Titans QB Cam Ward all jokes after dust-up with Jeffery Simmons
Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward was all jokes when speaking to reporters Wednesday about his incident with defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons at practice on Monday.
"Did I learn anything from it? Jeff's strong as (expletive)," Ward said. "I think it was what we needed though. We love competing, especially me and Jeff.
"I'm excited to have that man as my teammate. I can't wait to see what he do on Sundays – I already know what he about, but I get to see the real thing coming soon."
CAM WARD: Titans' QB on practice scuffle with Jeffery Simmons: 'I think it was what we needed'
The "conflict" – if it can be called that anymore – started Monday when Ward threw a touchdown pass near the end of practice before hitting his signature, "Zombieland" celebration in Simmons' face. He shoved Simmons, Simmons shoved back, and the offensive line rushed to Ward's defense.
Nick Suss of the Tennesseean (part of the USA TODAY Network) reported that the scrum lasted "about 15-20 seconds. Then play resumed."
"That's me and Jeff's relationship," Ward said Wednesday. "I wake up, I get here, he damn near the first one I'm ready to talk (expletive) to."
And Ward fully expects Simmons to give that smack-talk back, saying the defensive tackle is one of the first to do so every day at practice.

Why Cam Ward's scuffle response is good sign for the Titans
Yahoo Sports host Andrew Siciliano and NFL writer Charles McDonald discuss the number one overall pick's comments following a practice shoving match with teammate Jeffery Simmons and why it's a positive turn towards gaining respect in Tennessee. Hear the full conversation on 'Inside Coverage' - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript The story this week is Cam threw a long touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley. He started chirping, people got heated, and then when Cam ran into the end zone, he gave a two-handed shove to Jeffrey Simmons' back, of all people, not some random defensive lineman whos on, you know, the practice squad next week, but Jeffrey Simmons' back. Simmons turned around and hit him in the face with an open hand, using two hands to the helmet. Heres a quote: Jeff is strong as bleep. It was fun, and I think it was exactly what we needed. We love competing, just me and Jeff, and Im excited to have that man as my teammate. That is Cam Ward. Brian Callahan says hes not too bothered, and didnt deem it necessary to throw either player out of practice because practice was, for all intents and purposes, over at that point and only had a couple of reps left. Simmons said its training camp, and tempers flare. I respect the hell out of our offense for having the quarterbacks' backs. At the end of the day, were family, and weve moved on from it. Its like, youve seen this before in prison movies, right? Bear with me. Where its like you gotta take on the biggest, baddest guy to gain everyone elses respect. Cam Ward already had everyones respect, but he decided, Charles, Im gonna go after Jeffrey Simmons, plant my flag, and get everyone to rally behind me. And I think Simmons, just judging by these quotes and seeing on my camera is like, all right dude, like I see you, were good. Yeah, I mean, football is different, man. Its because I, look, people see some of these training camp fights and think, oh, what does this mean? Nothing, it really means nothing. Youll go back to normal. Yeah, you might not even talk about it like five seconds after it happens. You just kind of move on and forget about it. But its funny that you said that because I was just thinking this whole Cam Ward experience since he got to Tennessee, its like its been like him declaring, I am king of the mountain and I will guide you to the light, because he came in like one of the First training camp practices, no, that was me. We weren't good today. We're gonna try to figure it out. Uh, he's been really, you know, commanding of his teammates, trying to get everyone to play with a little bit more fire, a little more edge. Uh, pushing Jeffrey Simmons is an interesting strategy, um, especially because in the moment where it's bold, you know, you push Jeffrey, he might not be thinking, oh, that's the franchise quarterback, I probably shouldn't hit him in the face. Which I believe he wasn't thinking, but I do, I do respect him in this sense. Like, at least he's gonna own it. He's not gonna back down, uh, you know, he's he's not afraid of, you know, poking the bear to be a little bit more literal in this sense. Uh, and I think it's, it's fun to see someone to kind of come in and try to take the reins. So I'm a, I'm a fan of this Cam Ward stuff. Close

Tennessee Titans' L'Jarius Sneed 'very confident' he will be ready Week 1
The Tennessee Titans welcomed cornerback L'Jarius Sneed back onto the practice field in a limited capacity on Wednesday after activating him from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list earlier in the day. This marked the first time since injuring his quad early in the 2024 season that Sneed has been on the field with his teammates, taking part in preparations for the upcoming season. While his return is a boost for the secondary, it is unlikely that the veteran cornerback will take any meaningful team reps until the start of the regular season. After practice, Sneed spoke to reporters and explained why it took so long for him to return to the field after he declared he was healthy at a football camp just weeks before the start of camp. 'It wasn't my decision. It was coach Callahan,' Sneed said, 'He's taking it slow with me. They're all taking it slow to make sure I'm good for the season.' Whether or not that is truly the case is unknown, although ensuring Sneed is healthy for the entirety of the season would seem to be a priority for Callahan and the organization. At one time, when healthy, Sneed was a dynamic playmaker. If he can recapture that level of play in the Titans' secondary, the entire defense will benefit. Now that Sneed has returned and he is "very confident" that he will be ready for the opener, it will be interesting to see how this impacts roster construction over the next few weeks. Titans cornerback L'Jarius Sneed passes physical and is removed from PUP list
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee cornerback L'Jarius Sneed passed his physical, and the Tennessee Titans removed him from the physically unable to perform list Wednesday in time to start practicing. The two-time Super Bowl champion was part of the Titans' big offseason spending spree in March 2024, with Tennessee trading for the cornerback. Sneed played in just five games and wound up on injured reserve with a quadriceps injury. Sneed said during an offseason camp that he was as healthy as he's been. But the Titans put him on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp, with team officials saying Sneed had a cleanup of a knee in May. The Titans open the season Sept. 7 at Denver. Defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson said Sneed will be day to day in his return, with the five-year veteran being eased back into practice. 'It's good to get him back out there, and he's been chomping at the bit," Wilson said before practice. "He's been doing everything in his power in the training room to get to this point,' Wilson said. 'So I'm just excited for the young man, not just the football player but him because I know the work that he's put in.' Sneed has 10 career interceptions, though he's still looking for his first with Tennessee. The Titans are counting on Sneed to start in a secondary featuring second-year cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. and Roger McCreary. Titans starting center Lloyd Cushenberry III passed his physical and returned from the physically unable to perform list on Aug. 11.
