Elite 2027 QB names FSU top five school, sets August commitment date

USA Today7 hours ago

Florida State got its quarterback for the 2026 cycle last weekend when four-star Jaden O'Neal committed. They have two players committed in the 2027 class, but they don't have a quarterback yet. Four-star Jayce Johnson is one of their primary targets at the position for that particular class.
Johnson has a total of 29 offers. However, he's narrowed his choices down to five schools. His final programs are the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Texas A&M Aggies, South Carolina Gamecocks, Tennessee Volunteers, and FSU. Also, Johnson has set his commitment date for Aug. 3.
On3's industry rankings have Johnson as the No. 50 overall player in the country and the No. 5 quarterback. He's also the No. 6 prospect out of Georgia.
His numbers weren't gaudy as a sophomore, but Johnson had some nice production. He completed 123 of his 183 passes as a sophomore (67.2 %) for 1,799 yards and 16 touchdowns with just three interceptions. Also, he gained 318 yards on the ground and scored three times.
Johnson was in Tallahassee on June 5 for a camp, and he also took an unofficial visit on June 15. Hopefully, that was enough to secure his commitment.

Diontae Johnson Addresses Controversial Tenure With Ravens Before 2025 NFL Season

Diontae Johnson Addresses Controversial Tenure With Ravens Before 2025 NFL Season originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Cleveland Browns wide receiver Diontae Johnson will play for his third AFC North team in the 2025 NFL season. After spending the first five seasons of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Johnson shared the 2024 season between the Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans. Advertisement It was with the Ravens that one of his biggest controversies to date happened. The 28-year-old wide receiver refused to enter last season's Week 13 duel against the eventual Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles. Fans at M&T Bank Stadium on Dec. 1, where the temperature was 41 degrees at kickoff, saw Johnson refusing to enter the game after Rashod Bateman exited with an injury. Johnson declined, which resulted in a one-game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team and his subsequent waiving. He blamed the temperature for his decision, which could have hurt his performance. Advertisement "It was cold," Johnson said. "So, I'm on the sideline, just standing there, just going to the heater, back and forth, just waiting to hear my name called. So, end of third [quarter], going into the fourth over there, they're like, 'Tae, we need you.' I'm like, 'Nah.' To me, I'm thinking, 'I don't think it's a good idea for me,' because I was thinking about, like, my legs. I don't want to go out there and put bad stuff on film. "And it's not like I didn't want to go in the game. But you've got to think, like, leading up to this point, I'd been through so much. ... I'd checked out mentally. I was like, 'Whatever happens, happens.' I was just rolling with the punches at that time. So, I told them I wasn't going in. I was like, 'I understand what you're saying, but I'm not going to go in.' So, I just sat on the bench, and that's when they suspended me." Johnson played four games with the Ravens, recording one reception on five targets for six yards and no touchdowns. Johnson was waived and then signed with the Texans. He played one game for them, catching two passes for 12 yards and no touchdowns. He's now set to start a new era with the Browns, but the memory of that December game is still fresh. Texas A&M football lands massive commitment from four-star offensive tackle

Let's have a day up front 🙌Welcome to Aggieland, @zadenkrempin 👍 The massive day continues for the big guys up front, as Texas A&M offensive line coach Adam Cushing landed a commitment from the program's second four-star linemen of the 2026 recruiting cycle. Head coach Mike Elko hit the gold mine in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, as 6-foot-5 and 280-pound offensive tackle Zaden Krempin pinned College Station as his next stomping ground on Wednesday afternoon. The standout lineman from Prosper High School has formulated a reputation for being one of the most dominant players in the country, and he will now look to further establish himself with the Aggies. On tape, it does not take long to find Krempin among the carnage on the offensive line. Chances are that you will likely witness him driving opposing players into the dirt, which has become a standard for the No. 19 IOL in the country, per 247 Sports Player Rankings. His athleticism and technical ability are two of his strongest attributes that make him one of the most dangerous offensive linemen in his class. Krempin received offers from 53 schools, including the likes of storied and elite programs like Michigan, Texas, LSU and Alabama, just to name a few. Above all those, he chose Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies. Many believed he narrowed his choices down to the Wolverines, Longhorns and Tigers, but it was Cushing and company that got the nod for the second offensive linemen commitment of the day. His announcement to stay in Texas and play for the Maroon and White marks the 21st commit of the 2026 cycle for Elko. While the program currently ranks as the No. 2 recruiting class according to media outlets like On3 Sports and 247 Sports, the continuous onslaught of commitments could very well propel Texas A&M to the No. 1 spot in the rankings soon. Steelers countdown to kickoff — No. 74: a history of the number and who wore it best

The Steelers countdown to kickoff is here — and we're at 74 days until Pittsburgh faces off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium. In the spirit of the countdown, we're taking a look at the history of No. 74 and the players who wore it best. Current Steelers No. 74 wearer: OG Spencer Anderson Anderson was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 251st overall pick in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He made his regular season debut against the Texans in Week 4 and appeared in eight games during his rookie season. Anderson started four games in 2024 and surrendered just one sack across 159 pass-blocking snaps. His versatility to line up at tackle or guard is an added bonus for Pittsburgh, who could eventually slot Anderson into a starting role once LG Isaac Seumalo's time in the Steel City comes to an end. Last five Steelers to wear No. 74: Best No. 74 in Steelers history: OT Frank Varrichione Varrichione is arguably the best Steeler to ever don the No. 74. He was drafted by Pittsburgh with the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 1955 NFL Draft and served as the team's starting offensive tackle from 1955 to 1960, before being traded to the Rams in 1961. He earned five Pro Bowl selections and was named to the Pittsburgh Steelers Legends team for his contributions to the Steel City brand of football.
