Martin Necas is a talented forward for the Carolina Hurricanes. Recently, his name has come up in trade talks with the Colorado Avalanche. But it seems Necas isn't too happy about the idea.
According to recent reports, he is not too interested in joining Colorado. With contract talks coming up, the Hurricanes may have to make a big decision very soon.
Martin Necas not fully interested in Colorado move
On Monday, June 3, 2025, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared on his podcast 32 Thoughts that Martin Necas 'wasn't overly thrilled' with the idea of joining the Colorado Avalanche. Friedman spoke about this while discussing trade rumors involving Necas and Colorado.
This talk began after several reports suggested that the Avalanche had shown interest in acquiring the 25-year-old forward from the Carolina Hurricanes. However, Friedman said on his show that Necas might prefer a different location. He said,
'I heard he wasn't overly thrilled about Colorado. He wants to explore all his options before committing anywhere.'
The NHL offseason is the time when teams look to reshape their rosters.
For Colorado, this could be a setback if Necas is not open to joining them. The Avalanche now need to think carefully before making a trade offer or starting contract talks.

Martin Necas' uncertain future sparks big questions for Hurricanes and Avalanche
Martin Necas is a restricted free agent (RFA) this summer. He just finished his season with Carolina in May 2025 after the Hurricanes were eliminated by the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Playoffs' second round.
Now, contract extension talks are expected to begin soon.
If talks between Necas and Carolina don't go well, the team may look to trade him. But with reports saying he's not keen on Colorado, they'll have to consider other teams. According to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, other NHL teams have also shown interest, and Carolina is likely to keep its options open.
In a quote shared by LeBrun on June 4, 2025, one NHL executive said:
'He's a great player, but if the fit isn't right, Carolina has to think big picture. No one wants to force a trade if the player isn't excited about it.'
With free agency approaching on July 1, 2025, a final decision will need to be made soon. If the Hurricanes and Necas cannot agree, and Colorado is not a favored destination, a new suitor may emerge for the young forward.

St. Louis City looking up with new coach, faces Timbers
St. Louis City will try for consecutive victories under interim manager David Critchley when they visit a Portland Timbers side that returns from a well-deserved weekend off. St. Louis City's 2-1 home win over the San Jose Earthquakes halted an 11-match winless run in league play that resulted in the dismissal of manager Olof Mellberg after less than a half season in charge. Joao Klauss and Eduard Lowen each scored their second goals of the season, and Klauss also earned the penalty in second-half stoppage time that Lowen converted to give St. Louis City the desperately needed result. The matchwinner came only nine minutes after Josef Martinez leveled for San Jose. And for Critchley, who was promoted from his role as head coach of St. Louis' reserve side in MLS Next, it was the result of a more aggressive mentality. "Yes, they equalized late and gave us a little bit of adversity," Critchley said postgame. "It's OK. We're changing things around here. We don't sit back in them moments, we go and try and win a football game. And that's what they done." It was only the fourth time St. Louis had scored multiple goals in a 2025 league match, against eight times when they failed to score at all. Meanwhile, Portland is coming off a rare 10-day layoff following a 2-1 home win over the Colorado Rapids on May 28. Antony and Kevin Kelsy each scored their fifth MLS goals of the season in the win, with Kelsy's tally coming in the 76th minute and just seven minutes after Wayne Frederick's violent challenge reduced Colorado to 10 men. Kelsy's winner marked the first time in seven matches Portland scored multiple goals in a league game, a dry run stretching back to late April. And it may have come at the ideal time to boost morale. "I've got to say that it felt really good," Timbers boss Phil Neville said of the extended break. "We were on this treadmill of game after game after game, and I think after the Colorado game there was a huge sense of, one, the result was good, and two, was that the players were running on empty a little bit." Former Maple Leafs star Jeff O'Neill praises Evan Bouchard as elite NHL defenseman (Image via Getty) A surprising moment happened on June 5, 2025, during a TSN segment when a well-known Toronto Maple Leafs supporter gave huge praise to Edmonton Oilers defenseman Evan Bouchard. The comment came from Jeff O'Neill, a former Leafs forward, while talking with Chris Hayes and Jamie McLennan on their TSN show OverDrive. What he said has caught the attention of fans across the NHL. Jeff O'Neill says Bouchard is one of the top defensemen in the NHL During the TSN OverDrive show on June 5, Jeff O'Neill shared his thoughts after watching Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final. He said: 'I think the pecking order on 'D' in the National Hockey League is one, Cale Makar and two, Bouchard.' O'Neill even joked that in the past, people might have laughed at that take. But now, based on how Bouchard is playing, he believes it's true. — lr99gaming (@lr99gaming) The discussion happened live on TSN between Chris Hayes, Jamie McLennan, and Jeff O'Neill. Hayes said he still prefers Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks. But Jeff O'Neill pushed back with a fun comment. He said if there was a special hut for elite defensemen with Makar and Hughes inside, they would invite Bouchard in and say , 'You're a member. Now come have a coffee.' McLennan reminded everyone of a mistake Bouchard made in November 2024 during a game between Edmonton and Toronto, where Bouchard accidentally hit Connor McDavid with the puck. But McLennan added that Bouchard in the playoffs is a different player: 'He can play in all scenarios and doesn't get overwhelmed.' Also Read: Brad Marchand To The Maple Leafs? Critics Argue It's The Only Way To Toughen Up Toronto Bouchard shines with the Oilers in 2024 and 2025 playoffs Evan Bouchard, who had an 82-point regular season in 2023-24, has continued to impress in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He has taken control of the Oilers' power play and helped improve their penalty kill during the series against Los Angeles Kings. Many fans and analysts now believe Bouchard is one of the best defensemen in the NHL. He has outplayed strong players like Drew Doughty, Shea Theodore, and Miro Heiskanen in each round. Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch and advisor Paul Coffey have trusted Bouchard in key moments, and the 24-year-old is delivering. Jeff O'Neill ended his talk by saying, 'I've fallen in love with the guy.'

The Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, housed that game. Early in the game, Pete DeBoer chose to replace him with backup goalie Casey DeSmith. The change astonished a lot of people. After the loss, Pete DeBoer said, 'Any time you pull a goalie, the reason is to try and spark your group. We talked about playing with the lead. But we were down 2-0 right away.' DeBoer also mentioned Oettinger's past struggles against the Oilers. He noted that the goalie had lost six of his last seven playoff games to Edmonton. Two days later, during the team's season-ending media session, Pete DeBoer again defended his decision. He told reporters he was still a big fan of Oettinger, though he hadn't spoken to him since the game. Jake Oettinger, 26, also spoke during that media session. He said, 'If I make one or two of those saves, I'm still playing. My job is to stop the puck.' Jake Oettinger recently signed an eight-year contract that begins next season. The Stars have not shared further details about DeBoer's firing or any conflict with players.
