Emma Foster: Police name woman, 29, killed in Highlands crash
A woman who died in a crash on the A9 in the Highlands has been named by Foster, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident, near Invergordon, at about 02:00 on one else was injured in the crash, which involved a white Kia Sportage, and an investigation is Kate Finlayson said Ms Foster's family were being supported by specialist officers. Police impose conditions on asylum hotel protest
Police have imposed conditions on a protest against the use of a hotel to accommodate asylum seekers. The Metropolitan Police said there would be an 'increased police presence' for a protest and counter protest outside the Thistle City Barbican Hotel in Islington, north London, on Saturday. A protest and counter protest will take place in Newcastle outside The New Bridge Hotel on Saturday. The Metropolitan Police said the protest against the use of the Islington hotel was organised by local residents under the banner 'Thistle Barbican needs to go – locals say no'. A counter protest, organised by Stand Up To Racism and supported by former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, as well as other groups including Finsbury Park Mosque and Islington Labour Party, will also take place. Police said the anti-asylum hotel protest had been 'endorsed by groups from outside the local community which is likely to increase the number of people attending'. Online groups that have voiced support for the protest include 'Patriots of Britain' and 'Together for the Children'. The Metropolitan Police said plans were in place to 'respond to any protest activity in the vicinity of other hotels in London being used to accommodate asylum seekers'. Conditions on the anti-asylum hotel protest include that anyone participating must remain within King Charles Square and that the assembly must not begin before 1pm and must conclude by 4pm. Police said conditions on the counter protest include that participants must remain in Lever Street, near the junction with Central Street, and that the assembly must not begin before 12pm and must conclude by 4pm. Chief Superintendent Clair Haynes, in charge of the policing operation, said: 'We have been in discussions with the organisers of both protests in recent days, building on the ongoing engagement between local officers, community groups and partners. 'We understand that there are strongly held views on all sides. 'Our officers will police without fear or favour, ensuring those exercising their right to protest can do so safely but intervening at the first sign of actions that cross the line into criminality. 'We have used our powers under the Public Order Act to put conditions in place to prevent serious disorder and to minimise serious disruption to the lives of people and businesses in the local community. 'Those conditions identify two distinct protest areas where the protests must take place, meaning the groups will be separated but still within sight and sound of each other.' There are also posts online advertising a 'for our children, for our future' protest in Newcastle on Saturday outside The New Bridge Hotel. A 'stop the far right and fascists in Newcastle' counter protest has been organised by Stand Up To Racism at the nearby Laing Art Gallery. In a statement, the organisers of the counter protest said: 'Yet again far-right and fascist thugs are intent on bringing their message of hate to Newcastle. They aim to build on years of Islamophobia, anti-migrant sentiment and scapegoating. 'In Epping and elsewhere recently we have already seen intimidation and violence aimed at refugees, migrants and asylum seekers. 'Newcastle, like the rest of the North East, has a well-earned reputation for unity in the face of those who seek to divide us. Whatever problems we face, racism and division are not the answer.'

A woman in her 60s has been found dead at the same seaside beauty spot where a couple fell to their deaths the day before. Her body was discovered below the cliffs at Whitby Abbey by a member of the public at 12.53pm on Thursday, July 31. The day before, a couple, believed to be aged in their 40s, were seen heading towards the cliffs on a path on the North Yorkshire coast. Their bodies were recovered from the rocks below the 180ft cliffs on Wednesday evening following the apparent suicide pact. Police, ambulance, coastguard, mountain rescue and lifeboat teams were called after reports of the the third death, which is believed to have involved a fall from the cliff. Due to the rocky location and high tide, mountain rescue assisted in recovering the woman's body to the lifeboat before being taken to the lifeboat house. North Yorkshire Police are not linking this latest death, which is not believed to be suspicious, to the alleged double suicide, which the force continue to investigate. The area beside the historic 7th-century Abbey, which sits on the clifftop over the historic fishing port of Whitby, has been busy with people setting up for a vintage steam engine rally. The couple had been strolling along the cliff too path and had greeted fellow walkers before sneaking through a gap in a safety fence. Shocked witnesses recalled seeing the pair stride up to the cliff edge, before falling to their deaths. They then claim to have seen them turn to face the sea before jumping off and falling to their deaths. A member of the public alerted the police at 7.16pm after spotting a man and woman on the rocks below. The coastguard scrambled to recover their bodies while the tide was rapidly coming in, as mountain rescue teams went down the cliff on ropes to get to them. Their bodies were airlifted from the cliffs at 8.24pm before they were taken to hospital by paramedics. Brian Vickers, 63, was camping on the cliff nearby when 'all hell broke loose'. 'Police, ambulances, and mountain rescue and coastguard helicopters were on the scene very quickly,' he said. 'The helicopter was here around 8pm on Wednesday night. The path leading to the cliff was extremely busy with walkers and dog walkers. 'I was told the couple who died were walking along the path. Another couple were coming the other way. 'The next thing we know is they jumped. It was absolutely horrific to see. The poor souls did not stand a chance. They fell straight onto the rocks below. 'The coastguard helicopter arrived in an hour and we witnessed the horrific scene of them being winched from the beach to waiting ambulances on the cliff top. 'The police told me they were searching for their car nearby but had not found it yet. The whole thing was over and everyone had gone by 11pm.' Another rally attendee said: 'People were saying that the couple had been saying "hello" to walkers, as you do, and looked to be enjoying a nice evening walk before they jumped off.
