Tigers' former utility player claimed by the Dodgers on Friday
Buddy Kennedy, 26, hasn't played for the Detroit Tigers since last April. After being claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday, the utility player is set to join his fourth major league team in just over a year.
According to Evan Woodbery of MLive, the young utility player was picked up by the Dodgers after the Toronto Blue Jays signed Kennedy, along with pitcher Joe Mantiply, to minor league deals in July.
The Dodgers made the move to add Kennedy to their 40-man roster after placing third baseman Max Muncy on the 10-day injured list for the second time this season with an oblique strain.
Buddy Kennedy's experience has spanned five different teams, but he has only appeared in 60 major league games since 2022. In the 140 at-bats he's had, Kennedy has career statistics that include a .193 batting average, .288 on-base percentage, .300 slugging percentage, and a .588 OPS while hitting two home runs and 19 RBI. The Los Angeles Dodgers made the move on Kennedy before the start of a crucial three-game series against the San Diego Padres on Friday. KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals scratched catcher Salvador Perez from the starting lineup of their series opener against the Texas Rangers on Monday night because of an illness. Perez was supposed to catch for starter Michael Wacha and bat fifth in the opener of an important four-game set between teams clinging to wild-card hope. Luke Maile will be behind the plate instead and bat eight in the lineup. Perez, a nine-time All-Star, is hitting .244 with 22 homers and 70 RBIs this season.
