Matty Healy's mother Denise Welch takes swipe at his ex Taylor Swift

Express Tribune25-07-2025
Taylor Swift's former relationship with Matty Healy was briefly back in the spotlight following a comment from Healy's mother, Denise Welch.
Appearing on Watch What Happens Live! on Thursday, the British actress was asked about Swift's 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department, widely speculated to include several songs referencing Healy.
Welch didn't hold back. 'Obviously, on pain of death can I talk about that episode, but not being her mother-in-law is a role that I am glad that I lost,' she said, drawing gasps from the studio audience. She quickly followed with, 'Not that I have anything against her at all. It was just — it was tricky.'
Reflecting on Swift's lyrical approach, Welch added, 'You're not allowed to say anything, and then she writes a whole album about it.' Despite this, she clarified that her son 'took the aftermath of Swift's eleventh studio album all in good grace.'
Swift and Healy briefly dated from May to June 2023 after her split from actor Joe Alwyn. During their short time together, Healy was seen attending Swift's Eras Tour concerts and accompanying her in New York City.
Since their split, both artists have moved on. Healy is now engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel, while Swift began dating NFL star Travis Kelce in mid-2024.

'Peaky Blinders' creator to write 007 reboot

Steven Knight, the creator of gritty TV crime series Peaky Blinders, will write the highly anticipated next James Bond movie, studio Amazon MGM announced Thursday. Knight will work alongside previously announced director Denis Villeneuve (Dune) to bring the world's most famous fictional spy back to the big screen after a prolonged absence. Amazon MGM Studios acquired creative control of the 007 movies in February, and has moved quickly to get one of Hollywood's most valuable franchises back into production. There has been no new Bond film since 2021's No Time To Die. Knight is best known as the mind behind violent British gangster series Peaky Blinders, which was set in industrial England at the turn of the 20th century and became a global hit. Running for six seasons, and with a Netflix film version currently in the works, Peaky Blinders turbo-charged the careers of leading man Cillian Murphy, alongside a stellar supporting cast including Tom Hardy, Anya Taylor-Joy and Kingsley Ben-Adir. In addition to Peaky Blinders, Knight also co-created the wildly popular television quiz show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and has penned four novels. The Birmingham, England-based screenwriter, producer and director's other TV credits include Taboo, See, This Town, and All the Light We Cannot See. The Bond films, based on Ian Fleming's novels, have earned more than USD7 billion collectively at the global box office since debuting in 1962. No release date or title has yet been set for the film franchise's 26th instalment. And despite frenzied speculation among fans, there has been no announcement on which actor will replace Daniel Craig as the suave British super-spy. Among the actors most discussed to be the next Bond are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Holland, Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi, and Ben-Adir - but Amazon MGM has so far refused to disclose the franchise's most closely guarded secret.

‘The Holiday' limited series adaptation reportedly in development at Apple TV+

Apple TV+ is developing a limited series adaptation of the beloved 2006 romantic comedy The Holiday, according to Variety and Deadline. The project, which is currently in early development, will reimagine the premise of the original film while introducing a new cast of characters. As with the Nancy Meyers-directed film, the upcoming series will follow two women — one American and one British — who swap homes over the Christmas season and unexpectedly find love. Unlike the movie, however, the series will not follow the original characters portrayed by Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black. Krissie Ducker (Killing Eve, Sweetpea) is attached to write and executive produce the show, with Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) also contributing as a writer. The series is being produced by Left Bank Pictures. Notably, Nancy Meyers, who wrote, directed, and produced the 2006 hit, is not involved in the TV adaptation. Casting is currently underway. Should the team secure the right talent, the show is expected to receive an official greenlight from the streamer. The original film was a box office success, grossing over $200 million globally. Over time, The Holiday has gained cult status, often cited as a go-to comfort film during the holiday season. The movie featured Winslet as Iris, a London-based journalist, and Diaz as Amanda, a Los Angeles businesswoman. Their decision to swap homes during the holidays led them to cross paths with Graham (Law) and Miles (Black), forming the film's central romantic arcs. Ducker is represented by Independent Talent Group and Black Bear. She began her career as a writer's assistant on Catastrophe, which Delaney co-created and starred in alongside Sharon Horgan.

Princess Anne's son Peter Phillips gets engaged to Harriet Sperling

Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne and eldest grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, has officially announced his engagement to Harriet Sperling. The couple shared the news after a year of dating, releasing two joyful portraits that show Harriet beaming in a white frilly outfit, her diamond ring clearly on display. The statement, issued through a representative, confirmed that both families were delighted by the announcement. The King and Queen, as well as the Prince and Princess of Wales, have all been informed. A wedding date has yet to be set. Peter and Harriet's relationship began in 2024, reportedly after meeting at a sporting event. Their public debut came during the Badminton Horse Trials in May of that year, and they were later seen attending Royal Ascot, where Harriet was photographed chatting with King Charles and Queen Camilla. Harriet, an NHS paediatrician and writer, has since become a familiar face at several royal-adjacent events. This will be the second marriage for Peter, who was previously married to Autumn Kelly. The former couple share two daughters and continue to co-parent. Harriet also has a daughter, Georgia, and has spoken publicly about the challenges of single motherhood and finding strength through devotion to her child. Royal watchers had speculated that an engagement was imminent after Harriet joined Peter in the royal procession at Ascot earlier this year. Commentators have praised her effortless style and growing popularity, noting that the so-called 'Harriet-effect' has already caused a stir in British fashion circles. With the royal family welcoming another new member, excitement is building around what will likely be a high-profile wedding in the coming months.
