QIB named Islamic bank of the year in Middle East by The Banker

Qatar Islamic Bank has been named Islamic Bank of the Year in the Middle East by The Banker (Financial Times Group) at The Islamic Banking Awards 2025. The recognition reflects QIB's leadership in Islamic finance, its continued investment in innovation, and its focus on delivering secure, Shari'a-compliant financial solutions across the region.
The award comes as QIB continues to strengthen its position as one of the most efficient and digitally advanced Islamic banks in the region. In the first quarter of 2025, QIB reported a net profit of QAR 985 million, a 3.1% increase over the same period last year. Total assets grew to QAR 212 billion, while the Bank maintained a cost-to-income ratio of 16.6%, the best in the Qatari banking sector. QIB also continued to demonstrate prudent risk management, with a non-performing financing assets ratio of 1.76% and a financing-to-deposit ratio well within regulatory limits.
QIB's financial strength continues to be recognized by international rating agencies. In 2024, Fitch Ratings affirmed QIB's rating at 'A' with a stable outlook, Moody's affirmed the Bank's long-term deposit ratings at 'A1' with a stable outlook, and Capital Intelligence Ratings affirmed the Bank's long-term rating at 'AA-' with a stable outlook.
Over the past years, the Bank introduced several first-to-market innovations that have simplified banking for customers. Key milestones include real-time digital onboarding for new customers, and instant personal financing through the QIB Mobile App, which is now offering over 300 features and a refined user experience.
The Bank has introduced new innovations beyond banking including the QIB Marketplace providing a diverse range of products and including a section for local SMEs to display & sell products. QIB has also introduced the first Auto Marketplace in Qatar, also within its mobile app, enabling customers to browse, book a test drive, select and finance vehicles online.

Following the meeting, Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs HE Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi stated the following: At the outset of the meeting, the Cabinet extended sincere greetings to HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, asking Allah Almighty to return this blessed occasion for His Highness with the best of health and wellness, and for the State of Qatar and its people further development and prosperity under the wise leadership of HH the Amir, as well as the Arab and Islamic nations with goodness and blessings. The Cabinet reviewed the topics on its agenda, noting the Shura Council's approval of a draft law extending the concession granted to Mowasalat (Karwa), a Qatari joint stock company, to manage and operate taxis. The Cabinet approved a draft agreement on mutual administrative assistance for the optimal application of customs law and for the suppression, investigation and combating of customs violations between the governments of the State of Qatar and the Republic of Tunisia. The Cabinet also approved a draft memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Interior of the State of Qatar and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the United States of America regarding security cooperation, a draft memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Interior of the State of Qatar and the Department of Homeland Security in the United States of America regarding the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and a draft memorandum of understanding in the field of law enforcement between the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) in the State of Qatar and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation. The Cabinet approved a draft memorandum of understanding for cooperation in legal fields between the Ministry of Justice in the State of Qatar and the Ministry of Justice in the Republic of Albania, a draft memorandum of understanding on joint cooperation between the Public Prosecution in the State of Qatar and the Public Prosecution in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and a draft memorandum of understanding in the field of cultural heritage preservation between the Qatar Museums in the State of Qatar and the Hong Kong Palace Museum in Hong Kong, People's Republic of China. The Cabinet's meeting concluded with a review of the reports of the Grievances Committee of the Qatar Financial Markets Authority on grievances that the committee considered from 01/07/2023-31/12/2023, and from 01/01/2024 to 30/6/2024, and a report on the results of the participation of the delegation of the State of Qatar, headed by HE Minister of Social Development and Family, in the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York in March 2025.

Qatar Airways announces QR4.5 billion loan facility with leading Qatari banks

DOHA: For the first time in 28 years, Qatar Airways has signed a landmark agreement with leading local Qatari banks, led by Qatar National Bank (QNB), to secure QR4.5 billion in strategic financing. According to a statement from Qatar Airways, the financing will be provided by domestic banks in Qatar. The syndication was fully underwritten and led by QNB Group as the sole and exclusive Book Runner, Global Coordinator, Initial Mandated Lead Arranger and Structuring Bank, while the lending banks include Ahlibank, Commercial Bank, Doha Bank, Dukhan Bank, Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB), and Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB). This new agreement will see an innovative approach taken whereby local banks lend in Qatari Riyals in both conventional and Islamic tranches and commercial terms in line with international benchmarks for a strategic financing transaction of this nature. Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Eng Badr Mohammed Al Meer, said: "Qatar Airways'latest purpose-driven partnership demonstrates our trust in the operational excellence of the Qatari banking sector. Tribune News Network Doha Qatar Chamber Director General Ali Boushraibek Al Mansouri received today at the Chamber's headquarters a delegation from the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in Pakistan, headed by its President,Ikram ul Haq. The Pakistani delegation includedMuhammad Imtiaz Khan, Executive Director of Med Ask, a healthcare company; Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, CEO of DRM Pharma & Diagnostic; andKhawaja Masood Akhtar, Chairman of Forward Group, a leading manufacturer and exporter of footballs. During the meeting, the two sides discussed avenues for enhancing trade and economic cooperation between Qatar and Pakistan. Discussions also focused on strengthening institutional collaboration between the Qatar Chamber and the Sialkot Chamber to support private sector engagement and boost bilateral trade and investment. Al Mansouri praised the close relations between the two countries, particularly in trade and economic fields. He noted that the total volume of trade exchange reached approximately QAR 12.7 billion in 2024, with QAR 12.2 billion representing Qatari exports primarily petroleum gases and gaseous hydrocarbons while imports from Pakistan amounted to about QAR 500 million. He also highlighted the presence of more than 2,000 Pakistani companies registered with the Qatar Chamber, operating in partnership with Qatari firms, in addition to 37 companies that are fully Pakistani-owned. He affirmed that the Qatari market remains open and welcoming to more Pakistani investors. Ikram ul Haq expressed appreciation for the strong bilateral relations and emphasized that the delegation includes key representatives from Pakistan's healthcare and sports manufacturing sectors, who are keen to forge strategic alliances with Qatari businesses. Muhammad Imtiaz Khan highlighted the diverse investment opportunities available in Sialkot, particularly in the healthcare sector. He noted that Pakistani firms are eager to collaborate with Qatari counterparts in establishing joint ventures in hospitals, pharmacies, and medical laboratories. Khawaja Masood Akhtar remarked that his company manufactured the footballs used during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and is currently producing footballs for the 2026 tournament. He expressed interest in building partnerships with Qatari companies to further expand their international presence.
