Lionel Messi Equals 7-Year-Old MLS Record With Nashville Masterclass
Lionel Messi was once again involved with goals for Inter Miami in the MLS. Inter Miami defeated Nashville SC 2-1 at the Chase Stadium with two goals from the Argentine star.
Messi scored a free-kick goal in the first half and then scored one of the easiest goals of his career. The Argentine already reached a milestone in the first half after his free-kick goal in the 17th minute. Messi is climbing the ranking of free-kick goals scored by any football player in history.
This past week, Messi set a record in the MLS when he scored two goals against the New England Revolution on Wednesday. Just a few days later, he overtakes his record he set and makes more MLS history.
Lionel Messi's MLS brace record
With another brace in the MLS, Messi becomes the first player in MLS history to score a brace in five straight games. He became the first player in MLS history to score a brace in four consecutive games against the New England Revolution.
Along with setting that record, Lionel Messi (11 goals in six games) equals former Atlanta United striker Josef Martínez for the most goals in a six-game span in MLS history. The record held by the Venezuelan striker was set in the summer of 2018.
In his last five games, Messi has ten goals for Inter Miami and is now the joint top goalscorer of the MLS along with Nashville SC striker Sam Surridge.
Messi has the second-most goal contributions in the MLS this season with 22, two below San Diego FC's Anders Dreyer. Messi doesn't show signs of slowing down despite being 38 years old and playing three MLS games in a week.

Miami Dolphins for better, for worse? How Zach Sieler and 2025 DL compares to 2024
(Editor's note: This is part of a summer series on the Miami Dolphins. Each entry will break down a specific position group, examining how the 2024 unit performed. what's expected in 2025 and, finally, concluding which group is better, the 2024 version or 2025.) Last year's defensive line Zach Sieler Calais Campbell Benito Jones Da'Shawn Hand Matt Dickerson How they performed Quite well. Sieler was named team MVP, completing a long journey from his days on the waiver wire. Campbell was 38 years old but playing like he was 28, proving he too was a fine pick-up by Miami. They combined for 15 sacks, 25 tackles for loss and 31 quarterback hits. This year's defensive line Sieler Matthew Butler Kenneth Grant (first-round pick) Jordan Phillips (fifth-round pick) Zeek Biggers (seventh-round pick) Jones Alex Huntley Dickerson Ben Stille Outlook Sieler is just hitting his prime and will give the Dolphins all he has both on the field and in the locker room. His leadership will be especially important with Campbell off to Arizona and three rookie draft picks to mentor. Coordinator Anthony Weaver assured that Grant will fulfill his potential based on the work ethic he already has witnessed. Obviously there is no way to judge yet how selecting how Grant and Phillips will or won't pay off for the 2025 Dolphins and whether they can come anywhere close to the high standards set by Sieler/Campbell. If Phillips and Biggers can contribute, a position of serious concern back when it was Sieler and not much else might hold its own after all. Bottom line: Last year's model or this year's? The Dolphins sound like they're going to ride Grant as far as he can take them when it comes to snap count. That's hard on anybody but especially true for defensive linemen playing in our early season heat. As Weaver said, the rookies are bound to have growing pains, but it will be interesting to see their impact in 2025. Last year's model or this years? Last year's. You don't lose a veteran such as Campbell, who played at a Pro Bowl level, and not feel it. Miami Dolphins' secondary gets makeover, remains team's biggest concern entering camp
