Inglis, Priyansh power Punjab Kings past Mumbai Indians into Qualifier 1
A century partnership between Priyansh Arya and Josh Inglis helped Punjab Kings ease to a seven-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in Jaipur on Monday (May 26, 2025), and seal its place in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025.
The duo combined for a 109-run association off 59 balls, putting Kings in control of the 185-run target, which they managed with nine balls to spare. The loss also pushed five-time champion MI into Friday's (May 30, 2025) Eliminator.
MI's new-ball efficacy ensured that the openers Priyansh (62, 35b, 9x4, 2x6) and Prabhsimran Singh did not get off to a flier.
The latter, in particular, failed to connect his attempted lofted shots, eventually falling to Jasprit Bumrah for less than a run-a-ball. Priyansh peppered the cover boundary early on before taking on MI's back-of-a-length approach to provide impetus.
Maiden fifty
Inglis (73, 42b, 9x4, 3x6), at the other end, ensured the side didn't get bogged down by the accuracy of Mitchell Santner, collecting 19 runs off 11 balls against the left-arm spinner on the way to his maiden IPL fifty.
Santner managed to scalp both the half-centurions in his second spell, but the damage was done by then.
Earlier, after being put in to bat, opener Ryan Rickelton gave MI a brisk start. The southpaw lofted over-pitched balls down the ground, and adjusted well to pull Arshdeep Singh's attempted bouncers to the boundary. But MI's attempts to maximise the PowerPlay was cut short when Marco Jansen used the extra bounce he extracts to remove his compatriot.
The team's leading scorer, Suryakumar Yadav, injected some pace with three boundaries off Kyle Jamieson. But Harpreet Brar's removal of Rohit Sharma, courtesy a stunning diving catch by Nehal Wadhera, set the innings backwards again.
The returning V. Vyshak then delivered a frugal opening spell, conceding just eight in his first two, before prising out both Tilak Varma and Will Jacks to help his side take control.
A 44-run stand between Suryakumar, who eclipsed Sachin Tendulkar's record of 618 runs in a season for MI with another half-century, and skipper Hardik Pandya set up what Mumbai hoped would be a grandstand finish.
However, despite a few hits across the fence, Arshdeep's double strike at the death restricted it to 184. Priyansh and Inglis then took over.

Bengaluru Stampede: 5 cops suspended; 2 KSCA officials resign; CM raises compensation to ₹25 Lakh
Bengaluru Stampede: Bengaluru skies lit up with firecrackers on Tuesday, June 3 — as if Diwali had come to the city early — after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched the IPL trophy for the first time in 18 years. Within a day, however, the celebrations spiralled into a tragic stampede killing 11, leading to the suspension of five senior police officers, transfer of one Karnataka government official. As per the latest developments, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has increased the compensation for the families of those who lost their lives in the Chinnaswamy Stadium tragedy to ₹ 25 lakh each from the earlier ₹ 10 lakh per family. Here's what we know so far: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah's political secretary K Govindaraj was suspended, while Hemanth Nimbalkar, Karnataka's Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) was transferred. Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda was among five senior police officers suspended in connection with the incident, three of whom are IPS officers. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru Not just the Karnataka government officials, but RCB heads also bore the brunt of the deadly stampede that injured over 40 others after fans thronged outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday, June 4. On Friday, a city court remanded four individuals — including Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Head of Marketing and Revenue, Nikhil Sosale — to 14 days in judicial custody in connection with the fatal stampede. Apart from transferring officials, the Karnataka government on Saturday ordered a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigation into the stampede case. As part of the investigation, CID officials visited the office of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to gather preliminary information on the matter, ANI reported. As per ESPNCricinfo, top senior officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam, have resigned from their posts, citing "moral responsibility" for the stampede. They submitted the resignations to the president of the board, Raghuram Bhat. The brutal stampede also left its footprints on social media. Following the tragedy, angry netizens, who were once all praise for Virat Kohli, demanded that the cricket icon be put behind bars. At least 11 people were killed in a stampede on June 4, as a tightly packed crowd celebrated the victory of their home cricket team in the Indian city of Bengaluru, the state's chief minister said. Social media users even clashed with each other over #ArrestKohli trending on X, as many users claimed the stampede was because of the organisers' failure.

