First-Time Nominee Cooper Koch Is 'Devastated' Over Emmy Snubs for Two of His ‘Monsters' Co-Stars
'I talked to Ari; I'm devastated that she didn't get it,' Koch tells The Hollywood Reporter. 'That's the one sort of bummer from today that she didn't get it. Same thing with Nicholas. I think both of them really deserved to be on there, so I'm super bummed that they didn't get nominated.'

Chavez portrayed Lyle Menendez in the Netflix series and Graynor played Erik's lead defense attorney, Leslie Abramson. Despite the snubs for the two stars, Monsters did receive additional nods in the acting categories by way of Chloë Sevigny, who was nominated for best supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie for her role as matriarch Mary Louise 'Kitty' Menendez, and Javier Bardem for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Jose Menendez.
'Chloë and I FaceTimed, and she congratulated me, and I congratulated her,' says Koch, who continued to sing the praises of his co-stars. 'I could not have done it without any of them. They were the most wonderful scene partners, and they're such gifted actors. I owe all of my work and the scenes and everything that came out to them.'
As he gears up for Emmy campaigning, Koch, 28, says he's hoping for less attention on him and more on the Menendez brothers, who, as a result of renewed public interest in their case stemming from the series, were resentenced to 50 years to life in prison in May, making them now eligible for parole.
'We're still sort of living with what's happening in real time with their case. They go to the parole board on Aug. 21st and Aug. 22nd, so I'm just hoping that I can talk more about and advocate for them,' says Koch. 'I'm like, screw myself. I just want to get them out of prison.'
That said, Koch is looking forward to seeing some of the talented actors he's admired from behind the screen in real life on the trail, calling out White Lotus star and fellow first-time Emmy nominee Aimee Lou Wood in particular.
'I love her, and I loved her in White Lotus. I can't wait to give her a giant hug. I feel like I already know her,' he says, also noting Only Murders in the Building and Severance as his other top shows.
'I'm a big Severance fan, and I've just been so impressed with Adam Scott and Britt Lower for both seasons of the show,' he says. 'I'm such huge fans of theirs, and I had such a great chat with Adam at The Hollywood Reporter Roundtable. He's such a wonderful guy and such an amazing talent, so I'm really, really rooting for him.'
Nominations for the 77th Emmy Awards were presented by Harvey Guillén and Brenda Song at a ceremony held on Tuesday, July 15. Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story received a total of 11 noms, including best limited or anthology series, along with three in the technical categories of picture editing, sound mixing and musical composition, and an additional four nods for best period or fantasy/sci-fi hairstyling and makeup (non-prosthetic), period costumes and casting for a limited or anthology series.
The 77th Emmy Awards will be hosted by Nate Bargatze and broadcast live Sunday, Sept. 14, (8-11 p.m. ET/5-8 p.m. PT) on the CBS Television Network and available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+. See the full list of nominees here.

