TNCC plans 40-day drive against centre
CHENNAI: TNCC is set to launch a 40-day campaign titled 'Save the Constitution' against the union government, in line with the nationwide campaign to be taken up by the AICC as per resolutions passed during the party's Ahmedabad and Belagavi sessions.
TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai has appointed senior party functionaries in charge of 72 district party units for the campaign. He instructed the designated leaders to work closely with the district presidents and conduct consultative meetings at the zonal, town, and block levels. In a statement, Selvaperunthagai said the campaign will unfold in four phases across the state, district, and assembly constituency levels. TNCC will kick off the campaign with a massive public meeting at the Congress Grounds in Chennai on May 4 wherein AICC senior leaders, including TN unit in-charge Girish Chodankar, and senior state leaders, including former Union minister P Chidambaram, will take part.
From May 5 to May 10, public meetings will be held in each district, followed by constituency-wise outreach drives from May 11 to May 17. Party cadres will visit homes across all polling booth areas.
G K Muralidharan, state general secretary of TNCC and in-charge for Dindigul urban district unit for the campaign, told TNIE, 'The district units will take the party's message to every street and every household, distributing notices that expose the BJP's anti-people stance.'

Apparently, the party high command has summoned the State's two top leaders to New Delhi this week to explain the tragic events, sources said. It was only after the central leaders' nudge that the Siddaramaiah-led government appointed a one-man judicial commission headed by retired High Court judge John Michael D'Cunha to probe the incident and handed the case over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), even though a magisterial inquiry was already ordered on the same night, party sources said. At Cabinet meeting Sources said during the State Cabinet meeting held on June 5 several Ministers expressed their dismay and demanded drastic actions against officials responsible for the tragedy. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, MLC and son of Mr. Siddaramaiah, also admitted that the government was under pressure to felicitate the team, but there were lapses in assessing the ground situation. Amid the ongoing power tussle between the top two leaders, both Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar seem to be trying to save their skin by laying the blame on somebody else's doorstep. In what appears to be a carefully crafted administrative move, Mr. Siddaramaiah has managed to hold on to officers loyal to him while turning the political heat on Mr. Shivakumar, who took the lead in the celebrations from the airport to the stadium, some party sources said. The political implications of the stampede and reshuffle of IPS officers appear to be significant, as both Mr. Siddaramaiah and Mr. Shivakumar are constantly locked in a game of one-upmanship, with the latter nursing his chief ministerial ambition. In the meanwhile, reports circulating regarding Chief Secretary Sahlini Rajneesh granting approval in the morning for the RCB celebration even before the final was played have emerged as another sore point.

Centre deliberately denying funds to T.N., says TNCC president
The Union Government is deliberately denying funds to Tamil Nadu, said K. Selvaperunthagai, president of Tamil Nadu Congress Committee here on Saturday. The Centre was acting in a partisan manner even in sanctioning disaster relief funds and all the funds are getting diverted to the BJP-ruled States. The Centre was resorting to the tactics of denying funds to opposition-ruled States and thereby diverting those funds to the BJP-ruled States, he said. Accusing the Centre of treating the non-BJP ruled States in a step-motherly manner, he said that be it GST or the ₹2,500 crore aid due to the State School Education Department, the Centre was acting with an intention.
