Fumi Joe brings a new culinary concept to the 23rd floor of LKF's California Tower, merging Fumi's Japanese seafood with Kyoto Joe's casual izakaya atmosphere. Expect neon lights, graphic murals and a robatayaki grill counter.
The new restaurant serves cooked-to-order robatayaki, sushi made with fresh seafood flown in daily from Japan, tempura, sukiyaki and more. Like a true Japanese izakaya, the bar also offers a wide selection of fine and rare sakes, available by glass or carafe, as well as highballs, cocktails and an extensive whiskey collection.
To make weeknight dinners easy, a daily set dinner menu is available between 6-8pm at HK$298, featuring salad, miso soup, a choice of sushi, sashimi or tempura and a main course, with options like Miyazaki shabu-shabu pork and grilled silver cod with saikyo miso, all served with steamed Japanese rice or Inaniwa udon.
It's newly opened, so we expect a buzzing crowd on Friday night.
Where: 23/F, California Tower, 30-32 D'Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong, Central

Hong Kong dancer Mo Li sues 12 parties for damages over Mirror concert accident
A Hong Kong dancer left paralysed after being hit by a falling giant screen at a concert by popular Cantopop boy band Mirror in 2022 is suing a government department and 11 other parties involved in the show's production for an undisclosed amount of compensation. The defendants have been accused of negligence and breaching their duty of care. Among those named in the claims are the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, a contractor it hired, and a Guangdong-based stage production house, according to writs filed to the High Court this month. Injured dancer Mo Li Kai-yin, 30, was left paralysed from the neck down in the accident at the Hong Kong Coliseum, operated by the department, and is currently receiving treatment overseas. Li, represented by his lawyers, filed three writs, claiming damages 'for the catastrophic personal injuries, loss and damage' he sustained on July 28, 2022 while working as a dancer at the Mirror concert. During the show, a 500kg LED screen measuring four metres by four metres and suspended from the ceiling suddenly fell and hit Li.

Chiikawa toy craze grips Hong Kong as thousands queue for McDonald's promo meals
Tens of thousands of people in Hong Kong have queued for Chiikawa toys that come with McDonald's Happy Meals as part of a promotional tie-up between the fast food chain and an exhibition featuring the famous Japanese manga. Some 20,000 customers were in line on the McDonald's reservation website at certain points on Monday after sales opened at 11am, and hundreds showed up at different outlets to queue for the special meal sets hours before they were made available. The promotion was related to a three-week event called 'Chiikawa Days Exhibition', organised by Hong Kong studio AllRightReserved, which will begin in the city on August 1 at K11 Musea in Tsim Sha Tsui. Chiikawa, which means 'something small and cute', is the name of the titular hamster protagonist created by Japanese artist Nagano. As part of the promotion, eight different Chiikawa toys will be given away with Happy Meal purchases on Mondays and Fridays between July 28 and August 22 at 40 McDonald's outlets in the city. At a McDonald's branch in Causeway Bay, Heiman Chan, 40, dressed in a Chiikawa T-shirt and carrying a Chiikawa plush doll on his shoulder, waited in line with his prepared QR code to collect the toy with his meal set. 'I found out online that McDonald's was selling Chiikawa Happy Meals, so I came especially to buy one today,' he said.
