Nagpur: On the first day of
two-side parking
introduced on the bustling Sitabuldi main road, the street witnessed orderly traffic than most parts of the city. With vendors removed, the street got relief from the chaos it had been witnessing for decades.
Police also managed the crowd and shoppers parked their vehicles at designated locations. On the other hand, the Sitabuldi hawkers are yet to set up their shops on the space allocated to them near Maharajbagh DP Road.
NMC recently removed hawkers from Sitabuldi main road after a sustained crack down. The action was followed by the traffic department, under DCP (traffic) Archit Chandak, issuing a notification allowing parking on both sides of the busy road.
TOI on Monday spotted two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked along the Sitabuldi Main Road, with a vehicle of traffic police and
Nagpur Municipal Corporation
(NMC) stationed at the spot. "I have never seen Sitabuldi so open and orderly. We were able to park our four-wheeler on the road and later went shopping. Earlier, we used to come by taxi or park vehicles in other nearby areas before walking to the Sitabuldi market," said Shruti Patil, who visited a shop with her family members.

The sentiment was echoed by other shoppers too.
Meanwhile, NMC carried out road signage work, marking white lines on the road to provide a clear space for parking. "I could not believe that I was in Sitabuldi. There was no usual disturbance from the hawkers to visit their stalls," said another shopper.
Hawkers opposed to shifting
The Sitabuldi hawkers have refused to shift to the spot allotted near the Maharajbagh DP Road. "No shoppers will come there as it is a highway. In 2009, we had moved to the same location but returned later," said a member of the
hawkers association
.
Meanwhile, a delegation of hawkers from Sitabuldi also presented their grievances to Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday at NMC headquarters. After listening to their concerns, Gadkari clarified that the matter is sub judice and instructed the NMC commissioner to proceed as per legal guidelines.

MBA students get hands-on with AI at TOI-ICBM masterclass

Hyderabad: "AI is not here to replace jobs, but to enhance the way we work. For students, the key is to adapt to these new tools and learn how to use them to grow in their careers," said S Zarar, director of ICBM School of Business Excellence, as more than 200 MBA students participated in a two-day AI masterclass in Hyderabad. Organised by The Times of India in collaboration with ICBM, Attapur, the "AI Essentials for MBAs" programme was held on Aug 18–19 as part of TOI's new campus engagement initiative. The sessions focused on equipping management students with practical, workplace-ready applications of artificial intelligence. Conducted over two days with hands-on exercises, the workshop introduced students to AI-powered tools for business communication, productivity, job search, and marketing. Participants explored how to craft effective prompts, design AI-assisted resumes, experiment with text-to-image and text-to-video generation, and even prototype small AI-powered solutions. "We now know how to use AI not just for academic assignments, but for employability and productivity." Faculty members also attended as observers, noting how AI can be meaningfully integrated into classrooms without replacing critical human judgment. Sessions highlighted themes such as trust calibration with AI outputs, ethical guardrails in design thinking, and the future potential of generative models. Calling the programme a turning point for management education, Ritu Zarar, chairperson of ICBM, said: "An AI workshop is not just about learning technology, it's about unlocking the future. It empowers minds to innovate, solve real-world problems, and shape a smarter world." The masterclass was led by industry trainer and UX mentor Anudeep Ayyagari, who stressed the importance of structured learning. "Students often use AI casually, but with the right approach, prompting techniques, ethical frameworks, and clarity of purpose, it becomes a true productivity partner. That's what this programme aimed to instill," he said. The concluding session saw students generate AI-powered visuals and short videos for mock marketing campaigns, applying concepts from the workshop in real time. "I never imagined I could create a professional-grade poster and video in minutes. This gave me confidence that I can stand out during internships and placements," said Noora Muddasir, another first-year PGDM student. Relief for India as China agrees to lift curbs on rare earth, fertiliser exports

Wang Yi, S Jaishankar NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar's meeting with counterpart Wang Yi saw efforts by both sides to address each other's concerns and interests, with Beijing agreeing to remove curbs on export of fertilisers, rare earth minerals and tunnel boring machines to cater to India's needs. Indian authorities said these were three key concerns raised in the meeting. Both sides also agreed to re-opening border trade through designated trading points, namely Lipulekh, Shipki La and Nathu La. Wang brought up Taiwan and Jaishankar stressed there had been no change in India's position. Like most other countries, India follows a One-China policy. However, as external affairs ministry said, India emphasised that like the rest of the world it has a relationship with Taiwan focused on economic, technology and cultural ties, and this would continue. India was among the first non-socialist countries to recognise People's Republic of China in 1950. While it never abandoned its One China policy, India stopped publicly articulating the same 15 years ago amid growing differences with Beijing on issues related to J&K and Arunachal Pradesh. In the meeting on Monday, Jaishankar for the second time this year raised issues related to trade restrictions imposed by China. He had flagged it last month in a meeting with Wang on the margins of the SCO foreign ministers' meeting. China announced in April its decision to implement export controls on certain rare earth items. According to MEA, govt remained in touch with the Chinese side, in Beijing as well as in Delhi, to bring "predictability in supply chain for trade consistent with international practices". India's rare earth magnet import dependency on China has hovered at 80%-85% in the past three years. India has set up National Critical Mineral Mission to increase domestic capacity and build supply chain resilience in critical minerals. India had earlier also taken up with China the issue of restricted fertiliser supplies. Indian companies had in fact signed long-term agreements with their Saudi counterparts last month for continued supplies of DAP, the fertiliser most used in India after urea. China is one of the countries India has been dependent on for DAP supplies. A foreign ministry spokesperson in Beijing did not confirm if China was going to review export licences or if it was making an exemption for India but said China stood ready to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with relevant countries and jointly keep global industrial and supply chains stable. In his meeting with Jaishankar, Wang had said "in today's world, the changing situation is evolving rapidly, unilateral bullying practices are rampant, and free trade and the international order face severe challenges". Jaishankar too had underlined the imperative of working towards ensuring a stable global economy.

Modi-Mauritius PM meet likely in Kashi on Sept 11

Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to host Mauritius PM Navin Ramgoolam in Varanasi on Sept 11. As per the initial intimation from the Ministry of External Affairs received by the district officials, a bilateral meeting of both the PMs has been also proposed in the city on the same day. Talking to TOI on Tuesday, divisional commissioner S Rajalingam said that as per the initial intimation from the Ministry of External Affairs, a bilateral meeting of PM Narendra Modi and the Mauritius PM has been proposed here on Sept 11. The minutes of the proposed visit of both the PMs have not been received, said the divisional commissioner, who has been appointed the nodal officer for the preparations of the proposed bilateral meeting. He has been also assigned the task to welcome the guests and select the venues. It would be the third occasion when Modi would host the premier of another country in his parliamentary constituency. In Dec 2015, Modi hosted the then Japanese PM, the late Shinzo Abe. The visit of the Japanese PM resulted in the gifting of an international convention centre, Rudraksh, as a symbol of Indo-Japan friendship. Modi hosted French President Emmanuel Macron in the city in March 2018. After inaugurating a solar power plant in Mirzapur, the PM Modi and the French President visited the Deen Dayal Hastkala Sankul to interact with artisans and view a live demonstration of their crafts. Later, they both enjoyed a boat ride from Assi to Dashaswamedh. The officials said that apart from the venue of the proposed bilateral meeting, other places where the guest will visit and events in which he will take part will be finalised soon. The agenda of the bilateral meeting is expected to remain focused on trade and tourism. Before Ramgoolam, his predecessor, Pravind Jugnauth, arrived in the city in Sept 2023.
