M&S' £40 beach dress 'so pretty' you could 'wear it out at night' too
Shoppers have praised the 'flattering' fit of this summer dress with a 'bohemian look and airy feel'
Marks and Spencer shoppers are loving a "stylish" holiday dress they say is "perfect" for days out by the beach or even dressing up in the evening. Dozens of women have claimed this knitted dress has a "flattering style" and is made with "superb quality."
The store recently relaunched virtual shopping following a major cyber attack that forced the company to switch off online orders. Between April 25 and June 9, M&S was not able to take any orders through its website or app.
One item shoppers are back to loving and ordering online is this £39.50 Cotton Blend Knitted Round Neck Midi Dress. M&S said that its knit texture and design give it a "bohemian look and airy feel".
The website adds: "It's designed in a flattering slim fit, with a round neck and a stylish sleeveless shape. The skirt ends at a graceful midi length and is finished with a contrasting ruffled hem."
Shoppers may be interested in similar-style crochet dresses like the Love and Roses Neutral Crochet Midi Dress on Next (£59). Or, New Look's Black Crochet Square Neck Maxi Beach Dress (currently 25% off at £24.74).
But M&S shoppers love the ivory-coloured dress with black detailing, which is available in sizes XS to XL. Based on almost 120 customer reviews, shoppers say the fit is "true to size."
One said: "Absolutely love this dress, the style, fit and material. Bought as a beach dress but would definitely wear it out at night." Another added: "Really lovely dress fits snugly but without feeling tight or showing any lumps or bumps."
A third wrote: "A versatile dress that can be dressed up or down. So comfortable with a flattering style and superb quality." Someone else shared: "This is the perfect dress for my upcoming holiday. The material is of a lovely quality and a flattering cut. It looks great with a pair of wedges."
There were a few critics, although the dress received no rating lower than two stars. The only poor review claimed the dress felt "shapeless," adding: "Great quality dress and very pretty—but too much material around the middle, the waist needs nipping in slightly."
More women wanted to love the dress, giving it three-star reviews, but claimed it was "just too long" for them. However, the overwhelming response was positive.
A fifth put in their review: "Great summer dress, lovely fabric, had seen similar on Mint Velvet for four times the price. Like the cotton mix stretch fabric, not too clingy. Very pleased with purchase." And, someone else posted: "Lovely little wardrobe piece. It is easy to pop on and you're ready to go. Looks great and will take you anywhere - day or night."

Our fashion editors reveal what they'll be wearing to Royal Ascot – including F&F at Tesco and Zara
IF you're heading to Ascot this year, you don't have long left to find something to wear. And although there's plenty of occasionwear out there, it can be difficult to find something that is both appropriate and stylish. Plus, you don't need to spend a fortune - there are lots of gorgeous and affordable options on the high street, if you know where to look. Our fashion editors have done the searching for you, and picked out their favourite pieces that won't break the bank, plus you'll be able to wear them numerous times throughout the summer. Abby McHale, 30, Deputy Fashion Editor I love any excuse to get dressed up, and the races certainly ticks the occasionwear box. If you think you have to spend a fortune on a posh outfit, then think again. The high street has really upped its game this year - supermarkets included. Can you believe this polka dot co-ord is from F&F at Tesco? I love the skirt and top combination, as it's a slightly different take on a classic dress option. I've added a pop of colour with this red headband from Karen Millen and kept the rest of my accessories neutral, with a pearl bag, black heels and gold jewellery. Plus, once I've worn this to the races, I can mix and match the pieces to create even more outfits. Tracey Lea Sayer, 53, Fashion Director Hat, £85 to hire, Camilla Rose - HIRE NOW Trousers, £140, Mint Velvet - BUY NOW Bag, £100, Mango - BUY NOW Sandals, £45.99, Stradivarius - BUY NOW I go into a panic whenever I get asked to attend a formal occasion! I don't look great in dresses or hats, so I have to be really specific about what I wear. But I do love a suit, so opting for a two-piece always takes the pressure off a bit. This soft pink, elegant suit from Mint Velvet feels dressy and special, but I know I will be really comfortable - and I'll still feel like me! As for the hat, I hired one this year and am hoping it suits me when it arrives. I do know I need