold the person, or persons, who took Ashley away from her family accountable,' Supt. Josh Graham, officer in charge of Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Branch said in the release. 'The Battlefords is a small, tight-knit community. We know people have information about Ashley's disappearance, and we want to encourage them to report it to police – even the smallest detail could make a difference,' Graham said. No charges have ever been laid regarding Morin's disappearance. Anyone with information is encouraged to call RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.

Child sex charges stayed against Manitoba First Nation chief

Lake St. Martin First Nation Chief Christopher Traverse walks through the lobby of the Supreme Court of Canada in Ottawa on Monday, Oct. 23, 2023. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Sean Kilpatrick Content Warning: This story contains graphic imagery and descriptions. Reader discretion is advised. WINNIPEG — Crown prosecutors have stayed child sex charges against the chief of a Manitoba First Nation. The provincial court says charges of sexual assault, sexual interference and possessing and making child pornography were stayed Friday against Christopher Traverse. Traverse was the leader of Lake St. Martin First Nation in the Interlake region when he was arrested in April 2024. He was accused of forcing an eight-year-old girl into a bathroom in his home, taking photos or her and sexually assaulting her in December 2023. Traverse pleaded not guilty to the charges and maintained his innocence during his trial, which started in March. The Crown's office says in an email that based on new information presented at the trial, it was determined it was no longer appropriate to proceed with the case. Witnesses sought after driver going more than 180km/h veers off road in King: police

A York Regional Police patch is shown in Aurora, Ont. on Dec. 19, 2022. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Arlyn McAdorey Police are searching for witnesses after the driver of a vehicle, allegedly going more than three times the posted speed limit, veered off a road in the Township of King. York Regional Police say they attended the area of Dufferin Street, north of Davis Drive, at around 5:30 p.m. on June 2, after hearing a white sedan had left the road and came to a stop in 'thick brush.' Officers say the driver, who was the sole occupant, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say no other vehicles were involved. Investigators determined the vehicle, heading south on Dufferin, was exceeding speeds of 180km/h in a posted 60 km/h zone before the collision occurred. Police are continuing to investigate the crash and are appealing to witnesses who may have seen the vehicle beforehand or have footage that may have captured the vehicle in the area around the time of the incident. Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
