IU Indianapolis hires Ben Howlett as coach following his dominant run at Division II West Liberty

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — IU Indianapolis hired Ben Howlett away from Division II West Liberty (W.Va.) to take over the men's basketball program, the school announced Monday.
Howlett replaces Paul Corsaro, who was fired May 13 for what the university said was his treatment of players during his only season with the Jaguars.
Howlett was 217-37 at West Liberty with eight straight Mountain East Conference regular-season titles and eight straight NCAA Tournament appearances. His 2023 team reached the Division II championship game.
West Liberty averaged 100.2 points per game last season and finished 30-5.
IU Indy was 10-24 overall and 6-14 in the Horizon League last season.

Texans' Brevin Jordan suffers another season-ending injury

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston Texans tight end Brevin Jordan was placed on injured reserve Tuesday, marking the second straight year he's sustained a season-ending injury. The team didn't specify his injury, but he appeared to injure his lower leg or knee in training camp Monday. This injury comes after he tore an ACL in Week 2 last season. 'He went down with a devastating injury,' coach DeMeco Ryans said. 'It's really rough for a guy that just bounced back from a major injury. So, it's tough on Brevin right now and tough on our entire team.' Jordan was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft. He appeared in 14 games in 2023 when he had a career-high 219 yards receiving with two touchdowns. For his career he has 53 receptions for 532 yards and five touchdowns. ___ AP NFL:

Baltimore Ravens swim with Michael Phelps, get lessons from the Olympic champion

OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) — The Baltimore Ravens got their chance to swim with Michael Phelps. A couple of weeks after players shot video asking the 23-time Olympic champion — and Baltimore native — for swimming lessons, Phelps showed up at practice Tuesday. Then the team posted video of players swimming and diving — or at least leaping off diving boards — at nearby Loyola University. In one video posted by a reporter for the team's website, Phelps let everyone else have a significant head start before diving in and racing them. At least some of them did beat him to the end. Phelps also toured the smaller pools at the Ravens' facility, and he spoke to the team on the practice field along with former Ravens star Ray Lewis. 'I'm not going to say I'm a big swimming fan, but I know Michael Phelps,' defensive coordinator Zach Orr said. 'I think it was neat having him and Ray come talk to us, because the message was the same. That's one thing you notice when you listen to the greats. When you study the greats, you wonder, 'How do they do such great things in the highest tense moments?' And it all leads back to the work that nobody sees, and that's what Michael Phelps talked about. Ray talked about preparation. Michael Phelps talked about preparation as well.'
