Ford recalls nearly 1.1-million vehicles over rearview camera software issue
Ford is recalling nearly 1.1-million vehicles in the US because rearview cameras may not display images due to a software issue, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall covers some 2021 through 2024 model year Bronco, F-150, Edge, and 2023-2024 Escape, Corsair, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 and F-600 vehicles, the carmaker said on Wednesday in a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall also affects the 2022-2024 Expedition, 2022-2025 Transit, 2021-2023 Mach-E, Lincoln Nautilus, 2024 Ranger, Mustang and the 2022-2024 Navigator. The NHTSA said the software issue may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display. Ford said it is aware of one allegation of a minor crash resulting in property damage tied to the issue. In January, the NHTSA contacted Ford regarding allegations of more than three dozen rear-view camera complaints on 2021-2023 Ford F-150 vehicles.

Ford Issues Major Recall of 1.1 Million Vehicles Due to Rearview Camera Glitch
The Ford Motor Company has issued a sizable recall of over 1 million vehicles, including electric and hybrid vehicles, stemming from a problem with the rearview camera system that could result in accidents and property damage. A "software error" potentially exists in the affected models' rearview camera systems, which shows drivers a video feed facing behind the vehicle while in reverse to help them safely back up. This issue can potentially cause that video feed "to delay, freeze or not display when the vehicle is in reverse," according to the company's filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Around 1.1 million vehicles released between 2021 and 2025 were named in the recall, which Ford submitted to the NHTSA. Ford was initially contacted by the administration in January after it received three dozen complaints about this issue in 2021-2023 Ford F-150 models. The company is aware of at least one allegation where this glitch resulted in a minor accident that resulted in property damage. If your vehicle has been recalled, it'll need a free software update. "The accessory protocol interface module (APIM) software will be updated by a dealer or through an over-the-air update, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed June 16, 2025," the filing explained. "A second letter will be sent once the remedy is available, anticipated for third quarter 2025." Has your Ford been recalled? The recall includes the following cars: Lincoln Nautilus and Mach-E models released between 2021 and 2023. Bronco, F-150 and Edge models released between 2021 and 2024. Escape, Corsair, F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 and F-600 models released across 2023 and 2024. Expedition and Navigator models released between 2022 and 2024. Transit models released between 2021 and 2025. Ranger and Mustang models released in 2024. If you have any questions about this recall, you can reach out to the NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236 (TTY 888-275-9171) or go to Ford did not respond to a request for comment before publication.

Ford recalls one million vehicles over rearview camera malfunctions
Ford is recalling more than 1 million vehicles due to a software problem that can cause the rearview cameras to freeze or delay images while a driver is reversing. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a notice that the error on some Ford vehicles poses crash risks as the backup camera may not accurately display images correctly while drivers are backing up. Ford said that no injuries have been reported in connection to the issue, but noted that it is "aware of one allegation of a minor crash resulting in property damage," according to the recall notice. The NHTSA notified Ford of the issue on January 17. Owners of affected vehicles will receive a letter in the mail about the issue by June 16, according to the notice. A second letter will be mailed out later this year with further information once a solution is made available. Ford said it is planning to update its vehicle software this year for free through its dealers or through remote updates. Owners with concerns can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The recall number connected to the latest recall is 25549. Brookline crash escalates: Man allegedly attacks driver with hatchet or axe
The Prius had extensive impact damage and deployed airbags. Multiple windows were shattered, and the tempered windshield glass had been severely dented and punctured, consistent with multiple blows from a hard, sharp-edged object. Advertisement The officer identified the driver of the Prius and was able to speak to them after they called their uncle so he could act as a translator over the speaker phone. He told the officer that they had somehow been encroached upon in traffic by another motorist in a gray pickup truck, which they described as a gray F150, somewhere in the area of Cambridge Street. He said the truck had chased them and that they had been forced off the road as a result of the suspect's dangerous driving. He also said that he had felt disoriented after the crash but remembered the suspect aggressively confronting him and smashing his vehicle windows with a hammer or axe. Advertisement He described the suspect as a white male who was about 25 years old, with an average to slight build, and brownish hair. He said the suspect had swung the hatchet at him and chased him down the street a short distance while waving it. He said he did not remember where the suspect or his vehicle had gone after attacking him. Witnesses told the officer that they saw the suspect chasing the victim, on foot , along the sidewalk while armed with an axe. One witness said the suspect had walked towards Babcock Street away from the crash scene and suggested the officer may be able to obtain surveillance video from the witness' workplace Another witness gave the officer a 10-second cell phone video she had taken that was timestamped at 10:46 p.m. It shows a white male with an average build, short-to-average height, medium-length hair, and short beard. He is wearing a white T-shirt with a plain front and the words 'Natural Flow' on the back, dark blue jeans, and brown sneakers. The video shows the man smashing the victim's vehicle repeatedly with a small hatchet. The victim's hand, which was injured in the crash, was bandaged by firefighters. He declined further medical attention. The incident remains under investigation. Adam Sennott can be reached at
