Man behind viral video of fight at Ibiza pool 'was protecting friend from bully'

Metro27-06-2025
A holidaymaker at the centre of a poolside fight which saw footballer Kian Harratt throwing chairs at brawlers has revealed it all started with 'aggressive splashing'.
Viral footage shows a group suddenly launching into a fight, including the Oldham Athletic striker who was seen throwing a chair at a middle-aged woman at the Marco Polo Hotel in San Antonio.
He insists he only joined in after his friend was punched by a '6 ft 6 bully', but that man Brandon Watkins has denied these claims.
Instead, he said he was 'provoked' by Kian's group who were 'looking for a fight'.
Brandon told MailOnline: 'The fight happened on day five of our holiday. We'd been around that pool every day and getting on with everybody and making friends with people. https://www.instagram.com/p/DLNbe7qN7ZX/
'These guys turned up and started throwing balls about. Several people were saying they're going to be trouble even before it kicked off.
'At one point one of his mates got in the pool next to me and just started aggressively splashing me. One of them said what are you looking at?
'Next thing I knew Kian picked up a chair and threw it.'
Brandon said Kian's group appeared intoxicated, but after the brawl fellow holidaymakers bought them drinks to say thank you for dealing with the group.
They also stayed with the woman who had broken her toe in the fight, while Kian and his group were kicked out of the hotel.
A close friend of the woman injured in the fight also backed up Brandon's version, saying: 'It was carnage, I've never seen anything like it in my life. My friend was injured. They were all just shouting and swearing at each other.
'She's an absolute angel and such a good person which is why she got involved – she saw people were arguing and she just went over to stop it.
'Kian spoke to her like she was a piece of shit and Brandon stepped in out of respect and said don't speak to a woman like that. Brandon threw the first punch then all Kian's friends got involved.'
After the footage soon went viral, Kian apologised saying he 'felt terrible' – but later accused the injured woman of 'going down a bit easy'.
The friend has hit back at his response, saying there is 'no remorse whatsoever'.
They said: 'Him and his mates were kicked out of the hotel without apologising, he's only sorry because he has been identified.
'My friend is really embarrassed by the whole thing, it was a horrible experience made worse as people who have seen the video have been trolling her online.'
In December, Harratt was fined over £1,153 after he was caught poaching in North Yorkshire.
Last year, Harratt was also banned for four months and fined £3,200 after admitting breaking the Football Association's betting rules by placing 484 bets on matches.
Harratt, who was born in Pontefract, made his professional debut with Huddersfield Town in December 2019.
He scored a dramatic extra-time winner for Oldham in the National League play-off final at Wembley earlier this month.

This was the same hotel which hit headlines in June when it was the backdrop for a poolside brawl involving English footballer Kian Harratt. The plunge casualty, who has not been named, was taken to Can Misses Hospital, according to police. The Civil Guard has launched an investigation into the circumstances. A spokesman said today: "A 22-year-old British tourist was rushed to hospital after falling from the third floor of a hotel in San Antonio. "He was conscious when he was taken away." A video of a poolside brawl at the hotel went viral in June, and Oldham Athletic forward Kian Harratt was been identified launching a chair into a woman. Brit holidaymaker Kyle Crawford told The Sun Oldham Athletic forward Kian Harratt and three of his pals were "being horrible" to a group of women before the clash on June 21. And two videos captured the brawl, including one which appears to show the striker - wearing black shorts and with his distinctive goatee - lob chair at one of them. Harrat later spoke out online to say he felt "very apologetic" and "terrible" that he hit the woman. But he blamed other tourists for starting the brawl and alleges a man approached his friend first and went on to "punch him". The striker then claims a chair was thrown at him which prompted him to pick it up and threw it back. But sunseeker Kyle, who was also on holiday with a group of mates in Ibiza, Spain, contested the footballer's version of events. He told The Sun: "There was four lads, we didn't know who they were, being horrible to some women." A second source caught up in the brawl told us: "It was Kian Harratt. He was bothering these girls." Kyle said Harratt and his friends were "throwing little rugby balls" at the female tourists inside the pool, one of which being the woman that was struck by a chair later on. "They were just in the pool splashing them and throwing balls at them - being proper immature," he explained. Kyle said he and his mate stepped in to stand up for the women. More to follow... Strictly's Chris Robshaw hires 24/7 security after terrifying stalker left wife Camilla ‘scared to leave the house'

A source close to the pair told the Mail Online: "Particularly when [Camilla] was post-partum, she was petrified she wouldn't be able to outrun this individual. "They have invested in top-of-the-range security systems to keep the family safe." The duo share children Wilding, five, and 18-month-old Hunter together. The Sun were the first to reveal the heartache surrounding Chris and his family after the stalker incident left him debating whether to pull out of the BBC dance contest before it had begun. Pals close to the England rugby legend said he had been targeted by the woman after briefly meeting her twice during work events last year, with the initial abuse starting six months after meeting him. With the scary incident still looming, a further source told the Mail how Camilla had asked Chris to upgrade the security detail on their leafy Surrey mansion as opposed to buying her birthday gifts. They said: "They've talked about the idea of a security guard dog because they love their animals but also Camilla especially, would feel more protected. "It's heartbreaking that it's come to this but that's how seriously they are taking it. "This stalker business is no joke. She's destroyed the lives of small business owners, families, and left others thousands of pounds out of pocket. "The claims she makes are sickening, and some of her victims have been left struggling mentally after their ordeal." Chris, who retired from professional rugby in 2022, was announced as a contestant last week. Those close to him revealed his ordeal started last July when he attended the same event as the woman. She went on to make a series of disturbing and damning allegations about Chris and his wife Camilla, 39, as well as other people she worked with. 'He was never alone with her and they barely spoke so he's got no idea why she targeted him." 4
