Ben Affleck's ‘The Accountant 2' fights for second place as ‘Sinners' leads box office, while ‘Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith' shines in re-release
twitter
It was reported that this weekend is shaping up to be a major one for the film industry, with three big titles making waves at the box office. According to The Hollywood Reporter,
Ben Affleck
's latest film, '
The Accountant 2
', is competing closely with the re-released '
Star Wars: Episode III
' – Revenge of the Sith, while Sinners continues to outperform expectations in its second weekend.
Revenge of the Sith, brought back to theaters by Disney and Lucasfilm to celebrate its 20th anniversary, earned $3.4 million during Thursday previews. That total beat out the $2.5 million preview earnings of 'The Accountant 2', which included early screenings held on April 15, known as 'Tax Day.'
Despite the early lead by Revenge of the Sith, 'The Accountant 2' is reportedly gaining ground. Industry insiders shared that it could make between $23 million and $25 million over the weekend, which might be enough to take second place. Meanwhile, Sinners is the frontrunner, with projections suggesting it could make between $30 million and $40 million, thanks to excellent reviews and strong word-of-mouth.
The rerelease of 'Revenge of the Sith' is doing much better than recent Star Wars rereleases. Last year, The Phantom Menace brought in $8.7 million on opening weekend, and Return of the Jedi made $5.1 million in 2023. Now, Sith could become one of the most successful re-releases in the franchise's history.
As for 'The Accountant 2', the sequel reunites Ben Affleck with director
Gavin O'Connor
and features returning and new cast members, including Jon Bernthal and J.K. Simmons. The film has been received positively by viewers, scoring a 93% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes and 76% from critics — a big improvement over the first film's 53%. It premiered at SXSW and even won the Audience Award in the Headliners category.
Meanwhile, Sinners, a
vampire thriller
starring Michael B. Jordan, has become a surprise hit. On Thursday alone, it earned $6.1 million, bringing its total to $77.5 million in just one week. The film had a strong $48 million opening over Easter weekend and has been praised by both critics and fans. Some say it's filmmaker
Ryan Coogler
's best work so far.
Other films in theaters include A Minecraft Movie, which continues to do well and is close to reaching $400 million in the U.S., and Until Dawn, a horror movie from Sony and Screen Gems. However, Until Dawn only managed $1 million on Thursday and is expected to have a slow weekend with just around $7 million.
While box office figures may change slightly by Saturday, early reports suggest Sinners will remain on top, with 'The Accountant 2' and Revenge of the Sith battling it out just behind it.

Mindy Kaling On Her Acting Comeback: ‘I Would Like To…'
Last Updated: Actor Mindy Kaling joked about why she hadn't starred in shows like Never Have I Ever, where she was involved as an executive producer. Mindy Kaling is all set to make her acting comeback, and she would rather do it on her own terms. After a successful stint behind the scenes, the talented writer, actress, and producer is ready to switch gears to acting once more. The Office star confessed she missed being an actor in a recent chat. She also explained why she did not appear in series like Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls, despite being an executive producer for the shows. In a chat with The Hollywood Reporter, Mindy joked about why she hasn't starred in her shows. 'Never Have I Ever, a show literally about an Indian American family in Southern California, and if I wasn't on that — what's wrong with me? I think there is a part of me that feels a little superstitious. I'm like, these seem to have gone well and I'm not in them, so maybe I'll wait," she said. Never Have I Ever was inspired by Kaling's own life in the US. After years of focusing on writing and producing, Mindy's eager to get back to acting. 'I miss it, and I would like to write or co-create a show for me to act in soon," she revealed. Drawing from her experience on The Mindy Project, where she was both lead and creator, Kaling noted, 'It is unbelievably fun and it's so efficient. I would love to do that again." She's considering launching a new project in the next few years, where she can reprise her dual role as star and creator. 'That's the thing that maybe in the next couple of years, when I launch a couple of other things that are earlier in the pipeline, that would be something that would be fun to do again," she added. Mindy also reflected on her two-decade career in Hollywood, sharing her humble beginnings and her evolving definition of success. 'My idea of success keeps changing, and so I'm never happy, and that's the writer's disease," she admitted. On the work front, Mindy Kaling was part of the animated series Velma, where she voiced the titular character from the Scooby Doo franchise. Before that, she was seen on The Morning Show, where she portrayed a news anchor. First Published:

‘I was buying drugs, pretended they were vintage clothes,': Miley Cyrus on hiding expenses, ‘leaking blood' on stage and Disney ban
Miley Cyrus recently opened up about a chapter of her life that somehow stayed off the radar despite her living her life in the public eye. In a no-holds-barred chat on The Ringer's Every Single Album podcast, the pop star opened up about the chaos surrounding her 2015 Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz era, revealing how she cleverly masked her drug expenses. She also spoke about the traumatic health scare, performing for 100,000 fans while silently battling a heart condition at just 14 years old, and her time under Disney's tight grip, which once even banned her from singing Hannah Montana songs. 'I'm so glad I survived that time in my life,' she admitted. Also read: Priyanka Chopra's husband Nick Jonas' ex Miley Cyrus recalls their break up: 'He dumped me, I asked why are you leaving' In 2015, the Grammy winner revealed she was secretly spending a lot of money on drugs, and to keep it hidden from her accountant, she labelled her buys as 'vintage clothes.' Miley said, 'And so she would get these checks. That happens on touring all the time.' Her accountant thought she had a massive designer wardrobe. 'She'd ask, 'Where's that $15,000 John Lennon T-shirt?' and I'd be like, 'Oh, it's upstairs… want some?'' Miley laughed. 'We just really want to protect it. It's really delicate. The fabric — got to take care of it. So I bought a lot of vintage clothes that year,' she added. Now 32, Miley says she's been sober since 2019 (though she admitted to a slip during the pandemic) and that sobriety is the most important thing in her life today. 'That's like my God. I need it,' she said. 'I had to crash one more time to get to who I am now,' she said in an Apple Music interview. And that version of her, the one who wrote Flowers, is someone she's proud of. 'Writing Flowers was like unlocking something. It healed me in a way nothing else had.' Also read: Sydney Sweeney calls herself 'really vicious', says it's 'kind of psychotic' how she jumps in character: 'I feel bad for my co-stars' Miley was 14 and in the middle of a Hannah Montana concert, her first Disney gig, when her heart started racing uncontrollably. Everyone thought it was just low blood sugar, but she was diagnosed with a condition called tachycardia. 'It wasn't just nerves,' she recalled. 'People thought I had low blood sugar and handed me a cracker. But I knew something was wrong.' For the rest of the tour, she was forced to wear heart monitors on stage. She doesn't really count it as trauma, saying she has dealt with far worse times in her life, but admitted that the incident left a mark. 'People said I was nervous. I wasn't. I was leaking blood.' Disney series Hannah Montana was Miley's big breakthrough, she played a pop star hiding her real identity to live a normal life. But after she left the show in 2011, Disney banned her from performing any of those songs. Miley admitted, 'It's not like I even wanted to,' perform them. 'Imagine me singing 'The Best of Both Worlds' between 'Wrecking Ball' and 'We Can't Stop.' It just didn't make sense.' Still, she admitted the ban stung a bit; those songs had her face and her voice. But in 2024, Disney finally recognised her as a 'legend' and lifted the ban. Miley made peace with the past, joking, 'If I was made in a Disney lab, something definitely glitched between 2013 and 2016. Sorry, Mickey.'
