Shura Council speaker meets UK parliament delegation
Shadow Economic Secretary (Treasury) Mark Garnier chaired the visiting delegation.
On the table were ways to foster bilateral parliamentary relations, along with a range of topics of mutual interest.
The two sides took stock of the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, with Al Ghanim stressing the need for parliaments to fulfil their moral and humanitarian role in mobilising efforts to halt the Israeli aggression on the enclave, obligating the occupying government to implement the provisions of international humanitarian law and all international conventions and resolutions, and ensuring a humanitarian aid access.

Al Jazeera condemns targeted killing of its journalists in Gaza by Israeli forces
The Al Jazeera Media Network has released a statement condemning in the strongest terms the targeted killing of its journalists and staff in Gaza by the Israeli occupation forces, calling it a blatant and premeditated attack on press freedom. Al Jazeera reports that 28-year-old journalist Anas Al-Sharif was killed along with four colleagues during a targeted Israeli attack on a tent where journalists were housed in Gaza, just outside al-Shifa Hospital, on the evening of 10 August 2025. A total of seven people were killed in the attack, including Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif, correspondent Mohammed Qreiqeh, and camera operators Mohammed Noufal, Ibrahim Zaher, and Moamen Aliwa. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Al Jazeera English (@aljazeeraenglish) The statement reads: Al Jazeera Media Network condemns in the strongest terms the targeted assassination of its correspondents Anas Al Sharif and Mohammed Qraiqea, along with photographers Ibrahim Al Thaher, and Mohamed Nofal, by the Israeli occupation forces in yet another blatant and premeditated attack on press freedom. In a statement by the Israeli occupation force, admitting to their crimes, the journalists were targeted by a directed assault towards the tent where they were stationed opposite Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza. In which they were martyred. This attack comes amid the catastrophic consequences of the ongoing Israeli assault on Gaza, which has seen the relentless slaughter of civilians, forced starvation, and the obliteration of entire communities. The order to assassinate Anas Al Sharif, one of Gaza's bravest journalists, and his colleagues, is a desperate attempt to silence the voices exposing the impending seizure and occupation of Gaza. As Al Jazeera Media Network bids farewell to yet another group of its finest journalists, who boldly and courageously documented the plight of Gaza and its people since the onset of the war, it holds the Israeli occupation forces and government responsible for deliberately targeting and assassinating its journalists. This follows repeated incitement and calls by multiple Israeli officials and spokespersons to target the fearless journalist Anas Al Sharif and his colleagues. Anas and his colleagues were among the last remaining voices from within Gaza, providing the world with unfiltered, on-the-ground coverage of the devastating realities endured by its people. While international media was barred from entering, Al Jazeera journalists remained within besieged Gaza, experiencing the hunger and suffering they documented through their lenses. Through continuous, courageous live coverage, they have delivered searing eyewitness accounts of the horrors unleashed over 22 months of relentless bombing and destruction. Despite losing several journalists to deliberate attacks and working under constant threat, Anas Al Sharif, Mohammed Qraiqea, and their colleagues persisted in the strip to ensure the world sees the harrowing truth experienced by Gaza's populace. While vehemently condemning these heinous crimes and the ongoing attempts by Israeli authorities to silence the truth, Al Jazeera Media Network calls on the international community and all relevant organisations to take decisive measures to halt this ongoing genocide and end the deliberate targeting of journalists. Al Jazeera emphasises that immunity for perpetrators and the lack of accountability embolden Israel's actions and encourage further oppression against witnesses to the truth. In the event of his death, Anas Al-Sharif has arranged the publishing of his final message, which was originally written on 6 April 2025. The message was posted on his official X account on 11 August 2025. This is my will and my final message. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice. First, peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings. If these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice. First, peace be upon you and Allah's mercy and blessings. Allah knows I gave every effort and all my strength to be a support and a voice for my people, ever since I opened my eyes to life in the alleys and streets of the Jabalia refugee camp. My hope was that Allah would extend my life so I could return with my family and loved ones to our original town of occupied Asqalan (Al-Majdal). But Allah's will came first, and His decree is final. I have lived through pain in all its details, tasted suffering and loss many times, yet I never once hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or falsification—so that Allah may bear witness against those who stayed silent, those who accepted our killing, those who choked our breath, and whose hearts were unmoved by the scattered remains of our children and women, doing nothing to stop the massacre that our people have faced for more than a year and a half. I entrust you with Palestine—the jewel in the crown of the Muslim world, the heartbeat of every free person in this world. I entrust you with its people, with its wronged and innocent children who never had the time to dream or live in safety and peace. Their pure bodies were crushed under thousands of tons of Israeli bombs and missiles, torn apart and scattered across the walls. I urge you not to let chains silence you, nor borders restrain you. Be bridges toward the liberation of the land and its people, until the sun of dignity and freedom rises over our stolen homeland. I entrust you to take care of my family. I entrust you with my beloved daughter Sham, the light of my eyes, whom I never got the chance to watch grow up as I had dreamed. I entrust you with my dear son Salah, whom I had wished to support and accompany through life until he grew strong enough to carry my burden and continue the mission. I entrust you with my beloved mother, whose blessed prayers brought me to where I am, whose supplications were my fortress and whose light guided my path. I pray that Allah grants her strength and rewards her on my behalf with the best of rewards. I also entrust you with my lifelong companion, my beloved wife, Umm Salah (Bayan), from whom the war separated me for many long days and months. Yet she remained faithful to our bond, steadfast as the trunk of an olive tree that does not bend—patient, trusting in Allah, and carrying the responsibility in my absence with all her strength and faith. I urge you to stand by them, to be their support after Allah Almighty. If I die, I die steadfast upon my principles. I testify before Allah that I am content with His decree, certain of meeting Him, and assured that what is with Allah is better and everlasting. O Allah, accept me among the martyrs, forgive my past and future sins, and make my blood a light that illuminates the path of freedom for my people and my family. Forgive me if I have fallen short, and pray for me with mercy, for I kept my promise and never changed or betrayed it. Do not forget Gaza… And do not forget me in your sincere prayers for forgiveness and acceptance. Anas Jamal Al-Sharif 06.04.2025 The ILQ Team extends our deepest condolences to the friends and families of Anas Al-Sharif, Mohammed Qreiqeh, Mohammed Noufal, Ibrahim Zaher, and Moamen Aliwa.

