DUBAI, Aug 18: Dubai police apprehended three suspects just hours after a rare pink diamond valued at $25 million was stolen, authorities said Monday.
The Dubai Police General Command confirmed the theft had been foiled in a statement carried by the UAE's official news agency WAM.
Police said a diamond trader had brought the gem from Europe and was lured to a villa under the pretense of a viewing by a purported wealthy client. The diamond was taken during the staged inspection.
An emergency call released by the Dubai Media Office captured the trader saying, 'I came to meet a client to sell a diamond to them… It's stolen.'
Within eight hours, three individuals from an unspecified Asian country were arrested, police added, noting the operation involved specialized field teams and advanced artificial intelligence technologies.
Footage released showed the suspects with their faces blurred, along with CCTV images of the gang during the theft.
Dubai, a major center for diamond trading, is known for its strict security and law enforcement. The incident follows a separate jewelry store robbery in Seattle earlier this month, where thieves stole $2 million in merchandise in just 90 seconds.

Who Were They? Cars Found, Drivers Missing, Liquor Exposed

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 20: In a dramatic security sweep, police patrols in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh uncovered two vehicles stuffed with liquor, after their occupants fled on foot, leaving behind both cars and contraband. According to a security source, the first incident unfolded when a patrol noticed a four-wheel drive idling suspiciously in a school parking lot. As officers approached, the driver suddenly bolted into nearby houses, managing to vanish. When police searched the vehicle, they discovered 109 bottles of imported liquor hidden inside. The car's ownership was traced through the General Traffic Department, and detectives are now pursuing the registered owner for questioning. In a second, almost identical case, another patrol from West Abdullah Al-Mubarak Police Station stopped a suspicious saloon car in the same area. The driver (believed to be Asian) abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot. Officers were stunned to find 47 bottles of locally brewed liquor packed inside. The vehicle was impounded, and its owner was identified for investigation. Both cases have been handed over to detectives, who are preparing to refer the suspects to the Public Prosecution on charges of possession with intent to traffic.

Bangladeshi, Nepali, and Indian Arrested in Kuwait's Toxic Booze Case

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 16: Under the supervision of His Excellency Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, security services have dismantled a criminal network involved in the production and distribution of methanol, a toxic substance that has recently claimed the lives of several members of the Asian community. Following coordinated field investigations, the General Department of Criminal Investigation, in cooperation with the General Department for Drug Control, the General Department of Forensic Evidence, and the Ministry of Health, arrested Nepalese national Bhuban Lal Tamang in Salmiya. He was caught red-handed in possession of methanol and admitted to preparing and selling the substance. Further inquiries led to the arrest of Vishal Dhanyal Chauhan, an Indian national, and Narayan Prasada Bhashyal, a Nepalese national, who were also found to be involved in the production and distribution of the toxic liquid. The network's ringleader, Delora Parkash Daraji, a Bangladeshi national, was later identified and taken into custody. In security operations across Kuwait, authorities arrested 67 individuals linked to the manufacture and sale of illicit alcohol, uncovered six factories dedicated to illegal production, and shut down four others operating within residential and industrial areas. An additional 34 wanted individuals were also apprehended during these campaigns. The Ministry of Interior stressed that methanol poses an immediate and severe risk to public health, warning that it can cause death upon consumption. The ministry reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance toward anyone endangering the country's security or the safety of its residents, vowing to continue pursuing all those involved in trafficking or promoting narcotic and intoxicating substances.