a hat with height, so fingers crossed this Camilla Rose one will look the part in the royal enclosure. Clemmie Fieldsend, 34, Fashion Editor 4 This year, I'm swapping my frock for a jacket and skirt look inspired by Christian Dior. I've been lucky enough to go to Royal Ascot a handful of times, but I feel overwhelmed by all the dresses on the high street and can't find one that's right for me. So this year, I've built a look that doubles for Dior's iconic 'New Look' outfit that changed fashion history in 1950. I've gone for this beautiful jacket from Aligne that's actually part of the bridal range, and paired it with a statement full skirt from Reserved. Phase Eight has lots of fantastic headgear for races and weddings, so if you're looking for something that will make you stand out, definitely take a look. I've gone for classic black court shoes and a Dior bag dupe from Fiorelli, and I'm all set. Emily Regan, 25, Fashion Assistant 4 Choosing an outfit for the races is always a challenge, especially with the unpredictable weather and strict dress codes. For Ascot, it can be hard to find something stylish that's also appropriate, but I recently spotted this Zara co-ord that ticks all the boxes. The boucle cardigan looks luxe, covers everything it needs to, and comes with a bandeau top underneath, so I can wear the buttons undone if the temperature rises. I'm really into combo skirts right now - they're all over the high street and work especially well if you're petite, like me, giving the illusion of longer legs. For shoes, these River Island heels are so comfortable, especially for long days, come in loads of colours, and the closed toe means no emergency pedicures! I'm not usually a fan of hats, but this raffia number from John Lewis & Partners feels like a polished take on a sun hat, so it's perfect. Why the high street still rules! Fabulous' Fashion Director, Tracey Lea Sayer shares her thoughts. I WAS 10 when I first discovered the utter joy of high-street shopping for clothes with my mum and nan. Going into town on Saturday became a family tradition – a girls' day out we would look forward to all week. My mum's favourite shop was M&S, where she would gaze at jackets with big shoulder pads and floral sundresses, while my nan would make a beeline for John Lewis and their classic coats and elegant court shoes. I was all over Tammy Girl – Etam's little sister – and Chelsea Girl, which was later rebranded to high-street fave River Island. I would spend hours in the changing rooms, watched keenly by my two cheerleaders, who gave the thumbs up – or thumbs down – on what I was trying on. Frilly ra-ra skirts, duster coats, polka dot leggings, puff balls, boob tubes… I tried them all, often making my nan howl with laughter. Fashion wasn't so fast back in the 1980s and every item was cherished and worn until it fell apart – literally – at the seams. At 18, I went to art college and my tastes became more refined. Extra cash from a part-time job in a bar meant I could move on to slightly more expensive stores, like Warehouse, Miss Selfridge and the mecca that was Topshop. I knew at this point I wanted to work in fashion because the high street had totally seduced me. One day, I wrote an article for a competition in a glossy mag about my love of retail therapy and my favourite LBD – and I won! That led me to where I am today – Fashion Director of Fabulous. It's not just me that loves the high street – big-name designers are fans, too. When Cool Britannia hit in the '90s, they all turned up in one big store. Designers at Debenhams was a stroke of genius by Debenhams CEO Belinda Earl, designer Ben de Lisi and fashion director Spencer Hawken, who introduced diffusion ranges from John Rocha, Matthew Williamson and Betty Jackson, to name a few. This meant we could all afford a bit of luxury and wear a well-known designer's signature style. Years later, I hosted a night with Debenhams and Fabulous for 250 readers, who were in awe meeting all the designers. It was a real career highlight for me. In 2004, H&M started rolling out their international designer collabs. Karl Lagerfeld was first, followed by Roberto Cavalli, Marni, Stella McCartney, Maison Martin Margiela, Sonia Rykiel, Comme des Garçons, Balmain, Versace and many, many more. I could barely contain myself! Then in 2007, Kate Moss launched her first collection with Topshop, with thousands queuing along London's Oxford Street. I remember sitting behind Ms Moss and Topshop boss Philip Green at a London Fashion Week Topshop Unique catwalk show. I had my three-year-old daughter, Frankie, in tow and we both made the news the next day after we were papped behind Kate, my supermodel girl crush. At the time, the high street was on fire. Who needed designer buys when Mango