Road rage incident leaves girl, 5, shot in leg — and the bullet in her sippy cup

New York Post06-07-2025
A 5-year-old girl was shot through the leg — with the bullet lodged in her sippy cup — during a terrifying rush-hour road rage incident in North Carolina.
Charles Edward Stevenson Jr., 20, is accused of firing a single shot at the girl's dad, who was driving a Ford F150 on US Route 1 near Raleigh before 8 p.m. Monday. But the bullet pierced through little Ema's right leg, local network WRAL reported.
The slug was later found in the girl's sippy cup.
'Your stomach just drops all the way down,' Aubree Allison, the girl's aunt, told WRAL of the heart-stopping encounter.
'What an image that is. And it's nothing that you hope happens in your own life,' she added in regards to the bullet found in the cup.
3 Ema, 5, was struck in the leg by a bullet allegedly meant for her father when the two became targets of a highway road rage incident in North Carolina on Monday.
WRAL
Ema's dad told cops that Stevenson was driving erratically on the major thoroughfare — with the 20-year-old throwing something out of his window at another car, which had instead hit the F150.
When Ema's dad, whose name was not released, rolled down his window to yell at Stevenson, the young man fired a single bullet at the pick-up truck, which ended up striking the innocent girl.

Her rehabilitation time is expected to take between four and six months but the brave little girl is expected to make a full recovery, The News & Observer reported.
Stevenson faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm into occupied property.

18-wheeler driver who allegedly fell asleep on the highway, killing 5, indicted on 9 felony charges

The man who allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler causing a deadly crash in Kaufman County has been indicted on nine felony counts related to the crash. Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, 27, was indicted on four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and five counts of manslaughter, according to Kaufman County court records. Five people died and a sixth person was hospitalized after the crash on I-20 near Hiram Road on June 28, authorities said. The crash happened at about 2:40 p.m., when the Texas Department of Public Safety said Gonzalez-Companioni allegedly fell asleep behind the wheel of his 18-wheeler and did not see stalled traffic in front of him. He then struck a Ford F-150 carrying five people. Four of the five people in the Ford F-150 were pronounced dead at the scene, while the fifth was flown to a hospital in critical condition, DPS said in a news release. The 18-wheeler driven by Gonzalez-Companioni was then pushed into two other 18-wheelers, causing one to jack-knife and strike a Jeep Compass, a Ford Mustang, and a Honda passenger vehicle, according to DPS. One person in the Jeep Compass struck by the jack-knifed semi was also pronounced dead at the scene, DPS said.

Infant found abandoned in Tennessee is related to 4 people found dead

The names of the four people found dead in Lake County, Tennessee, have been released by authorities. District Attorney General Danny Goodman Jr. has also confirmed that the deceased are relatives of an infant that was found abandoned. They have been identified as 15-year-old Braydon Williams, 20-year-old Adrianna Williams, 21-year-old James M. Wilson, and 38-year-old Cortney Rose, according to a July 30 update shared by the Dyer County Sheriff's Office. In one of the initial updates about the case on July 29, the sheriff's office stated in a Facebook post that they wanted to speak to Cortney Rose, Matthew Wilson, and Adrianna Williams. Their bodies were discovered on July 29 in Tiptonville, a town in Lake County, hours after authorities found an abandoned infant in a car seat outside an estimated 40 miles away near Tigrett in Dyer County. Baby's parents, grandmother, and uncle were found dead: Reports According to outlets Fox 13, WRAL, and People, the victims were relatives of the surviving baby, including the parents, grandmother, and uncle. Their identities were not initially released pending notification to the family. Investigators are looking for suspects in connection with the case. The baby was found in front of someone's yard On July 29, Dyer County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a call about the reported 7-month-old girl just after 3:00 p.m. Witnesses contacted the sheriff's office after seeing the infant sitting in a car seat in a person's front yard near Tigrett. Officials shared that "a dark-colored minivan or a white mid-size SUV was reported to have dropped off" the child. Soon after, the four bodies were discovered, and authorities announced the possible connection between the two cases. Speaking to WMC-TV, longtime Lake County resident Melissa Peal called the events "horrific" and "bad for this community." Investigation underway into both incidents Dyer and Lake County District Attorney Danny Goodman told the outlet that the community shouldn't be concerned, and it "appears to be an isolated incident."
