Liam Gallagher's emotional five-word welcome to Edinburgh crowd at second Murrayfield gig

The Gallaghers have now played two out of three of their Edinburgh reunion gigs. Oasis have now performed two out of three of their reunion gigs in Edinburgh, which kicked off at Murrayfield Stadium on Friday, August 8. And at last night's gig, Saturday, August 9, Liam Gallagher delivered a heart-felt five-word message to the crowd of 70,000. ‌ As the Gallagher brothers kicked off their concert with hit track Hello, Liam soon acknowledged the sea of adoring fans, saying: "We have missed you too" before the Britpop rockers performed Acquiesce to the sold-out stadium. Cheers and applause flooded in from the fans following the emotional remark, reported Edinburgh Live. ‌ Fans were overjoyed to see the formerly feuding brothers come together on stage, even holding hands and giving each other hugs throughout the performance. This run of Edinburgh gigs marks the first time Oasis have played Murrayfield since 2009, when they played the Scots stage just months before their infamous split up that would see them estranged for some 15 years. ‌ And emotions were high all round over the weekend, as Noel Gallagher even shared a sweet moment with a young fan who was holding a sign saying 'Oasis saved me' at Friday's gig. The teenage Oasis devotee was moved to tears after concert-goers helped push her to the front of the crowd. ‌ Jessica, from south west Scotland, had secured a prime spot at the barrier for the show, and her handmade sign caught the attention of Noel and his bandmate Bonehead. The 17-year-old fan revealed the groups' music had 'saved her life' during difficult struggles with her mental health. ‌ Jessica, who never believed she would see Oasis perform live, said she felt like her entire existence had been 'leading up to this moment'. She told the Manchester Evening News: "Oasis is my favourite band and has been for a very long time. When their reunion was announced I was so happy, I got tickets in the presale and started a little countdown to my gig. ‌ "My whole life was building up to me seeing them. "My mam had bought me a little blanket/flag and said I should take it and I decided to paint on it saying how much Oasis means to me and hope I got to a barrier to show them. "I was third row for most of the gig but the people in front of me were so kind and let me to the barrier to hang my sign over it during the encore. I was sobbing - like I had been for most of the gig - and during The Masterplan I saw Noel look over. ‌ "He had to tilt his head because I was very far on his left and there were cameras and speakers in the way and my flag was tilted a bit to the side and difficult to read. "He saw and smiled at it and occasionally looked over through the rest of the songs." Paul Arthurs - Bonehead - also spotted the sign, and later replied to Jessica on X, writing: "I saw your flag too and I'm glad [I] did, you carry on and hold your head high. We're right behind you." Liam Gallagher 'waiting on apology' from Edinburgh City Council in second mid-gig rant

The singer took yet another foul-mouthed swipe at Edinburgh City council during night 2 of their Murrayfield gigs. Oasis have now completed two out of three nights in Edinburgh for their globally famous reunion tour. And last night, August 9, Liam took another swipe at Edinburgh City Council, similar to his Friday night rant. ‌ The tension comes after it was leaked back in June that Edinburgh Council had deemed Oasis fans 'fat drunks'. On Friday, August 8, Liam hit out at the council, calling them 'f***ing s****'- and he came out with similar insults last night. ‌ The Gallagher had said on Friday: "One second, where do I start here with everyone at the city council, the f***ing slags. £1 billion pounds we're bringing to this city over the next three days. £1billion. But you won't see any of it because the Lord Provost will be splitting it between [his] posh ugly f***ing mates." ‌ Last night saw a similar outburst, with the singer declaring that they were bringing even more money to Edinburgh. Liam said: "Two billion pounds we'll have brought into this city over the next few days - two f*****g billion - and you'll see none of it. And they've got the f*****g cheek to slag us lot off." ‌ As Oasis launched into their iconic song Bring It On Down, Liam continued: "Still waiting for our apology... bring it on down!" Back in June, one note from the council's briefing documents showed officials warning that "middle-aged men take up more room, consider this when working out occupancy". ‌ Another detailed "concern about crowds of Oasis on weekends as they are already rowdy and the tone of the band". One document also suggested there would be 'medium to high intoxication' at the concert, and to expect a 'substantial amount of older fans', but added there had been 'minimal arrests' at recent events involving either of the Gallagher brothers. It's safe to say that Oasis didn't take the comments lightly, with Liam saying at the time: "To the Edinburgh council I've heard what you said about Oasis fans and quite frankly your attitude f****** stinks. I'd leave town that day if I was any of you lot.' ‌ In other Oasis news, Noel had an emotional moment during acoustic tune Talk Tonight last night, where audience members noticed him getting teary-eyed. Many fans speculated that the Scottish gigs were especially emotional for Noel, who got divorced from his Scots wife Sara McDonald in 2023. ‌ Noel's divorce from the Scottish music PR is said to have set him back £20m and forced him to give up their luxury £8M Hampshire home. The Gallagher previously opened up about their split on Matt Morgan's Patreon Podcast, where he spoke about adjusting to single life. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! He even described a cheeky gesture he makes when biking in London:"I can get on the bike and go up to King's Cross, and go down to the canal at Longfield Road. "And get on the canal outside my wonderful ex-wife's house and give her a little wave, and go, 'You didn't take this from me'!"

TNT Sports 'pick Gareth Bale as Rio Ferdinand's replacement' after star impressed bosses

Rio Ferdinand announced he was leaving TNT Sports in May after over a decade in the role as he looks to pursue personal projects and Gareth Bale has been lined up as his successor TNT Sports has reportedly agreed a deal with former Tottenham and Real Madrid star Gareth Bale to become one of their main pundits for the season after the departure of Rio Ferdinand. ‌ The broadcaster has been on the lookout for new pundits after Ferdinand announced he would be stepping down from his recurring role in May following ten years in the job. ‌ Ferdinand has been one of their most recognisable faces on TNT during Premier League, Champions League and Europa League matches and has been an ever-present since joining in 2015 under the channel's previous name BT Sport. ‌ The Manchester United legend said he wanted to experience a new chapter and focus on his own YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents, as well as his other business interests. TNT have now made their move in finding Ferdinand's long-term successor by securing five-time Champions League winner Bale as their next big-name pundit, according to the Guardian. Bale will accompany his former Tottenham team-mate Peter Crouch and Chelsea legend Joe Cole as part of TNT's line-up alongside the likes of Ally McCoist, Owen Hargreaves, Michael Owen and Steve McManaman. The former Wales winger has been seen more regularly on TNT in recent months, having been part of the coverage group for the Europa League final between Tottenham and Manchester United. He will be seen on TNT's Premier League and European coverage, with the broadcaster having exclusive rights to the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League this season. ‌ They have also secured a four-year deal to show FA Cup games, though the BBC will still air a total of 14 matches, including two quarter-finals, one semi-final and the final. Ferdinand explained in a statement earlier this summer that he was excited about experiencing new challenges as he revealed his decision to quit TNT. He said: "Since retiring from football it has been a privilege talking about the game I love for a decade for sports fans watching on BT Sports and TNT Sports. ‌ "The network continues to thrive with more rights than ever, and I look forward to following its progress and the exciting future that lies ahead. "As I turn the page to the next chapter. I carry with me countless memories. I'm excited about what the future holds, spending more time with my family, focusing on Rio Ferdinand Presents and my other business interests. I hope to stay connected with all of you in different capacities. Thank you once again for everything." Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
