It is generally considered better to be appreciated at home first than outside because being valued by those who know you is deeper and more meaningful.
Husband-and-wife music duo Breindy and Matt have been nominated at the International Singer-Songwriters Association (ISSA) in two categories: Single of the Year and Duo of the Year.
'I think it's important to get some recognition at home as this is where we are based, and I'm glad Al Tuster is playlisted on Ukhozi FM; it's important to be grounded and for your music to have some relevance,' singer Breindy Klawansky told The Citizen.
In 2018, she released Ruth Ave, which was nominated for Best Alternative Album at the 2019 South African Music Awards (SAMAs).
The album also received a global music award in 2021. Klawansky sings the original biblical texts in Hebrew.
Klawansky released her debut album Halleluka in 2011 after being signed to Ruth Ave Studios, where her husband Matt is the director. She and Matt are known as the music duo, Breindy and Matt.
The Issa was established in 2018 by US singer Tamanie Dove. Its main purpose is to support, promote, and educate independent artists across all genres worldwide.

Connected worldwide
In 2024, Klawansky was inducted into the Grammy Academy as a voting member of the Recording Academy.
Through membership, one can participate in the Grammy Awards process, including submissions for consideration, propose rule changes to the awards process, and vote for the Grammy Awards.
The singer says since the induction, she has made strong connections with other musicians worldwide.
'I'm connected with a lot of diverse musicians around the world and like to keep up and follow their progress, so that's how I usually hear about all kinds of music competitions and awards,' Klawansky shared.
In late 2024, the duo released a song with Maskandi musician Mbuzeni on the song Al Tuster.
The track brings together the traditions of the two musicians and weaves the Hebrew words of Psalm 27 with Zulu praise.

Hopes of winning
Klawansky says they had to submit their music to Issa during a certain time period to be considered and have a certain amount of music released on major platforms.
'Once nominated, we had to get a certain amount of votes from our fan base to make it to the finalists, and the voting period was held throughout April,' shared Klawansky.
The Issa awards are scheduled for August 23 in Atlanta, Georgia.
'I don't think I'll manage to attend the awards ceremony as I have other commitments, but my goal is to try [to] attend the Grammys if not next year then, please God, the year after.'
When asked which award they'd prefer to win, Klawansky says the Single of the Year is one they're eyeing.
'I'd be grateful for either award but would be super touched and honoured for our song Take Me Back to win for best single of the year,' she said.
'I especially feel drawn to it – we started working on it in 2020, during Covid, when our studio was set up in our corridor, and [I] am proud of Matt's production and the sound and feel we achieved on it.'

US singer Chris Brown granted R120m bail for world tour by UK court

US singer Chris Brown was granted bail by a London court on Wednesday over a charge of serious assault after promising to pay a £5m (R120.9m) security fee, clearing the way for his world tour to begin next month. Brown has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm in what prosecutors said was an 'unprovoked attack' on music producer Abraham Diaw with a tequila bottle in a London nightclub in 2023. The 36-year-old has not yet been asked to enter a plea to the charge. He was not present at Southwark Crown Court when judge Tony Baumgartner granted him bail. The R&B star, a two-time Grammy Award winner known for hits such as Loyal , Run It and Under the Influence , is set to kick off his 'Breezy Bowl XX' tour on June 8 in the Netherlands. Brown was arrested at a hotel in Manchester, northern England last week after returning to Britain for the first time since the incident two years ago. He was initially refused bail on Friday but was granted bail on Wednesday on the condition he pay £4m (R96.7m) with a further £1m (R24.2m) due in seven days. Brown was also required to surrender his passport, except for when he is travelling for his tour. He will next appear at London's Southwark Crown Court on June 20. Reuters

US singer Chris Brown freed on £5 mn bail in UK assault case

LONDON - American R&B singer Chris Brown, former boyfriend of superstar Rihanna, was on Wednesday ordered released on bail in an assault case on condition he pay a £5 million guarantee to a UK court. Under the terms of his bail, the judge said the Grammy-winning Brown, 36, can continue his scheduled international tour which is due to start on June 8 in Amsterdam. If he fails to return to the UK, where he has a series of concerts from June 15, the £5 million will be forfeited. Brown, who was not in court for the bail hearing, is also due to play dates in Europe, including France, as well as the United States in 2025. He was charged last week with "grievous bodily harm with intent" in relation to an assault in which the victim was allegedly struck several times with a bottle before being pursued and punched and kicked. The alleged assault took place at a nightclub in Hanover Square in London on February 19, 2023 while Brown was touring in the UK. Police detained him in the early hours of May 13 at a five-star hotel in the northwestern city of Manchester after he reportedly flew in by private jet. Ordering that he could be freed on bail, judge Tony Baumgartner at Southwark Crown Court in London also stipulated that he should surrender his passport if he is not travelling. He must live at a specific address known to the court and is not permitted to visit the nightclub were the alleged assault took place or contact the alleged victim Abraham Diah. Brown and his co-defendant, US national Omololu Akinlolu, 38, has also been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, will appear again at the same court on June 20. Brown is known for mid-2000s hits such as "Kiss, Kiss", as well as a litany of legal troubles including a felony conviction for assaulting then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009. He rose from a local church choir in Virginia to sudden fame with his rich R&B voice and later rap, but his reputation has been tarnished by the allegations of abuse. He was convicted of having beaten Rihanna before the 2009 Grammy Awards, forcing the pop star to miss the annual gala.
