Jimmy Kimmel irate over Colbert cancellation, criticizes CBS ending 'Late Show'
The entertainment world is reacting in shock to CBS canceling its late night talk show "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert." After Colbert announced the news on his show late Thursday, July 17, Hollywood expressed confusion around the move and support for Colbert, who will be leaving his post after more than a decade at "The Late Show" in 2026. Jimmy Kimmel, a longtime friend of Colbert, reshared the comedian's announcement on his Instagram stories, and the "Jimmy Kimmel Live" host didn't hold back in his reaction. "Love you Stephen," Kimmel wrote, going on to seemingly mock the network for favoring safe sitcoms with a choice expletive. "(Forget) you and all your Sheldons CBS." 'Late Show with Stephen Colbert' to end next May: 'This is all just going away' Actor and producer Ben Stiller, a regular guest on Colbert's show, tweeted: "Sorry to hear @CBS is canceling one of the best shows they have. Wishing all the people who work so hard on that show all the best." And in the comments of Colbert's announcement on Instagram, stars including Adam Scott, Katie Couric and Jon Batiste shared support. "Love you Stephen," replied Scott. "I for one am looking forward to the next 10 months of shows." Couric, a former "CBS Evening News" anchor, inquired for more details. "I am so upset about this. I need more information. We love you." Stephen Colbert announces end of 'The Late Show.' See what he said. In a statement from Paramount Global, CBS' parent company, the company called the move "purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show's performance, content, or other matters happening at Paramount." Paramount Global agreed on July 1 to a controversial $16 million settlement with President Donald Trump over a defamation lawsuit tied to a "60 Minutes" interview with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. The settlement was widely criticized as a financial concession to facilitate the studio's pending sale to Skydance Media, which requires regulatory approval from the Trump administration. Another regular "Late Show" guest, Batiste, shared kind words: "The greatest to ever do it." As did Judd Apatow. "My admiration and appreciation for you is bottomless," the director wrote. "Excited to see what other brilliance you put into the world." Contributing: Bryan Alexander

Hearts Melt As Dog Teaches Mini Golden Doodle To Swim 'Just Like Her'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The heartwarming moment a goldendoodle became an adorable swimming coach to a puppy friend has delighted the internet in a viral video. Jade, 30, from London, shared the moment her dog, Isla, and her parents' puppy, Luna, enjoyed a swim in the pool. "We spend every weekend in Surrey at my parents house, and since she was 4 months old, Isla has been teaching Luna to swim," Jade, who didn't share her surname, told Newsweek. The bond between Luna and Isla is clear as the pair jump into the pool together, with Isla leading the way. The swim lessons have paid off too, with Luna now confidently diving into the water on her own. "Luna now launches herself off the steps and takes herself for a swim," Jade said. "She gets very jealous if we are in the pool too and she wants to join." Pictures of Isla and the puppy Luna enjoying the pool together. Pictures of Isla and the puppy Luna enjoying the pool together. @isladoodlebear/Instagram Their adventures aren't limited to Surrey. Luna often visits Jade in London, where the pair continue their splashy escapades around the capital. "They swim in the lakes around south west they love it. Best of friends," she said. Both dogs are miniature golden doodles, a mix of Golden Retriever and Miniature Poodle. This mix means it is little surprise that Isla and Luna enjoy swimming. Golden Retrievers were originally bred for retrieving game from water, while Poodles were also bred to be water retrievers and even have webbed feet. With more than 800,000 views on Instagram since being shared earlier this month, people couldn't get enough of the adorable moment in the comments. "This is the best thing I've seen all day," said one commenter. While another wrote: "I love how she doesn't take the puppy out too far." "This is amazing!!!! Wow love how attentive and sweet she is with the baby! Wonderful," said another animal lover. This isn't the first time a puppy's swimming skills have gained viral attention. Earlier this year a man shared the moment that caused equal parts panic and pride when his 14-week-old puppy launched himself into the backyard pool. Concerned, the owner instantly got ready to jump in after Zoro the dog, but to his amazement the puppy worked it out, paddling with ease to the side of the pool. 'Ghost Hunters' Star Talks Annabelle Rumors Over Dan Rivera Cause of Death
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Ghost Hunters star Jason Hawes addressed a rumor that Dan Rivera's death was tied to Annabelle—a doll that inspired the 2013 film The Conjuring and is said to be possessed by evil spirits. Newsweek reached out to Hawes' representative via email for comment on Friday. The Context Rivera died suddenly on Sunday at the age of 54 in a Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, hotel room, the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR) said. The paranormal investigator's death came just one day after he hosted a viewing of the Annabelle doll during NESPR's sold out "Devils on the Run Tour." According to the Pennsylvania State Police report, "nothing unusual or suspicious was observed at the scene." Adams County Chief Deputy Coroner Scott Pennewill added in a statement to Today that Rivera's death "was nothing suspicious" and said that an autopsy, which will likely be available in 60 to 90 days, is "pending." Jason Hawes (left) and Steve Gonsalves from the TV series "Ghost Hunters" are seen at Seminole Casino Hollywood on October 6, 2012, in Hollywood, Florida. Vallery Jean/WireImage What To Know In a statement posted to Facebook on Wednesday, Hawes wrote that "the World lost a good man," adding that Rivera "was an Army veteran, a father of four, a husband, and someone who truly cared about people." He continued: "What's even harder to see right now are the posts blaming his death on things like the Annabelle doll and attacking places like Ghostly Images of Gettysburg Tours and other locations for having events. That needs to stop. His family shouldn't have to read that kind of nonsense while they're grieving. Some people are using his passing to push an agenda for profit, and it's just disgusting. Dan was a family man, a respected paranormal investigator, and he left this world way too soon." Hawes concluded his message: "Let's focus on remembering Dan for who he was, not turning his death into some made up bullshit story to get clicks or attention. Honor the man. Forget the garbage." Dan Rivera is pictured in an Instagram photo from 2023. Dan Rivera is pictured in an Instagram photo from 2023. Dan Rivera/Instagram Annabelle was gifted to a nursing student in 1968, but she and her roommate soon "noticed strange occurrences with the doll," NESPR's website states. "They were introduced to a medium who told them the doll was inhabited by the spirit of a young girl named Annabelle. The two roommates tried to accept the doll's spirit and please it only to have it reciprocate maliciousness and violent intent." NESPR's founders, Ed and Lorraine Warren, "pronounced the doll demonically possessed" and "removed the doll from the house and encased it in a glass box to contain the evil spirited entity." Normally, Annabelle is kept at the Warrens' Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, but it has been on tour. What People Are Saying The NESPR wrote in a statement posted to Facebook on Monday: "It's with deep sadness that Tony, Wade, and I share the sudden passing of our close friend and partner, Dan Rivera. We are heartbroken and still processing this loss. Dan truly believed in sharing his experiences and educating people on the paranormal. His kindness and passion touched everyone who knew him. Thank you for your support and kind thoughts during this difficult time." Ghost Adventures star Zak Bagans said in a statement to Us Weekly on Wednesday: "My thoughts and prayers go out to [Rivera's] family and friends. I can only speak to my experiences with Annabelle. I did have the opportunity to investigate Annabelle when the owner brought her to my museum in 2017. I got very affected by her and it kind of caused me to touch the doll. The owner didn't like that too much. It was a demonic infestation and severely affected me, and I was literally in the hospital the next day. It was a two-month-long attachment and one of the worst experiences of my life." What Happens Next? The newest film in The Conjuring franchise, The Conjuring: Last Rites, will be released in theaters in September.
