New Delhi, Aug 20 (PTI) A 36-year-old man died after the SUV he was travelling in rammed into a stationary truck on Mathura Road in southeast Delhi's Sarita Vihar in the early hours of Wednesday, police said.
According to officials, the incident took place around 1.45 am when a Jeep Meridian (SUV) collided with a stationary truck parked on the main road. The impact of the collision was severe, causing critical injuries to one of the occupants of the jeep.
Police said they received a call regarding the accident at around 2.20 am, following which the investigating officer along with staff rushed to the spot.

'On reaching the location, the team found the damaged SUV and the truck. One occupant of the jeep, identified as Satbir Singh, was found critically injured. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead during treatment," a senior police officer said.
The deceased was a resident of Madhu Vihar and worked as a driver. Rekha Gupta Attacked: Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai Sakriya, the man who allegedly attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during a public hearing on Wednesday, has been involved in at least five different criminal cases in Gujarat. As per Sakriya's dossier accessed by CNN-News18, all five cases were lodged at Bhaktinagar Police Station in Rajkot from 2019-2024. He has been acquitted and released in four cases, while one case is pending before the Second Additional Civil Judge and JMFC Court. Details Of Previous Cases 1. Bhaktinagar Police Station, FIR No. 0215/2017, IPC sections 326, 504, 114: On 25/11/2019, acquitted and released as per Case No. 198/2018 by the Eighth Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Rajkot. Section 326 deals with voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means. Section 504 covers intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, while Section 114 addresses the situation where an abettor is present when an offense is committed. 2. Bhaktinagar Police Station, FIR No. 1227/2020, Prohibition Act sections 65AA, 116B: On 03/11/2023, acquitted and released as per Case No. 21965/2020 by the Third Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Rajkot. Sections 65AA and 116B are part of the Bombay Prohibition Act, 1949, which applies to Gujarat. Rekha Gupta Attacked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was attacked during a public grievance hearing on Wednesday morning at her residence in Civil Lines in the national capital. The incident occurred during CM Gupta's weekly 'Jan Sunwai' at her residence, where citizens come to present grievances. The Delhi Police, examining the CCTV footage of the attack, found that the assault and the intervention by the security lasted 80 seconds, sources told CNN-News18. Sakriya was standing in a queue to meet the Chief Minister and had nearly five people before him. He suddenly breached the queue and approached Gupta with the documents he was carrying. Sakriya first slapped her, it was known, after which she stumbled against a wall. The accused then grabbed the Chief Minister by her hair, sources informed. Soon after, the accused was taken over by the Chief Minister's security staff and others present at the location. The police also registered an attempt to murder case against the accused for attacking the Delhi Chief Minister. Meanwhile, the mother of the accused alleged that his son travelled to the national capital to speak to the Chief Minister over the issue of stray dogs, adding that the accused is an animal lover. Delhi Police register attempt to murder case against accused after attack on CM Rekha Gupta

An FIR has been launched against the accused behind the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her official residence in Civil Lines area during a 'Jan Sunwai' programme. 'Further investigation is going on. We are investigating it from all the possible angles,' said Delhi Police.(PTI) The case has been lodged under Section 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been lodged at Civil Lines police station, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia said. Soon after the attack, the police arrested the accused, Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, a 41-year-old resident of Rajkot in Gujarat. He is being jointly interrogated by the IB and Delhi Police's Special Cell, a senior police officer said. "We are doing a joint interrogation with the IB, Special Cell and intelligence agencies. He had five criminal cases, including two assault cases involving knife attack and three under Excise Act," a Delhi Police official told PTI. 'The officer said that the accused, identified as Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, has been taken into custody and is being interrogated,' Banthia said. What had happened? Delhi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unit on Wednesday said that 'a mishap' happened while chief minister Rekha Gupta was in the middle of a 'Jan Sunwai' programme at her camp office in Delhi's civil lines. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said the incident involved a man trying to pull the CM's hand, which led to some jostling during which 'maybe her head touched the edge of a table "a little'. The BJP leaders further said that she was examined by doctors and was stable. Talking to reporters after meeting the CM, Sachdeva said that CM Gupta is "shaken", but she is doing fine. The security personnel present at the even, reportedly overpowered the attacker and took him into custody. The ruling BJP as well as the opposition condemnded the incident. AAP leader Atishi condemned the incident and hoped the chief minister was safe and the police will take strong action against the guilty. Police sources, meanwhile, said that the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is likely to review the security arrangements of CM Gupta after a detailed report of the incident is submitted by the police. CM Rekha Gupta has been provided 'Z' category security by Delhi Police. This is as per security guidelines of the MHA outlined in the 'Yellow Book', which details protection protocols for VIPs and VVIPs.

Accused identified According to ANI, the attacker is a 35-year-old man from Rajkot, Gujarat, who reportedly came to the Jan Sunwai seeking the release of a relative lodged in prison.
