OCONTO COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Oconto County are issuing a reminder to drivers about Wisconsin's Move Over Law, emphasizing the importance of safety when emergency vehicles are present.
In a recent social media post, Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban outlined key points of the law, which requires drivers to move over or slow down when approaching stopped emergency or service vehicles with flashing lights.
Wisconsin sees 22% increase from 5-year average with nearly 900 bicycle crashes in 2024
'If you are driving in the opposite direction on a divided highway, you are not required to pull over,' Skarban clarified. For those approaching emergency vehicles directly, the sheriff broke down proper driver behavior:
Pull to the right: Move as far to the right edge of the road as possible.
Stop: Come to a complete stop until the emergency vehicle has passed.
Safe speed: If you cannot pull over, slow down as much as safely possible.
Stay alert: Be aware of sirens and flashing lights, and keep your radio volume at a level where sirens can be heard.
Follow instructions: Obey any directions given over a loudspeaker.
In intersections: Clear the intersection before pulling over.

Sheriff Skarban also reiterated that the Move Over Law is designed to create a safety buffer for first responders and roadside workers.
'Please be mindful of your surroundings and drive safely,' said Skarban.

A new Kwik Trip coming to Green Bay on West Mason, construction underway

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – Motorists traveling on West Mason Street may notice some construction happening between Oneida Street and 12th Avenue. It was confirmed that a new Kwik Trip store will occupy the lot in the 1000 block of West Mason Street. Kwik Trip tells Local 5 that construction started on May 26 and the tentative completion date is October 24. The completion date is weather dependent, Kwik Trip said. Noah's Ark Waterpark in Wisconsin Dells opens this weekend Officials say the store will have a carwash attached to it, and it will be a Gen 3 store. This means it will have roughly 9,100 square feet and have a 'modern look'. There is only one other store in the Green Bay area that is a Gen 3 store. The Kwik Trip on 2499 South Point Road in Ashwaubenon is the other Gen 3 store. The location used to be home to a complex with local businesses. . (WFRV) – With Memorial Day weekend on the horizon and plenty of people ready to go out and about to celebrate the holiday, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is urging ATV/UTV riders to follow safe practices. According to a release, 40 people died in ATV/UTV crashes statewide in 2024, most of whom were not wearing helmets. Appleton Police Department partnering with Herrling Clark Law Firm to giveaway bike helmets All occupants, including an ATV or UTV operator, should wear a helmet approved by the Department of Transportation. Seatbelts should also be worn if available, specifically in a UTV. 'We know that speed and reckless operation are among the top contributing factors to crashes each year,' Lieutenant Jacob Holsclaw, DNR off-highway vehicle administrator, said.
