Those present will include representatives from the ICC and the Asian Cricket Council.
The conference, which will run under the motto 'Together We Grow', aims to gather insights from ICC members on ways to develop cricket in the region. Key focus areas include participation, non-ICC revenue generation, training and education, and high-performance strategies.
The conference will also provide members with strategies to navigate the changing cricket landscape, and thereby strengthen relationships within the cricket community.
William Glenwright, the ICC's head of global development, said the Asia Regional Conference 'plays a critically important role in delivering the ICC's strategic ambitions'.

'It is a great opportunity for us to learn from what our members are doing so successfully and to apply those lessons globally to help the game grow like it has never grown before,' he said.

West Indies issue LA 2028 Olympic cricket plea

West Indies issue LA 2028 Olympic cricket plea Cricket returns to the Olympics in 2028 for the first time since 1900. Photo: AFP Cricket West Indies has urged the International Cricket Council (ICC) to give Caribbean nations a chance to qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Games and avoid the region being "shut out of history." LA 2028 will see cricket returning to the Olympics for the first time since 1900, with a six-team T20 event in both the men's and women's game set to be included in the programme. The ICC, cricket's global governing body, has yet to announce the qualification process, but there are concerns in the West Indies, long one of the sport's established major international teams and the one closest geographically to Los Angeles, that their constituent countries could be excluded. That's because while the likes of Barbados, Jamaica – the home of Games sprint great Usain Bolt – Antigua and Barbuda and Trinidad and Tobago compete under the West Indies banner when it comes to international cricket, those territories are all individual entities at an Olympics. So if cricket qualification for LA 2028 is to be decided primarily on the basis of world rankings, the event could go ahead without any Caribbean involvement at all. "All we are asking is that our individual nations' exceptional Olympic legacy be considered in the conversation," CWI chief executive Chris Dehring said on Thursday. "Our nations have proudly flown their individual flags atop Olympic podiums as perennial gold medallists. "Now, with cricket's inclusion, we must ensure that our cricketers are not shut out of history. We are ready to collaborate. We are ready to compete. But above all, we are asking for fairness." CWI appears to accept there is no prospect of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowing a West Indies team to compete at LA 2028, even though their men's side were T20 world champions in 2012 and 2016 – when their women took the equivalent female global title. But in a letter to the ICC, CWI suggested two possible routes for regional representation. The first would see an inter-Caribbean qualifying tournament should the West Indies men or women find themselves in a qualifying position, allowing the winner to take the region's spot. In the second, a dedicated regional qualifying process involving each of the West Indies' independent nations would take place. CWI president Kishore Shallow added: "The Caribbean has always punched above its weight at the Olympics, inspiring the world with our athletic brilliance. "Cricket's return to the Games in 2028 must not exclude our young cricketers from the same dream that has inspired our athletes." (AFP)

Alonso set to replace Ancelotti at Real Madrid

Alonso set to replace Ancelotti at Real Madrid Xabi Alonso's contract as Real Madrid boss will run until June 2028. Photo: AFP Xabi Alonso is set to be appointed as new Real Madrid boss after confirming his exit from Bayer Leverkusen last week, with Carlo Ancelotti poised to leave the club at the end of the season to take charge of the Brazil national team, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced. The 65-year-old Italian will become Brazil's first foreign coach since 1965. "The greatest national team in the history of football will now be led by the most successful coach in the world," said the CBF in a statement. "He will lead Brazil until the 2026 World Cup and will coach them in their next two qualifying matches against Ecuador and Paraguay next month." Ancelotti will be the fourth non-Brazilian to coach Brazil. The last was Argentine Filpo Nunez who was in charge for one game 60 years ago. Brazil sacked Dorival Junior after a 4-1 thrashing by Argentina in March and are fourth in the South American qualifying table for the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada. "Bringing Carlo Ancelotti to lead Brazil is more than a strategic move – it's a statement to the world that we are determined to regain the top spot on the podium," said CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues. "He's the greatest coach in history and now he's in charge of the greatest team on the planet," he added. "Together, we will write glorious new chapters for Brazilian football." Record five-time World Cup winners Brazil last won the trophy in 2002, enduring more than two decades of disappointment since then. Rodrigues had tried to lure Ancelotti to Brazil two years ago after Tite stood down as coach following a quarter-final exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. That bid fell apart in December 2023 when Ancelotti extended his contract with Madrid, forcing Brazil to turn to Dorival after the team struggled under Fernando Diniz in his brief spell at the helm. Eighteen months on from Dorival's appointment, Ancelotti leaves Madrid with a year left on his contract as one of the club's most successful managers, winning 15 trophies across two spells with Los Blancos, including a La Liga and Champions League double last season. In his first spell at Real Madrid he led them to La Decima in 2014 – their 10th Champions League triumph. He has won the competition three times with Los Blancos. After being sacked in 2015 he returned six years later when Zinedine Zidane resigned to lift the trophy again in 2022 and 2024. Ancelotti has also led Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich among other teams, including AC Milan with whom he won the Champions League twice as a coach in 2003 and 2007. The Italian is the coach who has won the European Cup most often, triumphing on five occasions – two more than Zidane, Pep Guardiola and Bob Paisley. At Real Madrid, Ancelotti has coached Brazil stars Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes and Eder Militao, as well as teenage talent Endrick. The coach will leave Madrid on May 25 after the club's final La Liga match of the season, against Real Sociedad. Madrid are set to finish the season empty-handed after losing the Clasico at Barcelona on Sunday to fall seven points behind their league leading arch-rivals. Ancelotti will oversee Madrid's home game against Mallorca on Wednesday and the trip to Sevilla on May 18, departing before the Club World Cup this summer in the US. The coach has won league titles in the five major European leagues, in Spain, England, Italy, Germany and France across a 30-year managerial career. Spanish media reported Monday that Leverkusen coach Alonso is set to take over at Real Madrid on June 1, ahead of the Club World Cup. Madrid's first match is against Saudi side Al Hilal in Miami on June 18. (AFP)

Afghanistan women's team gets funding from the International Cricket Council

Afghan women cricketers will get high-level support in a bid to rejoin international competition after the sport's world governing body created a task force to coordinate direct funding, elite coaching and facilities for displaced players. Advertisement Dozens of players from Afghanistan's national women's team relocated to Australia after the Taliban retook control of the country in 2021 and enforced bans on women's sports. The players have been seeking official support ever since. The International Cricket Council (ICC) released a statement on Sunday saying it reached an agreement with the sport's national associations in Australia, India and England to support the displaced Afghan women's players. ICC chairman Jay Shah said his organisation is 'deeply committed to fostering inclusivity and ensuring every cricketer has the opportunity to shine, regardless of their circumstances'. 'The ICC believes this [support fund] will not only help preserve the sporting careers of Afghan women cricketers but also reinforce the sport's role as a unifying force that transcends borders and adversity,' he said. England's men have continued to face Afghanistan in ICC events.