stocked tin foil trousers just like the designer Isabel Marant ones and you could buy a bit of Barbara Hulanicki's legendary brand Biba from Topshop? High street stores even started to storm London Fashion week. Although Topshop Unique had shown collections since 2001, in 2013 River Island showed its first collection in collaboration with global superstar Rihanna, who was flown in by a friend of mine on a private jet. KER-CHING! A whole new generation of high profile high street collabs followed. Beyoncé created Ivy Park with Topshop's Philip Green and I even flew to LA for Fabulous to shoot the Kardashian sisters in their bodycon 'Kollection' for Dorothy Perkins. I am pleased to say they were the absolute dream cover stars. Fast forward to 2024 and while the high street doesn't look exactly like it did pre-Covid, it has made a gallant comeback. Stores like M&S, Reserved and Zara, and designer collabs like Victoria Beckham X Mango and Rochelle Humes for Next are giving me all the feels. The supermarkets have really come into their own, too, smashing it with gorgeous collections that look expensive, but at prices that still allow us to afford the weekly shop. The last 30 years of high street fashion have been one big adventure for me. Bring on the next 30!

Simple M&S wedding guest dress that's less than £50 had my friends shocked over where it's from
Simple M&S wedding guest dress that's less than £50 had my friends shocked over where it's from Fashion writer Eve Rowlands wore a simple black dress to a wedding recently and, with its bubble hem, elegant high neck and open back, friends couldn't believe it was from Marks and Spencer Fashion writer Eve Rowlands wore the M&S dress to a recent wedding and received many compliments For those who are at that age where it seems everyone they know is getting married, we're in the thick of wedding season. Personally, I have eight this year, and so naturally, in a bid to find one or two new dresses (to wear on rotation), I found myself scouring the shops for the ideal wedding guest dress. Now this dress had to be versatile enough for numerous occasions, yet sleek enough for a wedding, and comfortable during the warmer months, all while maintaining an air of sophistication. And on a recent visit to my local M&S (Culverhouse Cross), I stumbled upon a dress that, despite its simplicity, took my breath away - and is less than £50. This black number was a somewhat last-minute buy for my third wedding of the season, but it proved to be a wise choice as it garnered plenty of compliments - and my friends were gobsmacked to learn it was from M&S. Priced at £49.50, the Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress is a classic and simple - yet effective - design. One that may seem unremarkable on the hanger, it truly comes to life when worn. Read more: Debenhams cuts price of luxury watch by 91% just in time for Father's Day Read more: Woman loses four stone and keeps weight off for five years without giving up ice cream Although it might not be as vibrant as your typical spring wedding guest dress, this colour block version of the classic LBD is always a safe bet. Its bold hue is striking, and its high neckline and drop-waist design allow for a plethora of accessory options. However, its silhouette, which has a hint of volume at the bottom, is the real showstopper, in my view, reports Chronicle Live. The gathered skirt features a bubble hem at the bottom, adding a delightful fullness and significant swish. An added perk is the concealed pockets - a practical feature for touching up my lippy throughout the day. Moreover, the pockets are cleverly hidden within the skirt's volume, ensuring they don't look bulky (unless overfilled...). Shop the look £49.50 Marks and Spencer Buy Now on Marks and Spencer Product Description The Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress by Marks and Spencer is made from pure cotton and comes in petite, regular and tall lengths. The dress's bodice is fitted and sleeveless, and it gracefully contours the stomach area, giving a smooth and flattering finish (covering up any lumps and bumps along the way). It also incorporates darts for a structured shape and added support. The rear of the dress features a gorgeous cut-out detail, adding style while providing ample ventilation during hot weather. Crucially, the opening finishes just above the bra-line, meaning I could wear a bra without the straps being visible. Available in three different lengths, the dress accommodates a variety of body shapes and sizes, ranging from size 6 to 24. However, one tip is that it tends to run slightly small - a fact I discovered alongside other shoppers - so opting for a larger size may be a bit more comfortable. The Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress