Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Issues? It Might Just Be Your HDMI Cable

CNET03-07-2025
As the Switch 2 continues to sell in the millions for Nintendo, it shouldn't be a surprise that there'd be some issues with the console. It appears, however, that one problem Switch 2 owners are facing is actually just a matter of using the wrong cable.
Reddit users have posted about their Joy-Cons disconnecting when they're playing on their Switch 2 while it's docked, an issue spotted earlier by IGN. It does appear that, luckily, the issue can be resolved by using the included HDMI cable for the Switch 2 rather than an older, slower one -- including the cable that came with the original Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo laid out the solution on its support page for when the Joy-Con 2 starts disconnecting from the console:
Confirm that you're using an "Ultra High Speed" HDMI cable to connect the dock to the TV. If it's not Ultra High Speed, your console won't perform as expected when docked.
If you're using a different cable than the one that came with the console, it should have printed on the cable that it's "Ultra High Speed."
The HDMI cable that came with the Nintendo Switch is not "Ultra High Speed" and should not be used with the Nintendo Switch 2 dock.
Nintendo didn't immediately respond to a request for comment about the source of this issue.
Since the Switch 2 launch, many gamers have come to realize that Nintendo's new console is very picky about what cables are connected to it. This goes for the HDMI cable as well as the power cable.
While the new and old Switch share the same name, they don't share the same components. The Switch 2 is a huge upgrade in graphics power over the 2017 console, which means it needs the appropriate power supply. Not providing the Switch 2 with sufficient power could likely cause some issues, especially if the system has to do a lot of work to run a game.

Electronic Arts blocks more than 300,000 attempts to cheat after launching Battlefield 6 beta

Games giant Electronic Arts launched an open beta over the weekend for its upcoming first-person shooter Battlefield 6 and — almost immediately — the game was swamped with cheaters. Soon after the game's launch, countless players complained online about encountering cheaters. In response, a member of Electronic Arts' anti-cheat team, who goes by AC, wrote in an official forum that the company saw players report 104,000 'instances of potential cheaters' over the first two days of the game's being online, and that it stopped 330,000 'attempts to cheat or tamper with anti-cheat controls.' Like many videogames today, such as Valorant, Electronic Arts uses a kernel-level anti-cheat system called Javelin, which means the system has the highest possible privileges on the computer. This allows it to monitor everything that happens on the machine with the goal of catching cheats, which are often running in the background and disguised as some other program. In their post, AC admitted that this system is not a guarantee that there will be no cheaters. AC also referred to the fact that the game enforces Secure Boot, a Windows hardware-based security feature. 'On Secure Boot, I want to be clear that Secure Boot is not, and was not intended to be a silver bullet,' AC wrote. 'Secure Boot is how you're helping us build up our arsenal. It's another barrier that helps us make it harder for cheat developers to create cheat programs, and makes it easier for us to detect it when they do.' 'Anti-Cheat isn't one and done, it's an ever evolving battlefield, and what has worked for us previously or in different games doesn't always work in all of them,' AC added. An Electronic Arts spokesperson told TechCrunch that the company has no updated information on the numbers of players who were banned. San Francisco | REGISTER NOW Cheaters or game hackers are a problem for every online video game. In recent times, companies like Riot Games, makers of Valorant, and Activision, the makers of the Call of Duty series, among others, have launched kernel-level anti-cheat systems. Philippe Koskinas, the director and head of anti-cheat for Riot Games, told TechCrunch earlier this year, there are several ways in which his anti-cheat system goes after cheaters, as well as cheat makers and sellers. Those include banning cheaters, taking advantage of Windows' own security features to limit where cheats can run, fingerprinting cheaters' hardware so they can't just create a new fresh account to cheat with, and even infiltrating cheat communities on Discord or Telegram.