She also teased that she's "very excited" to dive into the role first brought to life on TV by Angela Lansbury. The mystery of who will star in the lead role of a Murder, She Wrote film adaptation has been solved. When asked point-blank what the chances are that fans could see her pick up the mantel of Jessica Fletcher, the mystery writer and amateur detective first brought to life by the late Angela Lansbury in the long-running CBS series of the same name, Jamie Lee Curtis didn't hold back. "Oh, it's… happening," Curtis playfully confirmed to Entertainment Tonight at the world premiere of Freakier Friday. "We're a minute away, but yeah, [I'm] very excited. Very excited. But I'm tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I'll get to enjoy that work." Deadline first reported in December that the Oscar winner was in talks to star in a Murder, She Wrote film at Universal written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, with producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Previously, in October 2013, it was reported that NBC was planning a reboot of the series, but by January 2014 it was revealed that it was not moving forward. The original Murder, She Wrote, which ran for 12 seasons from 1984 to 1996, focused on Lansbury's Jessica Fletcher, who became embroiled in various murder cases that took place in the fictional town of Cabot Cove, Maine, as well as other locales around the globe. Created by Peter S. Fischer, Richard Levinson and William Link, the crime drama also starred Tom Bosley, William Windom and Ron Masak. Considered one of the most successful and long-running series in history, Murder, She Wrote was a hit with the industry and public alike. At the height of its popularity, it averaged 30 million viewers per week, according to the L.A. Times. Though she never won, the role earned Lansbury a whopping 12 Emmy nominations for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The update from Curtis is a positive one for the reboot. As she alluded to, though, Curtis has much on her plate at the moment before she can pick up a magnifying glass. First up for the star is reprising her role of Tess Coleman in Freakier Friday, the sequel to the beloved 2003 film starring Lindsay December, she'll be seen in James L. Brooks' dramedy film Ella McCay alongside Emma Mackey, Woody Harrelson, Kumail Nanjiani, Spike Fearn, Ayo Edebiri, Jack Lowden, Rebecca Hall, Julie Kavner, Becky Ann Baker, Joey Brooks, and Albert Brooks. Sex trafficking warrant served at L.A. home owned by alleged ‘TikTok Cult' pastor
A large operation was seen unfolding in Tujunga on Friday morning when federal and local law enforcement served a search warrant for alleged sex trafficking at a home owned by a controversial pastor and subject of the Netflix docuseries 'Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult.' El Monte Police Department officials confirmed to KTLA that authorities served the search warrant around 6 a.m. at a home located at 7744 McGroarty St. In addition to sex trafficking, the warrant was also issued for allegations of tax evasion, mail fraud, money laundering and COVID-19 pandemic-related accusations, which were not specified by law enforcement. Sky5 was overhead around 6:45 a.m., when FBI personnel were seen investigating the large residence and speaking with people at the scene, including possible victims or witnesses. At least six people were seen detained with handcuffs, including an older woman who, unlike the other detainees on the ground, was sitting in a chair with her legs covered under a blanket. Another woman was seen sitting on an outdoor couch, wiping her eyes while clutching a child wrapped in a blanket on her lap. Police did not immediately say whether anyone was arrested during the service of this warrant. A property records search for the home listed six current owners, including Robert Shinn, who was the subject of Netflix's 'Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult.' A source involved in the series confirmed to KTLA that the property involved in this search warrant was the same property at the center of the series. The Los Angeles Times reported that Shinn, founder of and pastor for Shekinah Church, also founded a company called 7M Films in 2021 'to help social media stars and TikTok dancers find jobs in L.A.' The 2024 miniseries examines the story, lawsuits and abusive cult allegations surrounding the Shekinah Church and 7M Films. The media focus was largely brought forth by two different sets of sisters who worked with Shinn: influencers Melanie Wilking and Miranda Derrick (formerly Wilking), and Melanie and Priscylla Lee. A summary from a 2024 Time article described the series as revealing 'claims from multiple former 7M members about how Shinn abused and manipulated them and created a cult-like environment.' No sexual assault charges were brought against him. Although Shinn did not personally reply to the Netflix series, the L.A. Times noted that his company, 7M, replied through an Instagram post calling the docuseries a 'slanderous work of fiction, born from a failed extortion attempt.' The post concluded by saying, 'We will continue to pursue all legal remedies available to stop the spread of salacious lies and expect to be fully vindicated in court.' According to CNN, Shinn filed a defamation suit against several former church members, claiming they made 'false statements' referring to his organization as a cult, and that they launched a campaign to 'cancel' him. The defendants then joined a cross-complaint with other former church members, claiming Shinn, his wife and others of 'fraud, forced labor and human trafficking, as well as Robert of sexual battery.' In addition, the L.A. Times reported that this countersuit against Shinn alleges 'brainwashing, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, manipulation and exploitation.' The case was scheduled to go to trial on July 7 in Los Angeles, however, the defendants' attorney group has since confirmed to KTLA that the trial is now set to begin on October 27. 'Regarding the search warrant, we are gratified that the federal government is investigating Robert Shinn and look forward to our clients and his victims receiving the justice they deserve,' stated a partner with Brown Neri Smith & Khan, LLP. Authorities did not state any connections between Friday's search warrant operation and the docuseries controversy.
