#SHOWBIZ: HK actor Alfred Cheung praises Ipoh hor fun
At the time, Cheung, 69, was full of praise for Malaysia, calling it a potential second home and highlighting the country's cleanliness, as well as the warmth and humility of its people.
Cheung recently made a return trip – this time to Ipoh, Perak, where he sought medical treatment.
Even with health matters on the agenda, the foodie in him couldn't resist indulging in local cuisine, including kaya toast, bean sprouts chicken rice, and Ipoh white coffee, which he described as a "richer Hong Kong-style afternoon tea".
However, it was the city's chicken hor fun that truly stole the filmmaker's heart.
"It's the best Cantonese dish I've had in decades. I used to think the best hor fun was from Guangzhou, but after trying the one in Ipoh, everything else doesn't compare," he said in a Facebook post.
Cheung, who has participated in the production of over 80 films, also took the opportunity to commend the people in Ipoh, Penang, and KL for their efforts in preserving traditional Cantonese culture.
"Not only do they preserve traditional Cantonese culture but also blend it with Malay culinary traditions to create unique flavours," he added.

KLP48 to mark first anniversary with ‘Bloom' concert at Zepp KL
KUALA Lumpur-based idol group KLP48 will celebrate its first anniversary with a concert titled Bloom, taking place on Aug 16 at ZEPP Kuala Lumpur. Ahead of the concert, members have been undergoing intensive rehearsals including vocal and choreography training as well as production planning. The event will also feature three guest acts. Malaysian pop group COEX, known for its upbeat sound and girl-power tracks, will open the show. Ismail Izzani, one of Malaysia's leading young solo artistes, will bring his blend of R&B and pop to the stage. Indonesian idol group JKT48, AKB48's first overseas sister group, will also appear, continuing its role in shaping the regional idol scene. Tickets prices range from RM100 to RM350 and include fan benefits such as a KLP48 flag and a send-off session with all artistes. A RM4 processing fee applies.

Leo, elected pope on May 8 after the death of Francis, will spend July 6-20 an hour's drive south of Rome in the sleepy hill town of about 8,900 residents on the shores of Lake Albano. The town's mayor and business owners hope his stay - the first by a pope in 12 years - will attract tourists hoping to see the new leader of the Roman Catholic Church. The Vatican has owned a papal palace in the town, including vast Renaissance-style gardens, since 1596, but Francis, who shunned much of the pomp and privilege of the papacy, chose not to take vacations, spending the summer in his Vatican residence. "Pope Leo has given us a wonderful gift," Stefano Carosi, the owner of a coffee shop on the town's main square, said. "The pope has always been important here ... because he attracts people." Mayor Alberto De Angelis said residents were excited about the visit. "The presence of the popes in Castel Gandolfo has always meant a lot of activity, a lot of economic growth," he said. While Leo is expected to spend most of his vacation out of the public eye, staying in a Vatican-owned building behind a gated wall, residents and tourists will have the opportunity to see him at religious celebrations on July 13 and 20. Dozens of popes have spent the summer months at Castel Gandolfo, where it is cooler than in Rome, which has been sweltering in an early summer heatwave with temperatures reaching more than 37 degrees Celsius (99 degrees Fahrenheit). FRANCIS LEFT 'LONG-LASTING' MUSEUM LEGACY Francis had Castel Gandolfo's papal palace turnedinto a museum and opened the gardens to visitors. Leo will not stay at the palace and the museum will remain open to the public, instead staying at another Vatican property. Although Francis never spent the night in Castel Gandolfo, residents said his decision to open the museum has had long-lasting benefits. Marina Rossi, owner of a mosaic studio in the town, said tourists used to come only in the summer to see the pope at one of his audiences, but now they came more frequently. "It was more of a hit-and-run tourism, because there was the audience and then they would leave," she said. "Now there is a steady flow of tourism throughout the whole year." Now, with Leo coming back, said Rossi, it gave the town the chance to attract even more tourists. "It's an important moment," she said. "I won't hide my happiness." As for what Leo might do during his vacation, Maurizio Carosi, brother of Stefano, had a suggestion, saying he'd tell the pope: "If you want a good glass of wine, come visit with me!" The film, titled Sentuhan Wira (Touch of a Hero), was officially launched by producer Victory Pictures Sdn Bhd yesterday, in conjunction with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the relevant parties, witnessed by National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) Chairman, Datuk Gerald Hans Isaac. Rashid said the film is not just about badminton, but a cinematic piece that reflects struggle, belief, and national pride as Malaysians. He also described the film's production as an important platform to share the experiences of former players with the younger generation, while highlighting the spirit of unity that existed within the national team at the time. "We want the current generation to feel what we experienced as players and to witness the unity and strong patriotic spirit among us. Even though we came from different races, we still succeeded together for one purpose,' he told reporters after the MoU signing. "Yes, it's been a long time-33 years without winning the Thomas Cup. So, with the release of this film, we hope it can boost the spirit of our current players to become more motivated. "What's more important is the spirit of patriotism, not individual glory, but the collective drive to bring honour to the nation,' he said, adding that back then, they placed national pride above personal interests. Meanwhile, Sentuhan Wira director Lenny Ooi said he will present an action-directed style, with filming that emphasises realism in the training and match scenes. "The actors selected must also be able to play badminton; otherwise, their movements will look stiff,' he said.
