1,000 Songs Have Reached One Billion Streams On Spotify: Which Artists Have The Most?

Reaching one billion streams used to be a goal every major artist vied for. There was a time when only the most successful could even dream of seeing a single track make it to that milestone, but as more and more people all around the world have adopted streaming as their go-to manner of consuming music, more tracks are hitting a once highly elusive landmark. 1,000 Billion-Stream Wins Spotify has revealed that 1,000 songs have reached one billion plays on the platform. That group includes tunes performed in many different languages, from artists based all around the world, and even tracks that come from a variety of decades. Spotify's Billions Club Spotify has a playlist titled Billions Club, and the description states simply, 'All the songs with over one billion streams on Spotify.' The list actually features 1,020 tracks, so it seems that the 1,000-win mark was passed a short time ago. The Weeknd Beats Drake, Bad Bunny and Ariana Grande Among all artists, The Weeknd claims the most hits with at least one billion plays, as he has seen 28 tunes with his name attached make it to the milestone. Three other artists — Drake, Bad Bunny, and Ariana Grande — have also passed the 20-smash threshold, as those stars have collected 23, 22, and 21 billion-stream successes, respectively. Taylor Swift comes in fifth place with 18 such commercial juggernauts. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars Hold an All-Time Record Spotify also shared several interesting statistics related to its Billions Club. A total of 576 artists are present in the group, and many of them have collected more than one appearance on the roster. Typically, a song — even a big one — requires 90 months, or almost nine years, to rack up a billion streams on Spotify, but there are quite a few tunes that have managed the feat in much shorter timeframes. The record for the fastest ascent to one billion streams on Spotify belongs to 'Die With a Smile' by Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars. That Grammy-winning duet managed the feat in just 97 days.

Jennifer Lopez helms musical drama Kiss of the Spider Woman in ‘career highlight'

Jennifer Lopez stars in the musical drama film Kiss of the Spider Woman, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The movie also features actors Diego Luna and Tonatiuh, and is directed by Bill Condon. The film is based on the 1976 Argentinian novel of the same name by Manuel Puig and the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical by Terrence McNally, John Kander and Fred Ebb. A description for the film from Sundance reads: 'Valentín, a political prisoner, shares a cell with Molina, a window dresser convicted of public indecency. The two form an unlikely bond as Molina recounts the plot of a Hollywood musical starring his favourite silver screen diva, Ingrid Luna.' 'Jennifer Lopez is an astonishing scene-stealer in a career-highlight performance as Luna/Aurora, with showstopping musical numbers that underscore the exuberant prowess of her dancing and voice,' the description continues. The film has received generally positive reviews, with Lopez being praised for her performance. A Guardian review said of the actor's performance: 'Lopez, who hasn't been recently well-served by her middling Netflix action oeuvre, is also a natural fit for the material and the knowingly over-the-top tone, a larger-than-life star perfect at playing one.' A trailer for the film was released on Wednesday.

‘Eden' Review: Twilight of the Europeans

Jude Law plays a philosophic doctor with dentures in 'Eden,' a historical drama that's by turns bracing, glum and absurd. His character, Friedrich Ritter, inspired by a desire to 'save humanity from itself,' and buttressed by a lot of improperly digested Nietzsche, has fled Germany after World War I to build a life on the island of Floreana in the Galápagos archipelago. He and his wife, Dore (Vanessa Kirby), who has multiple sclerosis, live in a rough and ready style, growing vegetables that are easy on the gums. Richter sends prose accounts of his lifestyle to a German newspaper, which turns out to be not such a hot idea, because when the movie begins his solitude is compromised by the arrival of a starry-eyed fan, Heinz (Daniel Brühl), and Margret (Sydney Sweeney), Heinz's quiet wife. If Friedrich and Dore aren't too taken with Heinz's schemes, the island's growing population is further rocked by the arrival of a self-styled Baroness, played with maximum glam-queen entitlement by Ana de Armas and complemented by a few not-too-handy boy toys. Her exaggerated German accent at times sounds a little like Madeline Kahn's in 'Blazing Saddles.' There are erotic shenanigans galore, and as the tension mounts, harrowing acts of violence. It's a little surprising that these proceedings are led by the director Ron Howard, since this subject matter is more perverse than anything he has set his sights on before. The actors are up to the task, however. De Armas is particularly distinctive; she has a tight grip on her character's venality, but also revels in her absurdity. EdenRated R for language, violence and sexuality. Running time: 2 hours 9 minutes. In theaters.
