Effective August 2023 and enforceable as of January 2025, drivers must use Bluetooth or voice commands. It's a secondary offense, meaning police can only ticket you if you're pulled over for another violation. Fines range from $150 for a first offense to $500 for repeated violations within 24 months, with harsher penalties in school zones or if injury or death occurs. Serious legal consequences can follow if texting contributes to harm while driving.
