Man behind viral video of fight at Ibiza pool 'was protecting friend from bully'

Metro4 hours ago

A holidaymaker at the centre of a poolside fight which saw footballer Kian Harratt throwing chairs at brawlers has revealed it all started with 'aggressive splashing'.
Viral footage shows a group suddenly launching into a fight, including the Oldham Athletic striker who was seen throwing a chair at a middle-aged woman at the Marco Polo Hotel in San Antonio.
He insists he only joined in after his friend was punched by a '6 ft 6 bully', but that man Brandon Watkins has denied these claims.
Instead, he said he was 'provoked' by Kian's group who were 'looking for a fight'.
Brandon told MailOnline: 'The fight happened on day five of our holiday. We'd been around that pool every day and getting on with everybody and making friends with people. https://www.instagram.com/p/DLNbe7qN7ZX/
'These guys turned up and started throwing balls about. Several people were saying they're going to be trouble even before it kicked off.
'At one point one of his mates got in the pool next to me and just started aggressively splashing me. One of them said what are you looking at?
'Next thing I knew Kian picked up a chair and threw it.'
Brandon said Kian's group appeared intoxicated, but after the brawl fellow holidaymakers bought them drinks to say thank you for dealing with the group.
They also stayed with the woman who had broken her toe in the fight, while Kian and his group were kicked out of the hotel.
A close friend of the woman injured in the fight also backed up Brandon's version, saying: 'It was carnage, I've never seen anything like it in my life. My friend was injured. They were all just shouting and swearing at each other.
'She's an absolute angel and such a good person which is why she got involved – she saw people were arguing and she just went over to stop it.
'Kian spoke to her like she was a piece of shit and Brandon stepped in out of respect and said don't speak to a woman like that. Brandon threw the first punch then all Kian's friends got involved.'
After the footage soon went viral, Kian apologised saying he 'felt terrible' – but later accused the injured woman of 'going down a bit easy'.
The friend has hit back at his response, saying there is 'no remorse whatsoever'.
They said: 'Him and his mates were kicked out of the hotel without apologising, he's only sorry because he has been identified.
'My friend is really embarrassed by the whole thing, it was a horrible experience made worse as people who have seen the video have been trolling her online.'
In December, Harratt was fined over £1,153 after he was caught poaching in North Yorkshire.
Last year, Harratt was also banned for four months and fined £3,200 after admitting breaking the Football Association's betting rules by placing 484 bets on matches.
Harratt, who was born in Pontefract, made his professional debut with Huddersfield Town in December 2019.
He scored a dramatic extra-time winner for Oldham in the National League play-off final at Wembley earlier this month.

EXCLUSIVE Inside the troubled personal life of Wembley winner-football yob who knocked woman out with a chair: Criminal convictions, betting ban and why insider says 'he is a little bit off his head'

