NYU professor Scott Galloway on Elon Musk: ‘He is a brilliant guy, but he's alienated…'
Elon Musk
's close association with the White House's cost-cutting
DOGE Office
and his public support of
Donald Trump
have driven a dramatic backlash against the tech billionaire and his companies, particularly
Tesla
. NYU marketing professor
Scott Galloway
calls it 'one of the greatest brand destructions of all time'. Speaking on the Pivot podcast with co-host Kara Swisher, Galloway said Musk's political affiliations have severely damaged Tesla's reputation.
'Tesla was a great brand,' Galloway said. 'The rivers have reversed and the tide has turned entirely against him.'
Citing the latest Axios Harris Poll, Galloway noted that Tesla fell from eighth in 2021 to 95th in 2025 on the list of America's most visible companies—a sharp fall attributed to Musk alienating Tesla's core demographic.
'He is a brilliant guy, but he's alienated his core demographic,' Galloway said, adding 'He's alienated the wrong people. Three-quarters of Republicans would never consider buying an EV'. 'So he's cozied up to the people who aren't interested in EVs.'

Musk ties with Trump impacts Tesla stocks
Musk became a prominent backer of Trump's presidential bid and later assumed a high-profile role with the DOGE Office, which aims to reduce government spending. While this boosted his appeal among conservatives, it triggered boycotts, protests, and a downturn in Tesla's public image. So much so that Tesla investors called for Musk's exit from the EV company.
Tesla's financial performance has also taken a hit. In April, the company reported a 71% drop in earnings per share year over year, amid growing consumer protests at dealerships and showrooms.
Elon Musk 'recommits' to Tesla
Amid criticism, Musk announced during a recent Tesla's earnings call that he would step back from his role in DOGE to refocus on Tesla and his other ventures. On May 24, the X owner shared a post after a service outage stating 'Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms. I must be super focused on X/xAI and Tesla (plus Starship launch next week), as we have critical technologies rolling out. As evidenced by the 𝕏 uptime issues this week, major operational improvements need to be made. The failover redundancy should have worked, but did not'.
He doubled down on that stance during an appearance at the Qatar Economic Forum on Tuesday, stating he would spend 'a lot less' on political campaigns going forward. 'If I see a reason to do political spending in the future, I will do it,' Musk added. 'I do not currently see a reason.'

Farmers urged to stay vigilant against spurious seeds, fertilisers
Dharwad: The agriculture department has stated that there is no shortage of fertilisers and cautioned farmers against buying spurious seeds and fertilisers. Joint director of agriculture Manjunath Antaravalli said there are chances of some companies selling spurious seeds and fertilisers which result in crop damage. "The farmers should exercise caution while purchasing seeds and fertiliser. Purchase from govt facilities or those having ISO certificate," he said. "Vigilance teams have been formed to pay surprise visits to the private seeds and fertiliser shops to check the quality of seeds and contain black marketing. The trade licence will be seized if any shop cheats the farmers," he warned. Dharwad district is going for early sowing as the region received good pre-monsoon showers in the last week of May. According to agriculture department officials, sowing has already commenced in several parts as the rains have receded. Green gram is the most preferred short-term crop. Over one lakh hectare land is targeted for green gram kharif sowing. Manjunath Antaravalli said the monsoon rains across Dharwad district have been promising. The region has received 221.4mm of rainfall, significantly higher than the usual average of 113.3mm. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trading CFD dengan Teknologi dan Kecepatan Lebih Baik IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Farmers have intensified agricultural activities, and the necessary seeds and fertilisers are being supplied. As of now, through 31 distribution centres, a total of 3,679.3 quintals of seeds have been distributed under subsidy and the available stock is 4,751.7 quintals. The total requirement of fertilisers for monsoon crops in the district is 49,471.1 metric tonnes, out of which 37,476.1 metric tonnes have already been supplied. Till now, 19,567.8 metric tonnes have been sold, and 17,908.2 metric tonnes remain in stock, according to the JD. Farmers often traditionally rely on urea and DAP, which provide only nitrogen and phosphorus. However, to increase drought resistance and disease immunity in crops and improve grain weight, potash is also essential, which is often lacking. Several fertilisers containing balanced compositions of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potash are available in the market and can be used as per recommendations. He emphasised that farmers should use fertilisers in the recommended 4:2:1 ratio of nitrogen: phosphorus: potash. The demand for DAP fertiliser in the district stood at 5,078 metric tonnes, while 5,704 metric tonnes have already been supplied. An additional 2,000 metric tonnes will be supplied within the next three days. Furthermore, there is a stock of 8,000 metric tonnes of complex fertilisers available in the district.

Maiya Samman to Mahila Swabalamban: Women venture into entrepreneurship
1 2 Ranchi: Saihun Lakra, a 37-year-old woman in Ranchi's Lada village, had to depend on her husband for her small needs or take loans, to run her family. But her life has taken a turn since she has started getting financial assistance under the Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana (MMSY). Now, she not only fulfils her needs but also helps her husband in buying essentials for his paddy field, with the assistance. Saihun invested the money from the welfare scheme in poultry farming and earned modest returns by selling eggs and chickens. "I started poultry farming in October last year by investing Rs 2,000 to buy 20 chicks. After around three months, I sold some and earned Rs 5,000. Besides, I earn around Rs 1,000 a month by selling eggs. I fulfil the needs of my family and help my husband in agriculture," she told TOI. Like Saihun, many others have also embarked on entrepreneurial ventures through poultry farming and goatery, aiming to achieve economic self-reliance. Roushni Kachhap of Kesaro village bought three goats with the Maiya Samman amount and now hopes to earn a modest sum by selling a pair once they grow up. "I always dreamt of starting my own business, but could not due to economic constraints. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo The govt scheme renewed my hopes. I purchased goats in April and have been taking good care of them so that I can earn a good sum by selling them after they grow up," Roushni said. The Ranchi administration has further bolstered this initiative with the 'Maiya Samman to Mahila Swabalamban' programme, distributing chicks, goats and ducks at minimal costs to empower women and supplement their family's income. Ranchi DC Manjunath Bhajantri, who envisioned the first-of-its-kind initiative in the state, told TOI that the primary focus behind the initiative is to promote the wise use of the amount received under the scheme and prevent the beneficiaries from falling into cybercriminals' trap. "We aim to multiply Rs 2,500 they get under the scheme by at least 10 times. The district administration has conducted several programmes, in co-ordination with SHGs, to motivate women to venture into entrepreneurship. This way, they will not only be able to extend a helping to their families but also contribute to the state's growth," the DC added. So far, 5,170 beneficiaries have got chicks, 1,048 got goats, and 853 got ducks under the initiative, in 18 blocks of Ranchi district.
