HK Express to launch daily Hong Kong-Subang flights from Aug 1
The airline said Subang is its second Malaysian destination after Penang, where it already operates direct flights.
"SAAS allows passengers to reach the Kuala Lumpur city centre in just 30 minutes after clearing customs, making it incredibly convenient for visiting iconic attractions like the Petronas Twin Towers and Bukit Bintang, while also discovering other local Malaysian gems," HK Express said in a statement.
HK Express operates all-Airbus fleet comprising of A320-200, A320neo (new engine option), A321 and A321neo in an all-economy class layout.
Besides Malaysia, the airline also flies to the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, China and Japan.
SAAS, widely known as Subang Airport, was Kuala Lumpur's main airport before Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) opened in 1998.
Jet operations resumed at the airport in August 2024 after more than two decades following the announcement of the Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP) upgrades.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke had previously said that the jet operations at Subang are part of an interim phase of the SARP, ahead of a new terminal development slated to begin within the next three years.
He said the interim period, expected to last two to three years, will help assess operational efficiency before construction begins on a new terminal to expand Subang Airport's capacity as a city airport.
"The interim preparations and operations are important to see how well our operations can run smoothly," Loke said at a press conference after a walkabout at the upgraded Subang Airport in July 2024.
Other airlines operating narrow-body airplanes out of Subang Airport include Firefly, Batik Air Malaysia, Scoot and TransNusa.

AirAsia launches KL, Kuching–Pontianak direct flights from Sept 12
KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Malaysia has introduced two new direct routes linking Kuala Lumpur and Kuching to Pontianak, the capital of West Kalimantan, Indonesia. The flights, set to commence on September 12, 2025, will make AirAsia the sole airline operating international flights to the city. The expansion follows AirAsia's rapid growth in Indonesia, including recent launches of the Kuala Lumpur–Palembang route in July and the upcoming Kuala Lumpur–Semarang service in September. 'With the introduction of Pontianak, AirAsia Malaysia will operate to a total of 17 destinations in Indonesia through 223 weekly flights between the two countries, solidifying its position as the airline with the widest network serving Indonesia,' the company stated. These new routes aim to enhance regional connectivity and support tourism targets, including Malaysia's goal of attracting 4.3 million Indonesian tourists in 2025 and Sarawak's target of five million visitor arrivals by year-end. Additionally, the expansion aligns with Indonesia's national target of 16 million international arrivals, with Malaysia remaining a key source market. The routes were unveiled during the Sarawak Travel Fair in Pontianak, officially launched by West Kalimantan Governor Drs Ria Norsan. He highlighted the benefits of the new flights, stating, 'West Kalimantan stands ready to welcome more Malaysian visitors while providing convenient access for Indonesians seeking business opportunities, leisure travel and medical services in Sarawak and Kuala Lumpur.' Malaysia's Consul in Pontianak, Azizul Zekri Abd Rahim, emphasised the significance of the new connectivity in strengthening bilateral ties. 'With Visit Malaysia 2026 on the horizon, this expansion comes at the perfect moment to further boost tourism, foster cultural exchange and enhance regional ties between both nations,' he said. AirAsia Malaysia CEO Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra noted the strong demand for travel between Malaysia and West Kalimantan as a key driver for the expansion. Two Foreign Investment Projects Underway After Spate Of Trade Missions
Two foreign investment projects announced during the government's trade and investment missions abroad have now begun, refuting claims Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's official visits abroad are fruitless. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said Gul Technologies, a company announced during the trade and investment mission to China last year, is currently building its factory in Kulim, Kedah, with an investment of RM350 million for Phase 1. He said the project is set to create 350 jobs for locals. 'What is interesting is that this company is collaborating with Kulim Advanced Technologies Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Kulim Hi-Tech Park Corporation Sdn Bhd, which is responsible for training young talents. 'Through this collaboration, the company will employ 100 local technicians who will be sent to China for training,' said Tengku Zafrul in a post on X today. Meanwhile, another company, EDA, which was announced during the trade and investment mission to Italy last year, has started an investment worth RM100 million in Jasin, Melaka. 'EDA also has 150 vendors among local companies. This means EDA is not only creating jobs at their facilities, but also supporting Malaysian workers in 150 local companies,' he said. These two projects are among the 2,198 manufacturing projects that have been approved throughout the Madani Government's administration from 2023 to the first quarter of this year. Vietnam stands at core of evolving Asean: Malaysian ambassador