This magnetic charger brings the conveniences of wireless charging to the iPad

Apple still hasn't brought wireless charging to the iPad, but Kuxiu's new charger brings similar functionality and convenience to the iPad Pro and iPad Air. Like wireless chargers for the iPhone, the M30 magnetically attaches to the back of supported iPad models, but instead of transferring power through wire coils and induction, it uses the same Smart Connector pins that iPad accessories like the Magic Keyboard rely on. The M30 Magnetic Smart Connector Charger is available now through Kuxiu's website for $39.99 and is compatible with iPad models that feature, and can charge through, the Smart Connector on the back. These include the M4 iPad Pros as well as many versions of the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, plus the M3 and M2-powered 11-inch iPad Air and 4th and 5th-gen versions of the 10.9-inch Air. In addition to potentially being easier to pop on and off the iPad than plugging in a USB cable, the M30 charger also frees up the tablet's lone USB-C port. When traveling, I frequently connect an iPad Pro to a hotel TV over USB-C to watch Netflix and Disney Plus, but that typically requires the use of a hub for connecting both an HDMI cable and power cord to the iPad's USB-C port at the same time. The M30 removes the need for a hub, assuming you just need to connect a single accessory, like an external drive. The M30 will also charge certain iPad models faster than even the new Qi2.2 wireless charging standard can. Supported iPad models using Apple's M2 and M3 chips will charge at up to 18W, but those with an M4 chip can charge at 35W speeds. For comparison, the iPhone 16 lineup can be wirelessly charged at up to 25W speeds using the new version of the MagSafe charging puck that Apple introduced in September. ‘You are ChatGPT': Leaked system prompt reveals the inner workings of GPT-5

What's happened? A supposed GPT-5 system prompt leaked via Reddit and GitHub this weekend. The prompt reveals the exact rules given to ChatGPT for interacting with users and carrying out various tasks. A Reddit user claims to have discovered the 'verbatim system prompt and tooling info' for GPT-5, OpenAI's latest large language model (LLM). The entirety of the prompt also appeared on GitHub one day earlier. The prompt starts with the words: 'You are ChatGPT, a large language model based on the GPT-5 model and trained by OpenAI.' It then goes on to specify the knowledge cutoff for GPT-5, which is said to be 2024-06. The personality is listed as 'v2,' correctly implying that ChatGPT has gone through some personality changes over time. The commands give a lot of insight as to the type of responses ChatGPT is now allowed to offer, and show how the company tries to shape One notable change orders GPT-5 not to say the following: 'Would you like me to; want me to do that; do you want me to; if you want, I can; let me know if you would like me to; should I; shall I.' Although both sources claim the system prompt is 100% real, users of Hacker News question its authenticity and reproducibility, noting that decoy/canary prompts are possible. This is important because: If real, the text offers a rare look at how ChatGPT is steered; if fake, it shows how easy it is to seed 'leaks' that look plausible. System prompts shape tone, safety behavior, and tool use. Leaks can inform jailbreak attempts, but most of all, they give us insight into the inner workings of LLMs. These changes could go a long way in making GPT-5 easier to use. There are also mentions of automation tools, such as creating daily tasks. However, OpenAI's launch materials emphasize GPT-5's router/reasoning stack, not any single static script, undermining the idea of one canonical prompt. Recommended Videos Why should I care? Knowing the exact content of the system prompt gives the user a lot of insight into the kind of data GPT-5 uses and how it responds to it. The rumored system prompt shows some changes made by OpenAI that affect the way GPT-5 communicates. This includes: 'If the next step is obvious, do it,' and 'Ask at most one necessary clarifying question at the start, not at the end.' There are also lengthy guidelines about generating images, including images of yourself. Authenticity is unproven; the gist could be partial, stale, or intentionally seeded. Okay, what's next? Expect OpenAI docs and system files to keep updating. Even if this system prompt is real, chances are that it changes with each and every version of the model, and perhaps with each and every small update pushed to the LLM. OpenAI has not published or confirmed any system prompt; official GPT-5 materials describe a routed system, not one static script.