Three weeks ago footballer Kian Harratt had the world at his feet - he had just scored the winning goal in extra time at Wembley to earn Oldham Athletic promotion back to the football league. But following MainOnline's explosive revelation that Harratt was the yob at the centre of a shameful brawl and threw a chair, injuring an innocent woman trying to separate the fighting groups, his future has never looked more uncertain. When the video started going viral on social media earlier this week Harratt - who is understood to have been celebrating his promotion with a group of childhood friends - initially appeared to laugh off the controversy, resharing it on his own channels. Oldham - who he only signed for in March - has so far made no comment about the video. But facing mounting pressure on Thursday the player broke his silence on the fracas, claiming he was 'very apologetic and 'felt terrible' and that he 'accidentally hit' the lady before bizarrely slipping in a football cliche when he accused the woman of going 'down a bit easy'. Despite his young age, this is not the first controversial incident involving the talented footballer. Born into a traveller family in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, Harratt wowed scouts with his intelligence and strength from an early age prompting both Barnsley and Leeds United to give him opportunities in their academy before he signed as an academy scholar at Huddersfield Town in 2018. He made his professional debut the following year and spent several successful spells out on loan but by 2022 he was making headlines for the wrong reasons when he was convicted of hare coursing at a farm in East Yorkshire. The cruel sport involving dogs - usually greyhounds, lurchers or salukis - chasing and attempting to kill hares while participants bet on the outcome has been illegal since 2005. Beverley Magistrates Court fined him £830, plus £233 costs and Huddersfield also issued him with 'a significant fine' as well as 'extensive educational and community work'. In a statement the club said: 'In our extensive discussions with him, it has been made abundantly clear to Kian that he must now seize the opportunity to rebuild his reputation and to make amends for this unacceptable situation.' He appears to have taken the warning seriously and gave up his hunting dog 'Took me a while to realise but getting out of it now', he told pals on Facebook. 'It's not a long career… need to make as much as I can.' @ Just for the people who have seen the video circling the internet off me throwing a chair 'FOR ABSOLUTELY NO REASON' 👍🏻 here's the fella who started it all and let me just say he was the worst man you could ever come across and a bully! He was 6,6 and built like a brick! Anyways he was swimming over to young couples while there at chilling and trying to make the lad feel uncomfortable flirting with there girls and all sorts off daft stuff like that! And one off my mates who is only 18 by the way jumped in the pool and started splashing him having a laugh like you do on holiday then it's stopped! After that my mate got out off the pool and the big fella shouted over to him wtf are you looking at so obviously my mates said to him I'm looking at you the fella as then flipped and started walking to my mate and the woman who gets his with the chair is in this video here trying to stop him my pal then goes dancing over to him not expecting the man to punch him…but anyways he hit my pal in the face and dropped him and then proceeded to kick him in the face while he was down👌🏻 the video cut off tho after that obviously like any normal mates would do we've backed him up I tried staying out the way as I don't want the trouble a chair then got lobbed towards me so I picked the chair up and threw it back and it accidentally hit the woman who as you can see went down abit easy but besides that I was very apologetic and I felt terrible, but I'd have felt even worse if we left my mate to get badly beaten up while he's trying to enjoy his holiday I hope this video opens peoples eyes I had to post it cause I've had nothing but abuse all morning and I'm sure this will clear it or so it should 👍🏻 #fyp ♬ original sound - 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗣𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗧𝘃 - 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗣𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗛𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗧𝘃 Footage initially emerged of the quarrel over the weekend without Harratt being identified One women suddenly dropped to the floor after being walloped by a plastic chair by the striker But the following season Harratt was banned from football for four months while still at Huddersfield after placing 484 bets on matches over a three-year period. That came with a £3,200 fine and 36 of the bets were on Huddersfield games - though he insisted he was not in the matchday squad for any of them. A second criminal conviction followed in 2024 while on loan at Fleetwood Town when he was fined £1,000 by police after he was caught poaching in North Yorkshire. Police were called just before midnight on February 6 to investigate a vehicle being driven suspiciously around Whashton, near Richmond. A short while later Harratt, from Pontefract, and Daniel Luke Dimmock, 34, from Castleford were found carrying large black lamps, and with lurcher-type dogs on slip leads, police said. The men were searched, and their lamps and vehicle seized. They were found guilty of entering land as a trespasser at night with poaching equipment at Harrogate Magistrates Court on December 19 and fined £1,153 each, and ordered to pay hundreds of pounds more in costs and surcharges, according to police. In January - the month after his conviction - Huddersfield agreed to make his loan at Fleetwood Town permanent. In March he dropped into the National League, signing for Oldham where his heroics helped them seal promotion. The criminal convictions - both of which saw him in the dock alongside accomplices from outside football - have gained him a harmful reputation at other clubs. A Football League scout MailOnline: 'As a footballer, Kian has got all the talent to succeed. But as a person, he's a little bit off his head. The 23-year-old English striker signed as an academy scholar at Huddersfield Town in 2018 Oldham - who he only signed for in March - has so far made no comment about the video 'He's the product of his environment, his friendship group and obviously he doesn't see it. 'He's definitely seen as someone who's not fully concentrated on being the best footballer he can be. 'It's a shame and I know for a fact that managers and coaches at teams he has played for have found him extremely frustrating. 'He's got ability but he's got no focus. 'Kian's a football league player, any day of the week, if you look at ability alone. 'So you've got to ask yourself - why is it that he's ended up in non-league football? 'He should never have been in the National League with the ability that he's got. 'When he's at it, he's a handful to play against. But there are too many time when he's not at it because he's distracted.'

TV star accused of murdering partner 'whose head hasn't been recovered'