HANOI: Vietnam continues to hold a central position in an ever-evolving Asean, Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Datuk Tan Yang Thai (pic) has said. Vietnam News Agency (VNA) in an interview with Tan in conjunction with 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to Asean, reported Tan highlighted Vietnam's prominent and active contributions to the Asean community-building process, especially during the bloc's transformation from a loosely structured regional organisation into a rules-based community. Vietnam made its mark early with the Hanoi Plan of Action in 1998, hosting the 6th Asean Summit, and leading the bloc's first formal workplan towards the Asean Vision 2020, he said. The country, which formally joined Asean on July 28, 1995, also strongly supported the establishment of key Asean mechanisms during this period, such as the Asean Plus Three, the East Asia Summit, and Asean Regional Forum, expanding the bloc's dialogue partnerships and global reach. He said notably, Vietnam's Chairmanship in 2020, during the peak of Covid-19, demonstrated its strong leadership in crisis diplomacy. For the first time in history, Vietnam hosted the Asean Summit virtually, alongside the establishment of the Asean Covid-19 Response Fund, and the implementation of coordinated regional recovery measures, demonstrating the bloc's solidarity and flexible response capability. After 30 years, Vietnam has evolved from a new entrant into a credible, constructive and consensus-building member of Asean, the diplomat said, noting that its performance reflects increasing confidence, growing diplomatic weight and a strong commitment to regional peace, prosperity, and shared identity - well aligned with the goals of the Asean Community Vision 2045. According to the ambassador, Vietnam has emerged as one of Asean's most dynamic economies, making significant contributions to Asean's global trade profile and serving as an attractive destination for foreign direct investment (FDI) in the region. Tan also highlighted the fruitful development in Vietnam-Malaysia bilateral relations in recent years, noting the recent upgrade of their ties to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership marks a timely and historic step. According to the ambassador, Malaysia has so far invested over US$13 billion in Vietnam through around 760 projects across sectors such as manufacturing, finance, real estate, securities and transport. Malaysian investors have shown strong interest in key destinations such as Hai Phong with its fast-growing seaport and industrial zones, as well as Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Convenient air connectivity has helped attract Malaysian tourists not only to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, but also to destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Sa Pa, Cat Ba, and Phu Quoc. Conversely, Vietnamese travellers are also encouraged to visit Malaysia, especially in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia 2026. The two countries have signed many bilateral agreements and are working toward finalising a Plan of Action for the next five to 10 years to guide cooperation in strategic areas such as trade, technology, and energy. In 2024, two-way trade reached nearly US$18 billion. As an energy-producing nation, Malaysia complements Vietnam - a major energy consumer, especially in renewable energy, offering strong potential for mutually beneficial cooperation. Malaysia also plays a key role in the semiconductor supply chain, supporting Vietnam's manufacturing sector, as Vietnam emerges as a new production hub in Asia. With its young and dynamic workforce, Vietnam holds strong potential for attracting foreign direct investment (FDI). The Vietnam - Malaysia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership serves as a catalyst for realising the Asean Community Vision 2045, VNA quoted Tan said. He also suggesting strengthened bilateral cooperation in green energy trade and halal food supply chain between the two sides, towards scaling these initiatives across Asean. Aligning Vietnam's manufacturing strengths with Malaysia's market access and investment capacity will help build robust supply chain corridors, thus supporting Asean's goals for a digital and green economy by 2045, he added. - Bernama
