‘It might just save your life': Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources urges ATV/UTV riders to be safe over Memorial Day weekend
(WFRV) – With Memorial Day weekend on the horizon and plenty of people ready to go out and about to celebrate the holiday, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is urging ATV/UTV riders to follow safe practices.
According to a release, 40 people died in ATV/UTV crashes statewide in 2024, most of whom were not wearing helmets.

All occupants, including an ATV or UTV operator, should wear a helmet approved by the Department of Transportation. Seatbelts should also be worn if available, specifically in a UTV.
'We know that speed and reckless operation are among the top contributing factors to crashes each year,' Lieutenant Jacob Holsclaw, DNR off-highway vehicle administrator, said. 'Those crashes could be prevented with responsible operation and education.'

As with any vehicle, residents are urged to be fully sober while operating an ATV or UTV. Additionally, it is crucial to travel in known areas, follow signs and let somebody not riding with you know where you are going and when you expect to be back.

Dallas Murder Suspect Caught After Jeep Found Burned
Dallas Police have arrested the suspect in a murder that took place during Memorial Day weekend. The Dallas Police Department arrested 22-year-old Terrance Lowe on June 3, 'in connection with' the killing of 22-year-old Davion NeRay Clines, according to a press release. Lowe is charged with murder. The Dallas Police Fugitive Unit arrested Lowe, and he is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail. According to jail records, Lowe was booked on June 3 just past 10:30 p.m. His bond is set at zero, and he faces a single murder charge. Dallas police responded to 1922 Berkley Ave on the evening of May 24, as The Dallas Express reported at the time. When they arrived, they found an 'unconscious male victim in the alley, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.' While Dallas Fire-Rescue responded, the victim – who turned out to be Clines – died. His death was ruled a 'homicide.' Clines reportedly met Lowe close to 5 p.m. in a parking lot for a marijuana deal, according to Fox 4. Clines allegedly got into a Jeep Renegade with Lowe, and the vehicle 'sped out of the parking lot with Clines still inside.' Police reportedly thought Clines was kidnapped. Lowe's girlfriend called and reported the Jeep stolen soon after the possible kidnapping, Fox 4 reported. Police found the vehicle near 2400 Budd Street that day after 11:30 p.m., with its license plates removed – and after it had been set on fire. There was allegedly 'visible blood' inside the car where Clines was believed to have gotten in. While Clines and Lowe reportedly met 'just before 5 p.m.,' the Dallas County Medical Examiner listed the victim's time of death as 4:10 p.m., as The Dallas Express previously reported. The Dallas Express asked the Dallas Police for comment, but Lt. Tramese Jones said the press release included 'all the available information.'

The crypto bros at the center of a twisted kidnapping case allegedly hosted wild sex parties with the help of an apparent madam at the posh New York City townhouse where they are accused of torturing an Italian Bitcoin millionaire, sources told The Post. The so-called madam, who has not been named publicly, is suspected of recruiting girls from a popular SoHo boutique to party with William Duplessie, 32, and John Woeltz, 37, at the ritzy Prince Street pad, according to the sources. Footage published by TMZ Thursday apparently showed the recruits inside the lavish digs with the alleged victim, Michael Valentino Teofrasto Carturan, at some point during his three weeks allegedly being held hostage. Vallejo police make arrest in deadly triple shooting at homeless encampment
A man suspected in a triple shooting that killed two people at a homeless encampment in Vallejo over Memorial Day weekend was arrested in San Francisco, police said. With the help of U.S. Marshals, police arrested 45-year-old Eddie Charles Sample during an operation Wednesday at a location on Cravath Street on Treasure Island. Sample was taken into custody without incident. Police said Sample is connected to a shooting that took place at an encampment near Sacramento Street and Daniels Avenue on May 26. According to officers, three adult males were found with gunshot wounds around 5:30 p.m. Officers rendered medical aid to the victims until medical personnel arrived. Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the third victim was taken to a hospital with a life-threatening injury. Police did not release the identities of the victims. Following the shooting, investigators identified Sample as the suspect. On May 30, detectives obtained an arrest warrant and requested assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service in locating him, citing public safety concerns. "The Vallejo Police Department will continue to direct every available resource toward holding violent offenders accountable and protecting our community. I want to thank the U.S. Marshals Service and our officers for their coordinated efforts and swift action in safely apprehending the suspect responsible for this senseless act of violence," Chief Jason Ta said in a statement Thursday morning. Sample was booked into the Solano County Jail on suspicion of murder. Jail records show he is being held without bail, with a court appearance scheduled for Friday afternoon.