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A former reality TV star has been accused of murdering her partner, who was found with his head cut off. Beauty and the Geek's Tamika Chesser, 34, was arrested on June 19 after police responded to reports of a fire at her home that she shares with boyfriend Julian Daniel Story, 39, in Port Lincoln, Australia. However, after emergency services arrived at the scene, Story's head was found dismembered on the bathroom floor of the apartment. After being arrested at her home and later charged with murder and police assault, Chesser was also charged with performing an act or omission intended to result in human remains being less likely to be found. Now, in a press conference, detective Darren Fielke has revealed that Story's head is still missing. Speaking to reporters, detective Fielke said it was 'crucial' that Story's head was returned to his family so they could hold a funeral, Australia's ABC reported. However, he added: 'We have not recovered the head of Julian Story.' CCTV images and video released by police appears to show Chesser walking three dogs and carrying a bag while seemingly wearing a hijab-style head covering. Detective Fielke is appealing for information to help track the 34-year-old's movements during the week of the alleged murder. A spokesperson for Mr Story's family thanked police and first responders for their 'compassion and professionalism during this devastating time', MailOnline reported. 'We are navigating an unimaginable loss, and your care has brought comfort amid the chaos,' the spokesperson said. 'We are also deeply grateful to our family and friends and this extraordinary community whose kindness and support have helped carry us through. Your prayers, presence, and quiet strength mean more than words can say.' According to official documents obtained by ABC, on the day of Chesser's arrest on June 19, a neighbour noticed black smoke coming from her property at roughly 1.30pm. After asking Chesser, who appeared outside, what she was doing, she said 'nothing' before taking her dogs for a walk. The neighbour then became concerned and took a bucket of water to try and put out the fire in the home. When he entered the home, he's said to have found a bundle of clothing rags and debris. Later, when police entered the home after firefighters extinguished the small fire, Story's 'severely burned and disfigured' remains were found. Chesser was apparently 'catatonic and unresponsive' as she sat in a garden chair in the rear yard after police entered the property. More Trending Police are alleging that Chesser murdered Story at roughly midnight on June 17. Chesser was refused bail in court last week and a committal hearing has been scheduled for December. The 34-year-old was the runner-up on the 2010 season of Beauty and the Geek Australia. View More » She also went on to model for a number of men's magazines, including Playboy, Ralph and FHM. Lucy Letby's life behind bars revealed – from £33-a-week to spend on chocolate & TWICE as many visits as other prisoners

The former nurse can also receive twice as many visits as other prisoners, after being fast-tracked from standard status. She is now imprisoned in unit four of the only purpose-built private prison in the UK - HMP Bronzefield. Now an enhanced prisoner, Letby is given £33 a week to spend in the prison canteen where regular prisoners are only given £19.80. Some prisoners are bumped down to basic status as a punishment, which gives them only £5.50 per week. All prisoners are given status reviews every 28 days, but Letby has retained her enhanced position throughout her time at HMP Bronzefiled. A source told the MailOnline that the killer nurse was upgraded because of fears that she may be attacked by other inmates. The source said: 'Lucy is reserved and very quiet, she isn't really a problem with staff. 'It grates with officers though - she's committed the worst crimes possible and here she is on the enhanced unit with all the benefits that come with it. 'Again the real reason she is here is safety, she would be attacked on any other unit.' Letby reportedly has shared a cell with a former prison officer who was jailed after having sex with an inmate. I defend baby killers like Lucy Letby – bombshell new theory could FREE her but I know real truth… & it's NOT medical Linda De Sousa Abreu, Letby's cell mate, was fast-tracked to privileged status for her own protection since she is a former guard. Abreu worked at the famous prison HMP Wandsworth in London. Letby has been in police custody since November 2020 and was handed a 'whole life order' in August 2023. The inmate is the fourth woman in British history to be given no hope for parole after committing her string of chilling murders. Letby has been found to have targeted 17 babies whilst at large between June 2015 and June 2016. Her first confirmed victim was a boy born in June 2015, who, despite being born prematurely, was described as being "stable". Letby came on shift at 7.30pm that same day and, by 8.26pm, the boy's condition was "deteriorating rapidly". He died twenty minutes later after air was deliberately injected into his bloodstream. That boy's twin sister became ill just 28 hours later after "purple blotches" broke out across her body - symptoms shared with her brother. Thankfully, that baby survived. 5 Some have cast doubt on Lucy Letby's conviction Credit: Reuters However, another two babies died under the nurse's care that same month - one of which ingested air and the other being killed when air was injected into her bloodstream. More babies - including one in on 4 August and another on October 23 - died from incidents involving air while at Letby's hospital. Finally, Letby was found to have killed two more babies on June 23 and 24 2016. The killer nurse was arrested on July 3, 2018, and faced a three-year court battle before finally being jailed for life. She had been working at the Countess of Chester Hospital while at large. Despite her conviction, Letby insists that she is innocent and several high profile politicians have called for her case to be re-examined. Former health secretary Jeremy Hunt said that, although the victim's family must be at the 'forefront' of politician's minds, there is 'doubt on what actually happened'. He added: 'They are not conspiracy theories dredged up from far-flung reaches of the internet.' The former health secretary and Tory chancellor said that 14 paediatric specialists ruled that the deaths of the babies had been down to natural causes.
