Cone excited about possibly adding Quentin Millora-Brown to Gilas if status becomes official

GMA Network2 days ago
While Gilas Pilipinas has not yet received official confirmation regarding Quentin Millora-Brown's FIBA eligibility, national team head coach Tim Cone said he is looking forward to possibly including him in the lineup.
Millora-Brown's name has been floated for the national team even before the Philippines' stint in the FIBA Asia Cup. He even played for the Macau Black Bears in a tune-up game against Gilas Pilipinas ahead of the tournament.
'Nothing official yet, but we're certainly excited about putting him in the lineup if it does become official,' Cone said in a message to GMA News Online.
A report stated that Millora-Brown, who stands at 6-foot-10, has been classified by FIBA as a local, which would allow him to play without being considered a naturalized player.
Born in the United States, Millora-Brown is the grandson of a Filipino doctor. In 2024, he helped lead the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons to the UAAP Season 87 men's basketball title.
GMA News Online has also reached out to Millora-Brown regarding the development.

Kenneth Llover stops Luis Concepcion to remain undefeated

Filipino boxer Kenneth Llover remained unbeaten in his career after stopping former two-division world champion Luis Concepcion in their bantamweight match on Sunday night at Winford Resort and Casino in Manila. Llover had it going early in the match as he floored Concepcion in rounds two and three. The Panamanian boxer, however, flexed his championship composure as he got back on his feet despite absorbing heavy shots from the local bet. Eventually, Llover won the victory via technical knockout at the 2:27 mark of the eighth round. Llover improved his record to 15-0. —JKC, GMA Integrated News

What other teams said about Gilas Pilipinas in the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup

Gilas Pilipinas may have fallen short of its goal of winning gold at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, but the team earned praise from opposing coaches who also showcased their countries' talents on the international stage. The Philippines ended in the top eight of the tournament as it fell against Australia, 84-60, in the quarterfinals. Before that, however, Gilas won back-to-back against Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Here are some of the thoughts from different FIBA Asia Cup coaches on the Philippine team: Experienced "Philippine guys have more experience. They play the World Cup qualifiers, they play the Asian Games with so many players. They've played together for two, three years. So, if you consider the two teams, there is a huge difference in experience. But experience is only one part of the game." — Gianluca Tucci (Chinese Taipei) 'Superstars' "I've known for a long time, this team of the Philippines... all these players, they are superstars over there. And that is when the championship [experience is] coming, they are coming with a superstar. I'm sure that the Philippines is improving [by] playing hard games. That will help them in the future... For me, the Philippines is [a] top four or top six team here." — Veselin Matic (Iraq) "It's top-level in the FIBA rankings. They have excellent players." — Ricard Casas Gurt (Saudi Arabia) Gilas Pilipinas, however, hopes that the praise they received, and the lessons they learned from the tournament, will carry over when they return to action in the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers this November. Gilas Pilipinas Women rise to no. 39 in FIBA world rankings

Gilas Pilipinas Women made a notable leap in the global ladder after the national women's basketball team climbed five spots in the latest FIBA world rankings. The Filipinas soared from no. 44 to no. 39 just a month after their gallant campaign at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup in China. Gilas is also now the seventh best team in Asia and the highest-ranked Southeast Asian team. In the recent Asia Cup, the Patrick Aquino-helmed squad finished sixth overall behind a young crew that featured rising stars Naomi Panganiban, Sumayah Sugapong, Vanessa De Jesus, Kacey Dela Rosa, and Kent Pastrana with veteran center Jack Animam leading the way. The team broke through with a narrow 73-70 win against Lebanon that allowed the country to retain its Division A status. They then fell to South Korea in the qualification to semifinals with a 104-71 loss to bow out of contention. Gilas Pilipinas Women will now carry their newfound momentum into the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand this December, where they aim to reclaim the gold medal they lost in the previous edition after Indonesia's triumph. —JKC, GMA Integrated News
