Friends kill man after fight over drinks in Ghaziabad, burn his body; 5 nabbed
Ghaziabad: Two days after police recovered a partially burned skeleton and some ashes in a sugarcane field behind Heritage School in Modinagar area, five people have been arrested in connection with the crime.
Forty-year-old Umashankar Sharma had been missing since April 27. Initial probe suggests the accused—Neeraj Saini (33), Ajay Singh (29), Pankaj Saini (19), Manoj Saini (22) and Gaurav Saini (20)—killed Umashankar on April 27 following a scuffle while they were sharing drinks.

Umashankar's brother Dushyantidentified the skeleton on the basis of some clothes found at the spot.
A forensic examination to identify the body is pending.The accused were booked under BNS sections of 103 (murder), 191 (2) (punishment for rioting) and 238 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence, or giving false information to screen offender).
The ACP said, "A missing person report for Umashankar was filed on May 20. On May 21, the police discovered skeletal remains in the forest behind Heritage School.
Based on this information, the police arrested all five and during questioning, the accused confessed to their crime," the ACP said
During probe, we found Umashankar, Ajay, and Neeraj were drinkingat Nai Sohan Dhaba.
After some time, other friends Pankaj Saini, Manoj Saini, and Gaurav Saini alias Kalu arrived at the hotel and, they decided to a secluded spot behind the school," Rai said.
"While drinking, a scuffle broke out between them and Umashankar hurled abuses at them. When Umashankar didn't stop, the five of them killed him and hid his body in the bushes
Two days later, they went back to the spot and burnt the body," the ACP said.

EPFO official arrested by CBI for taking Rs 10K bribe
Bhubaneswar: An official of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) was arrested by the CBI for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a chartered accountant for approving applications about two companies, an official said on Saturday. Anil Rath, Senior Social Security Assistant (SSSA), EPFO Regional Office, Berhampur, was allegedly harassing the complainant by delaying the approval, the official said. A case was registered by the CBI on June 12 against Rath on the basis of a complaint filed by Suraj Kumar Dash. He was booked for the offence of demanding undue advantage/bribe by a public servant under the Prevention of Corruption Act and criminal conspiracy under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Rath allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant to approve the Authorised Signatory Application of two employers -- Jai Jagannath Infratech and Uttam Padhi, on the EPFO Portal. Dash said the application was repeatedly rejected by Rath between March and May on the grounds of incomplete documentation. 'I visited the EPFO (Regional Office, Berhampur) again on June 11 to find out the reason why the application is under process where PRO Anil Rath demanded Rs 10,000 (for two employers at the rate of Rs 5,000 per company) to approve the Authorised Signatory Application,' said Dash in his complaint. After negotiation, the accused agreed to accept a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant, the CBI said. On receiving a complaint from Dash, CBI, ACB, Bhubaneswar verified it on June 12.

Bengaluru psychologist held for smuggling phone into central jail
A 33-year-old prison counsellor has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly attempting to smuggle a mobile phone into the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison, said the police Saturday. The accused has been identified as Navyashree K M, who worked as a contract-based psychologist in the prison's hospital wing. According to the FIR, Navyashree attempted to smuggle a Redmi mobile phone into the premises last Friday. She was caught during a routine security check by personnel from the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF). A handheld metal detector alerted the guards, prompting a detailed search, during which the phone was reportedly found hidden in her private parts. Prison authorities handed her over to the Parappana Agrahara police, who booked her under Section 323 (Dishonest or fraudulent removal or concealment of property) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of the Karnataka Prisons Act. A senior police officer confirmed that the device was meant for an undertrial prisoner. Investigators are now attempting to determine who gave her the phone, the identity of the intended recipient, and the nature of her relationship with the inmate. The police are also probing if this incident was part of a larger pattern and whether she had smuggled phones into the jail before. In another case, a 43-year-old domestic worker was arrested for allegedly stealing Rs 67 lakh in cash and valuables worth Rs 70 lakh from her employer's home in Chamarajpet, Bengaluru. The accused, identified as Uma alias Salma, hails from Chamarajanagar and had been employed as a house help for a bedridden woman named Sujatha. She has been booked under BNS Section 306 (theft by servant). According to a complaint filed by Radha, Sujatha's 72-year-old sister, the theft occurred at their residence, where a large sum of cash was stored after the family sold a property near Electronics City. The money was reportedly kept in a locker at Sujatha's house. Uma, who had joined the household two months ago, is believed to have learned about the cash and valuables. Last month, seizing an opportunity when fewer people were at home, she allegedly made away with the loot. The theft came to light when Sujatha's family decided to buy a flat in Chamarajpet and discovered the locker empty. When questioned, Uma initially denied any involvement but later confessed during police interrogation. The police recovered Rs 57 lakh in cash and valuables worth Rs 70 lakh from her possession.

Panchkula: Pinjore police bust cutch tree theft ring
Pinjore police have registered a case against twelve individuals under the Indian Forest Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) concerning the theft of cutch trees from the Dhamala beat reserved forest area. The estimated loss from the incident stands at ₹2.46 lakh. Based on a tip-off received on June 13, the forest department staff from Kalka and Pinjore were alerted to a team of individuals arriving from Yamunanagar in two cars to illegally fell trees. A Scorpio car linked to the crime was later found near the Pinjore-Nalagarh road. Its driver, Rajesh Kumar from Yamunanagar, was apprehended around 12.30 am. Interrogation of Rajesh led to the discovery of about a dozen felled Cutch trees and six trunks loaded in the Scorpio. While the other accused fled, their identities were revealed through Rajesh's disclosure. Authorities suspect their involvement in a similar theft that occurred on April 29, noting that many of the booked individuals have prior cases of illegal tree felling with Himachal Pradesh and Kalka police.