Bengaluru stampede: How further disaster was thwarted on top tiers of Chinnaswamy Stadium
1 2 Bengaluru: While pain, anguish and trauma unfolded outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium Wednesday, a potential disaster was averted by the skin of the teeth inside the stadium — thanks to the swift response of alert private security personnel and police officers. By 5pm on that fateful day, as it became clear certain stands, particularly Stand 13, were overcrowded, D Bhaskar, the managing director of Supreme Care Services, a private security agency deployed by event partner DNA, could sense trouble. "Stand 13 looked dangerous. People were jumping from the upper tier to the lower level to get a better view," Bhaskar recalled. "Some even used pillars and fences to climb down. It was a crowd unlike what we usually see during IPL matches — much more aggressive and unruly." Bhaskar, drawing on his army training and two years' experience of handling RCB match security, read the situation fast enough to realise it was spiralling out of control. "Several stands were operating at over 120% capacity. Those spectators who stood up were blocking the views of those behind, which led to pushing and jostling," he said. "I feared people could fall off the upper stands straight to the ground." Bhaskar immediately approached a senior police officer at the venue. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Obtén audífonos premium sin pagar absolutamente nada Top Audifonos Undo "I must thank him — he acted without any delay. Five police officers from the VIP area were immediately told to control the situation on the upper stands. They moved to the upper tiers and cleared out those threatening to act dangerously," Bhaskar said. Warnings on loudspeaker Meanwhile, Bhaskar's team comprising former army personnel, used walkie-talkies and loudspeakers to warn the spectators. "We told the crowd that they were under surveillance and strict action would be taken against any unruly conduct, which instilled some fear and helped calm the situation."

Lot Of People Have Criticised...: Mark Boucher Reveals Why Winning WTC Final Is Important For South Africa
Former South Africa cricketer and head coach Mark Boucher believes the Temba Bavuma-led side winning the upcoming World Test Championship final against Australia might well turn out to be the turning point for Test cricket in the country. South Africa will mark their first-ever appearance in a WTC final when they take on Australia at Lord's on June 11. The side had topped the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle points table after winning seven Tests in a row and grabbed the top spot with a 69.44 points percentage. South Africa are currently preparing for the all-important one-off Test by taking on Zimbabwe in a warm-up clash at Arundel. "A lot of people have criticised South Africa, which is not really fair. You play what's in front of you, and with all due respect, the sides that we've played against, we probably should have beaten, and we've done that. So we find ourselves in a final." "But I wouldn't say that it has got the crowds going in our country. Everyone's very excited about it now, as the opportunity arises, a lot of people are going to travel over to London, spend all their Rands, and go watch what should be a good match. If we win it, I think that could be the turnaround for Test cricket in our country," Boucher was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo. The clash at the Lord's is also the second time the men's team will play in an ICC title clash after becoming runners-up in the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup. With the women's team also ending up as runners-up in successive T20 World Cups, Boucher strongly believes the chokers tag will continue to be associated with them till they don't win a major tournament, though that feeling is different in the WTC. "We're playing for a trophy, so I guess a lot of people are saying no [we can't win], but I think it's a different feel in Test match cricket. It's played over a longer period of time, and you've just got to win big moments in the game as well. Yes, there will be that tag [chokers] that gets thrown our way until we win a trophy." "You're not going to get rid of the tag. Is it deserving of these youngsters coming through? No, it's almost like they're carrying the burden of what happened in previous years, which is always going to be tough on them, but they're the ones in control of their futures at the moment," he added. Boucher signed off by saying that opener Ryan Rickelton and hard-hitting batter Tristan Stubbs hold the key for South Africa in the upcoming WTC final. "Ryan Rickelton has been playing nicely for Mumbai Indians (MI), and he was actually on the tour that we went to England (in 2022) as well. He's actually played quite a few games in England as well, so he'll know the conditions." "And Tristan Stubbs has come back and played a lot of domestic cricket and basically forced his way into the Test side because of the runs that he's got. On paper, Australia will probably feel that they've got a better batting line-up than what we have, but have we got the attitude to go out there and, in a one-off game, just leave it all out there? Absolutely," he added.