(Editor's note: This concludes our summer series on the Miami Dolphins. Each entry breaks down a specific position group, examining how the 2024 unit performed. what's expected in 2025 and, finally, concluding which group is better, the 2024 version or 2025.) Perhaps no position group will be under more scrutiny during Dolphins training camp than the secondary. The unit underwent massive changes since the end of the 2024 season and its performance will be a key to how strong the defense will be in 2025. HOPE SPRINS ETERNAL: Dolphins training camp opening: 5 reasons for optimism Last year's defensive backs Kader Kohou Jalen Ramsey Jevon Holland Jordan Poyer Elijah Campbell Ethan Bonner Patrick McMorris Siran Neal Storm Duck Cam Smith Kendall Fuller How they performed The Dolphins were ninth against the pass last season, but as you'll see, the cast of characters is changing considerably. Miami had just 10 interceptions in 2024 and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver has made creating turnovers a priority. Duck was a pleasant surprise – call him 2024's answer to Kader Kohou, who suddenly is among the most experienced players in Miami's secondary. Smith continued to struggle with fitness and playing time. This year's defensive backs Minkah Fitzpatrick Kohou Kendall Sheffield Ashtyn Davis Campbell Artie Burns Smith Ifeatu Melifonwu Bonner Dante Trader Jr. McMorris Jason Marshall Jr. Jordan Colbert John Saunders Jr. Duck Isaiah Johnson Ryan Cooper Jr. B.J. Adams Ethan Robinson Jason Maitre Outlook The Dolphins added Davis, Melifonwu and Burns in free agency. But they lost Holland. Then they traded away Ramsey for a familiar face in Fitzpatrick, which, at least as far as the secondary is concerned, offered a net gain of zero established vets in the defensive backfield. Holland didn't have his best year last season and, although he was a good player for Miami overall, his career didn't hit the high note some expected it to. He hasn't, for example, made a single Pro Bowl. The Dolphins lost experience with Fuller and Poyer gone, but Poyer in particular was disappointing last season. So put it all together and the talent lost should not be overstated. Having said that, where are the replacements or reinforcements? For various reasons, Davis, Melifonwu and Burns made four starts combined for their teams last season. They had two interceptions combined. The No. 1 reason to be concerned about this team is the secondary, and it's not even close. The offense should score points, but can the defense stop people from doing the same? Can the Dolphins really be optimistic facing Josh Allen (twice), Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert and Jayden Daniels with a patchwork secondary? Bottom line: Last year's model or this year's? Last year. Clearly. This article originally appeared on Palm Beach Post: Miami Dolphins 2025 hopes revolve around new faces at defensive back

Miami Dolphins Top 10 players countdown: Edge Bradley Chubb is No. 6
Editor's Note: This is part of a Countdown to Training Camp: Dolphins 2025 series. We'll unveil two players in the Dolphins' top 10 in each of the coming weeks. MIAMI GARDENS — After missing all of last season following knee surgery, Bradley Chubb was asked his level of excitement to return to the field for the Miami Dolphins in 2025. "Ten out of 10," Chubb said with a smile during organized team activities. Chubb has 13.5 sacks in 24 games as a Dolphin. When healthy, he gets to the quarterback and creates turnovers. There's a reason why the Dolphins yielded a first-round pick to the Broncos for the two-time Pro Bowler in 2022. "He loves the game," outside linebackers coach Ryan Crow said. "He wants to be involved and he's been cooking these last couple weeks. He's getting himself ready and certainly he's eager to rock and roll." Why Bradley Chubb is sixth-best Miami Dolphins player Chubb has power and speed and also holds up against the run. Chubb, 28, is a complete outside linebacker. He's just had injury woes. "I'm a warrior, man," Chubb said of what he's learned about himself. "Not even in the sense of football, just in the sense of life. When things came and knocked me down and I had setbacks, in the moment it's like, 'Oh man,' but when you take a step back and really see it for what it is and see what God is trying to tell you in that moment, that helped me out a lot throughout this process." Chubb will be a key team leader on defense this season. Chubb is well-liked by his teammates and delivers consistent effort. The combination of Chubb, Jaelan Phillips and Chop Robinson gives Miami a chance to offset an inexperienced and depleted secondary. Telling stat In 2023, his last healthy season, Chubb led the NFL with six forced fumbles. He has forced 13 fumbles in his career. How we see Bradley Chubb's Dolphins future Chubb took a pay cut this offseason to avoid release. He wants to be in Miami. And certainly Chubb wants to show Miami and the NFL he can stay healthy in 2025. In an ideal world, Chubb bounces back and stays on board for 2026, with the team revisiting his future before the 2027 season, his final under contract with the club.