Qatar participates in Arab League meeting to address Israel's decision to reoccupy Gaza fully
QNA Cairo The State of Qatar participated in the Arab League Council's extraordinary session at the level of permanent delegates, held on Sunday at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League in Cairo. The session discussed mechanisms for Arab and international action to halt the genocide committed by Israel, the occupying power, against the Palestinian people. It also addressed the decisions and plans aimed at imposing full military control over the Gaza Strip, consolidating the illegal occupation, and carrying out the forced displacement of the Palestinian population. Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the Arab League Maryam Ahmed Al Shibi led the State of Qatar's delegation at the session. The council's extraordinary session was convened at the request of the State of Palestine, in light of the continued crimes of aggression, genocide and ethnic cleansing committed by Israel, the occupying power, against the Palestinian people. The Israeli occupation government has announced its intention to reoccupy the Gaza Strip and fully control it, resulting in forced displacement and the commission of many heinous massacres. This is a continuation of the crimes of aggression, genocide and ethnic cleansing committed over the past 673 consecutive days, including the imposition of a deadly siege and the use of a systematic policy of starvation as a weapon of genocide.

Jordan to host meeting with Syria and US on Syrian reconstruction
Jordan will host a Jordanian-Syrian-American meeting on Tuesday to discuss ways to support the rebuilding of Syria, its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates says, as Damascus seeks investment deals with international companies to revive its war-ravaged economy. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani and United States envoy to Syria Thomas Barrack are expected to attend, the ministry said in a statement on Sunday. Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa's fledgling government has been grappling with the fallout from sectarian violence between Bedouin and Druze fighters in the southern province of Suwayda as well as Israeli strikes on Syrian soldiers and the capital, Damascus. Syria's economy remains in tatters after nearly 14 years of war and the ouster of longtime President Bashar al-Assad in December. Jordan made its announcement after Damascus signed 12 agreements worth $14bn on Wednesday, including a $4bn agreement with Qatar's UCC Holding to build a new airport and a $2bn deal to establish a subway in Damascus with the national investment corporation of the United Arab Emirates. The projects 'will extend across Syria and represent a qualitative shift in infrastructure and economic life', Talal al-Hilali, head of the Syrian Investment Authority, said during a ceremony at the presidential palace in Damascus. He described the agreements as 'a turning point' for Syria's future. Al-Sharaa and Barrack were both present at the signing ceremony, according to Syria's official SANA news agency. The United Nations has put Syria's post-war reconstruction costs at more than $400bn. Syria's new authorities have worked to attract investment for the reconstruction of infrastructure across the country after the US and the European Union lifted sanctions on Syria in the wake of al-Assad's ouster. Other major developments on the investment front include the $2bn Damascus Towers project for residential high rises, signed with the Italian-based company UBAKO; a $500m deal for the Baramkeh Towers project, also in Damascus; and another $60m agreement for Baramkeh Mall. Last month, Saudi Arabia said it would invest about $3bn in real estate and infrastructure projects in Syria. In May, Damascus signed a $7bn energy deal with a consortium of Qatari, Turkish and US companies as it seeks to revive its crippled power sector. (Agencies)
