MP Police recruit centres to hold Ramcharitmanas sessions for trainees
Bhopal, Jul 24 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh Police training wing has directed all its centres to hold Ramcharitmanas recital sessions for their recruits to instil discipline and make them learn from the life of Lord Ram.
The decision was taken after some of the recruits approached the headquarters requesting a seat in a base closer to their home.
ADG (Training) Raja Babu Singh had to dissuade the trainees from raising such a demand and cited examples from the Ramcharitmanas, which describes the virtues of Lord Ram and his 14-year-long exile in the forests.
A senior officer explained that recruits from other religions will not be forced to take part in these Ramcharitmanas recital sessions, and the exercise will be voluntary at each of the training centres.
A nine-month-long basic training course was launched by the ADG via a video conference link for about 4,000 recruits at eight police training schools of the state on Wednesday.
Singh told PTI that his office had received a 'number of applications from the trainees, seeking a centre closer to their home".
'If that is allowed, then the state-level profile of the Madhya Pradesh Police would get compromised. Police job is such where a personnel can be sent anywhere to serve, keeping aside their regional or local affiliations," he said.
Singh, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1994 batch, said the trainees should learn from the life and virtues of Lord Ram and finish their training with discipline.
The ADG said he has asked all the heads or superintendent of police-rank officers heading the police training schools that 'they should try to collectively recite one or two chapters of Shri Ramcharitmanas daily before sleeping." 'Shri Ramcharitmanas is a treasure trove of wisdom, and it shows you a path of ideal value-based life," the ADG said.

Closely monitoring situation: India on Thailand-Cambodia clashes
New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) As military clashes between Thailand and Cambodia continued, India on Saturday said it is closely monitoring the unfolding situation and hoped for cessation of hostilities. At least 32 people have been killed and nearly 1,50,000 displaced in the border clashes between the two Southeast Asian countries that erupted on Thursday. In its reaction to the conflict, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) advised Indian travellers in the region to contact the respective embassies in the two countries for any assistance. 'We are closely monitoring the situation along the border between Cambodia and Thailand," MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said. 'India has close and friendly relations with both countries and hopes that both sides will take measures for a cessation of hostilities and prevention of further escalation," he said. The Indian embassies in Thailand and Cambodia have already issued separate advisories for Indian travellers. The Indian mission in the Thai capital urged all Indian travellers to check updates from authorities in the country before visiting tourist attractions in troubled areas. The Indian embassy in Phnom Penh also advised Indian citizens in Cambodia to avoid travelling to border areas. 'In view of the ongoing clashes at the Cambodia-Thailand border, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travelling to the border areas," it said in a post on social media. India will not allow evergreening of patents: Goyal
New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday said India will not allow 'evergreening" of patents. He said that India has a robust intellectual property rights (IPR) chapter in both the free trade agreements with the UK and the four-nation block EFTA. 'We will not allow any ever greening", and despite that 'we still have a robust IPR chapter with two of the toughest countries of the world in IPR – Switzerland and the UK", he told reporters here. Section 3(d) of the Indian Patents Act, 1970, restricts patents for already-known drugs unless the new claims are superior in terms of efficacy, while Section 3(b) bars patents for products that are against public interest and do not demonstrate enhanced efficacy over existing products. Certain multinational firms have asked India to amend these laws, which were strongly opposed. Ever-greening of patent rights is a strategy allegedly adopted by the innovators having patent rights over products to renew them by bringing in some minor changes, such as adding new mixtures or formulations. It is done when their patent is about to expire. A patent on the new form would have given the innovator company a 20-year monopoly on the drug. Talking about collaboration in the critical minerals sector with the UK, he said India and the UK both have concerns and common interests in this area after the ban imposed by (China) on rare earth permanent magnets. 'The whole world has woken up to the reality that concentration of certain geographies in their supply chains can be harmful, and can suffer consequences in case of any unilateral action. Therefore, India and the UK are now looking to work together both for collaborating on the processing and refining of minerals and making finished products together," he said. PM Modi ‘deeply honoured' to attend Maldives' Independence day event: ‘Productive talks with President Muizzu will…'
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday attended the 60th Independence Day celebrations of Maldives, along with members of his delegation. The event was organised at the Republic Square in Male, where President Mohamed Muizzu and several ministers of the country welcomed PM Modi as the Guest of Honour. After attending the event, PM Modi expressed on X that he was 'deeply honoured' to have witnessed the celebrations. 'The productive talks with President Muizzu will add significant energy to our bilateral relations,' the post read. In another post, he also said that the relationship between the two countries continues to grow and that it is shaped by people-to-people ties and cooperation in various sectors. 'India remains committed to supporting the aspirations of the Maldivian people and to working together for the betterment of our planet,' he added. During the 5-minute event, PM Modi was seen sitting next to Muizzu. The event featured a military parade and cultural performances by children and other artists. The top political and military brass of the Maldives were also present at the event. However, in recent years, bilateral ties have been reset through what experts call a pragmatic approach. Muizzu visited India in October last year, and now PM Modi is on a two-day visit to Maldives. 'The Maldives will not do anything that would harm India's security interests. We value India's role as a close neighbour and friend,' President Muizzu said during the visit, marking a sharp departure from his earlier 'India-Out' campaign.
