Labubu mania: The viral plushie that is sweeping the nation
Blink and you'll miss the chance to buy them, that's just how popular the viral plushy trends have become and at the height of this is the Labubu doll.
A little monster plush toy has become the go-to accessory for designer handbags, coming in all different styles the toys have taken over Australia with the allure of the plush coming in mystery boxes.
The toy craze is in full force across the country, leaving many Australian's counting down the newest release for the monster plushie's.
But where have they come from?
The Hong Kong plush toy has been around since 2015, but it's only in the past year after a member of Korean band Blackpink, Lisa, was spotted with it as both a toy and bag accessory. Blackpink member Lisa with a Labubu in 2024. Credit: Lisa / Instagram
They are dropped in batch releases with a variety of different quirky designs, dropping in mystery boxes so the excitement of which one a buyer will receive can heighten the elation or increase the heartbreak when they unbox the toys.
Perth customers have to go through Pop&Fun, a distributor for the primary retailer the product PopMart, with each blind box costing $32 each and are limited to one per person.
With the high demand and limited supply of the toys, scalpers have been cashing in on the hype and reselling the toy with insane markups.
The small plush toys are being resold online from upwards of $100 each, with some of the rarer items on the market for thousands. For those out of the loop or left perplexed about the trend, think back to Cabbage Patch Kids or Beanie Babies with the hype of social media ballooning the demand.
Labubu's join the likes of Sonny Angel's, Smiski's and Pokemon Cards which saw a skyrocket in value and popularity thanks to online hype.
The craze has taken social media by storm, with influencer's posting videos of their unboxing's online and garnering hundreds of thousands of views. The Labubu toys have become a hot commodity. Credit: Instagram
It's not just Australia that's been seeing red at the sight of the toys, with shops in the UK recently pausing all sales of the plushie's due to allegations of violence from people lining up to buy the collectables.

Hilary Duff is 'proud' of how she and her husband cope with days that 'seem impossible' to deal with
Hilary Duff is "proud" of how she and her husband cope with days that "seem impossible" to deal with. The 37-year-old actress is married to musician Matthew Koma - with whom she has Banks, six, Mae, four, and 12-month-old Townes - and took to social media to celebrate his 38th birthday on Monday (02.06.25), where she insisted that she has a "more balanced" life now because of him. She wrote on Instagram: "My sweet insta poet - I can't compete with your compilation of words but I can share that every one of my days are comfier, funnier, sturdier, and more balanced with you in them. We have celebrated a lot of June 2nds together and since slide nine we've tripled in size. "I'm so proud of us - making it through some of these days seems impossible but you are always there to cook or pack a meal, keep us caffeinated, carry all the bags, let me add one more stop/plan to our day, have a last minute party, or add a new animal into our already pulling at the seams life. " The former 'Lizzie McGuire' star - who was initially married to Mike Comrie and has 13-year-old Luca with him - feels "lucky" to have had her children with Matthew, but joked that she just "hopes" that they have inherited some sort of "filter" from her. She added: "This wild house loves you. You have the most curvy/interesting mind. Truly enthralled and entertained to hear takes from it everyday. I'm lucky our kids are half you and dear god hope they get some filter from me. I hope all your dreams come true this year and and I hope we get a few more Ojai sleeps than the last. Happy 38 Daddy!"

Single ticket scoops entire mammoth $70m Oz Lotto pool
A single winner has claimed Tuesday night's mammoth $70m Oz Lotto draw, with their life changed in an instant. The $70 million first division prize is the second-richest of any Australian lottery game this year, and Oz Lotto's fourth richest prize ever. The winning numbers for draw 1633 are 44, 34, 45, 1, 46, 25 and 21. The supplementary numbers are 9, 14 and 16. Gaming authorities predicted one in five Australians would snap up a ticket for the chance to secure a slice of — if not all — of the huge jackpot. 'If one person takes home the entire $70 million prize, they'll be crowned the second-biggest Australian lottery winner so far in 2025 and Oz Lotto's second-biggest individual lottery winner ever,' The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said this week. 'Previous big Oz Lotto winners have greeted their multimillion-dollar prizes with stunned silence, hysterical laughter and tears of joy. Who knows how someone might react on Tuesday night if they win the entire $70 million jackpot.' Three Oz Lotto division one wins totalling $185 million had been written into the books already this year. A $70 million Oz Lotto jackpot was won earlier this year by a 15-share syndicate in Queensland , with each taking home a $4.7 million slice. A western Sydney woman made history with a $100 million win in February , the game's most lucrative prize ever. 'Who is this? Why are you calling this late?' the winner told The Lotto when contacted after the draw. 'What the hell! Can you repeat that? Oh my god! Don't lie to me!' Just a few weeks later, $15 million was claimed by a North Queensland man.