costs £49.50 from Marks & Spencer (Image: Marks and Spencer ) Once I discovered my perfect size, I can vouch for its performance: it's comfortable while dancing, eating, sitting and strutting around all day. The dress also includes a lining which ensures it hangs well and feels comfortable due to its 100% cotton composition without allowing dreaded overheating. This breathable fabric proved particularly effective in warm weather, keeping me cool and dry. I recently donned this stunning dress to a black tie event, complementing it with bold red accessories like pointed court shoes and a charming red rose adorned £15 handbag from Amazon among other items. The dress was a hit. But with the right pieces, it also lends itself well to a more relaxed vibe, perfectly paired with my adored Blaire Dr Martens sandals and a denim jacket for casual days out. For those who are fond of bubble skirts yet prefer something with more of a relaxed feel, the Albaray Black Puffball Dress, retailing at £89, is has a comfy scoop neckline and ribbed jersey on the upper half. Another great option is the Nancy Bubble Hem Midi Dress by Nobody's Child, currently a bargain at £59.50 in the sale, down from the usual price tag of £85. As for the M&S dress, I'm not the only one who fell head over heels for it. With a 4.2-star rating from 19 reviews, it's been well received amongst fashion fans. One person wrote: "Couldn't resist this dress despite having to try on several sizes before finding the best fit (it's on the small side). The design quality becomes apparent once on with a drop waist, great if you are tall and long in the body, and the bubble hem. It's also nicely lined, and the cut-out back still enables you to wear a bra. Please continue to provide such design quality, please, M&S." Someone else raved: "Absolutely love this dress! Super cool look. Love it!!" A third remarked: "I honestly felt beautiful in it as it really flattered my figure. It's a modest yet elegantly casual dress I feel I could wear both casually and formally." Another echoed: "Stunning dress with a beautiful skirt shape and flattering bodice. Fresh summer weight cotton." Article continues below The main gripe amongst shoppers was the sizing issue, but once sized up, for many it was the perfect fit. The Pure Cotton Bubble Hem Midaxi Dress can be found in Marks and Spencer for £49.50.

MARKS & SPENCER is finally back in action, and fashion fans have been rushing to pick up the retailer's new £35 summer dress. The textured midi dress (which comes in the colour of the season) has been praised by shoppers for its flattering fit that "hides lumps and bumps". M&S Textured V-Neck Midi Column Dress, £35 Featuring a fitted silhouette with breathable textured material and airy short sleeves, the butter yellow number is perfect for summer. It comes in butter yellow and black colourways, with regular, petite and tall sizes available — although several sizes have already sold out. The wearable style could be dressed up or down for most occasions, and it would look great teamed with sandals and sunglasses for a comfortable holiday outfit. As the textured design gives a dressy feel, it would also pair well with heels and chunky gold jewellery for a summer evening look. The high-street dress has received rave reviews from Marks & Spencer shoppers, with a 4.6-out-of-5 star rating. One customer wrote: "Excellent dress that skims the body to create a slimming effect. The textured material is good quality and it washes well, no ironing required as it always looks as good as new. It's true to size as well, more colours and styles please." Another added: "I purchased the yellow colour in store, and liked it that much that I ordered the black when it came back in stock as it's so flattering. M&S Textured V-Neck Midi Column Dress, £35 It's so curve enhancing and it's not too short, plus no lumps and bumps are shown. The material is thin but soft, and it isn't see through. It's so great for summer." Marks & Spencer gave an update earlier on its cyber attack this week, confirming that the retailer is accepting orders again for the first time since the attack in April. Shoppers are now able to order online again, but the retailer has warned that deliveries may take up to 10 days. If you don't know where to begin with your online order, Fashion Editor Abby McHale has handpicked the M&S pieces worth adding to your basket before they sell out. M&S' £35 midi dress isn't the only butter yellow piece causing a stir, as Sainsbury's shoppers have been racing to pick up a similar version from the supermarket. The £28 summer dress has been praised for hiding mum tum, with its relaxed cut and flattering puffed sleeves. It also has a stylish gingham print that's perfect for summer.
