NEW DELHI: Ashok Leyland shares saw a sharp 51% drop on Wednesday, falling from Rs 250.85 to Rs 123.95, potentially causing concern amongst investors.
However, the decline is not due to a market crash but a technical adjustment following the company's 1:1 bonus share issue that took effect the same day, ET reported.
The stock began trading ex-bonus on July 16, after the company announced one bonus share for every existing share, effectively doubling the share count while keeping the overall value of investor holdings unchanged.
July 16 was established as the record date for the bonus issue, ensuring that investors holding shares at Tuesday's market close would qualify for the additional shares.
The shares, which had settled at Rs 250.85 on Tuesday, July 15, initiated trading at Rs 123.95 on Wednesday morning, reflecting a 50.6% reduction aligned with the bonus adjustment.
"This is further to our intimation dated July 7, 2025, informing the Shareholders approval for issue of Bonus Shares in the ratio of 1:1 i.e. 1 (One) new fully paid-up Equity Shares of Rs 1/- each for every 1 (One) existing fully paid-up Equity Share of the Company," the company said in an exchange filing.
Despite the recent drop in Ashok Leyland's share price, investors haven't lost any value. Their total investment remains unchanged, as the number of shares they hold will double once the bonus shares are credited.
However, the bonus shares are scheduled to be credited to demat accounts on Thursday, July 17, with trading expected to begin on Friday, July 18.
"We wish to inform that the Allotment Committee has fixed Wednesday, July 16, 2025, as the record date for determining the eligible shareholders for allotment of Bonus Shares. Further, in accordance with Sebi circular dated September 16, 2024, the deemed date of allotment of Bonus Shares shall be Thursday, July 17, 2025, and these Bonus Shares will be made available for trading on the next working day of allotment i.e.
Friday, July 18, 2025," the company said.
As of March 2025, Ashok Leyland had 14.2 lakh retail investors, those holding up to Rs 2 lakh in share capital, who together owned 9.38% of the company. The bonus shares will be distributed to all shareholders who maintained their holdings as of July 16.

Developers write to govt for uniformity in registration fee

Ahmedabad: The city may be witnessing a rise in redevelopment deals, but developers feel discrepancies in the registration process are leading to project delays. The Urban Redevelopment Housing Society Welfare Association has written to the state govt stating that many sub-registrar offices charge 1% of the development agreement value based on jantri rates as registration fee, while in others, registrations are carried out for a flat Rs 100 charge. Also saying that unnecessary documents are demanded at the time of registration, it has demanded a uniform registration process across the state. Association president Jitendra Shah said, "Ahmedabad has huge potential for redevelopment projects. Currently, more than 600 societies are in various stages of discussion with developers. So far, over 150 redevelopment projects have been completed in the city, and the number is growing steadily. This year, around 100 societies have finalised deals. People are now trusting the redevelopment model because they have seen successful examples. However, there are complexities concerning stamp duty and registration fees." He said, "When a society finalises a deal with a developer, a development agreement is required, on which a 3.5% stamp duty is charged. However, when it comes to registration fee, several sub-registrar offices ask for 1% when it should be a flat Rs 100. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 75% off installation and replacement for LeafFilter LeafFilter Gutter Protection Get Rates Undo Such discrepancy creates unnecessary financial burden on developers. Also, a registration charge is being unfairly levied for additional floor space index. Furthermore, documents like maps and builder records are demanded by registration officers, which delays the process. However, there is confusion about the registration charges for the development agreement and FSI. In different projects, we see different charges. Uniformity is needed." A significant number of redevelopment deals are happening in areas like Navrangpura, Naranpura, Paldi, Vasna, Memnagar, Vastrapur and Vadaj. The association wrote, "We demand that there should be clarity about stamp duty, registration fees and processes in the state through a circular, and a clear process should be conveyed to the registrars for smooth registration." Traders face losses after basement market floods in Greater Noida West society

Noida: Traders in the basement market of a Greater Noida West society suffered heavy losses due to waterlogging and water entering the shops after morning showers on Tuesday. This was the third such instance in the past 10 days. Dinesh Sharma, who owns a grocery shop in the Panchsheel Hynish society market, told TOI that the water receded by Wednesday morning, but all shop owners in the market lost goods worth lakhs of rupees. All perishable items like bread, milk, eggs, biscuits, etc., had to be thrown away. Even pulses, grains, and flour had to be disposed of as they decomposed in the 2 to 3-foot waterlogged shops. As a result, the problem recurs if there are heavy showers. The first such flooding occurred on July 30, the second on Aug 9, and the third on Aug 12, the last two within three days," said Dinesh, who suffered immediate losses of about Rs 2-3 lakhs. Sanjeev Sharma, who works in one of three general stores owned by one owner, assessed the loss to be about Rs 15 lakhs. He said that the compressors of the refrigerators in the three shops were destroyed in the waterlogging. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Treatment That Might Help You Against Back Pain! These include grocery stores, salons, medical shops, including a Jan Aushidhi shop, beauty parlours, and more. Traders maintained that while four pumps were deployed by the society maintenance to pump out water from morning till 7 pm, they were not enough as the pumps were of low 1 hp capacity each. While the market resumed its daily activity on Wednesday, traders remain worried lest another spell of showers lead to further damage. However, AOA secretary of the society, Vijay Rastogi, told TOI that all necessary actions have been taken to ensure no further flooding. "There is a drain that runs parallel to the service lane of the society. It is at a mere 20m distance from the market. It flooded and overflowed, drowning the service lane and the market area during the recent showers. Though we deployed pumps, the process took time as the water had to be released through the overflowing drain," he said. Shilpa Shetty, hubby booked for cheating bizman of 60 crore in investment deal

Mumbai: Actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra, her businessman husband Raj Kundra , and an unknown person were booked by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for allegedly cheating a Mumbai-based businessman of Rs 60.48 crore in connection with a loan-cum-investment deal involving their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd. The offence was registered at Juhu police station against Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra under IPC sections of cheating and forgery. Since the amount involved is more than Rs 10 crore, the case was transferred to the EOW. The FIR follows a preliminary enquiry by the EOW into a complaint filed by Deepak Kothari. Kothari (60), a Juhu resident and director of Lotus Capital Financial Services, an NBFC. The complaint was filed through advocates Dr Yusuf Iqbal and Zain Shroff. Kothari said one Rajesh Arya introduced him to Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty, who were directors of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a home shopping and online retail platform. At the time, the couple reportedly held 87.6% shares in the company. The accused allegedly sought a loan of Rs 75 crore at 12% interest but later persuaded him to route the funds as an "investment" to avoid higher taxation, while assuring monthly returns and repayment of principal. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Argentina: Kitchen Remodeling Trends in 2025 May Surprise You Kitchen Remodeling | Search ads Search Now Undo Kothari claims he transferred Rs 31.95 crore in April 2015 under a share subscription agreement, followed by another Rs 28.53 crore under a supplementary agreement in Sept 2015. Kothari later discovered insolvency proceedings were on against the company in 2017 for defaulting on another agreement. Kothari alleged that repeated attempts to recover his money have failed, with delays cited during the COVID-19 pandemic. Prashant Patil, advocate for Shetty and Kundra, said, "My clients deny all the allegations which are purely civil in nature and have been adjudicated by the NCLT Mumbai on 04/10/2024." Patil said there is no criminality involved and "our auditors have submitted all the necessary supporting documents from time to time, as requested by the EOW, including detailed cash flow statements."
