Police bring ex-BF for questioning in college girl's death

Time of India3 days ago
Kendrapada: Police in Kendrapada district on Friday night brought a 25-year-old man from Chennai for questioning in connection with the death of the 20-year-old college student, who allegedly self-immolated on Wednesday.
The father of the deceased had alleged that his daughter was in a relationship with the man for two years and they had broken up six months ago. The father had also claimed that her ex-boyfriend was threatening to leak her intimate photos and videos online, which forced her daughter to set herself ablaze. The charred remains of the girl were cremated on Thursday night.
Parents of the ex-boyfriend have accused the girl's family of being responsible for her death.
"Our son wanted to marry her, but her parents opposed it due to our financial status. We believe this is a case of 'honour killing'. Parents of the girl are trying to portray it as a suicide. Our son is innocent and never blackmailed her," claimed his mother.
Police are trying to ascertain whether the girl died by suicide or she was murdered.
SP (Kendrapada), Siddharth Kataria, said, "While initial findings suggest self-immolation, we are exploring all possibilities.

14-Year-Old Raped, Killed By Cousin Hours After Tying Rakhi To Him, Body Found Hanging

33-year-old man raped and murdered his minor cousin after she tied Rakhi on his wrist. He staged it as suicide, but police found evidence. Rakshabandhan, a festival where a brother promises to protect his sister, was shamed after a cousin allegedly raped and murdered his minor sister hours after she tied Rakhi on his wrist. The disturbing news was reported from Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya. As per the police, after killing the girl, he hung her body from a noose to make it look like suicide. As per a report by NDTV, after celebrating Rakshabandhan on Saturday, 33-year-old Surjeet went back to his home upon consuming a lot of alcohol. He raped the girl while she was asleep and then killed her. As per the police, the girl's father was asleep in the next room but couldn't hear anything. The girl's body was found hanging the next day. After the gruesome killing, Surjeet started misleading the investigation. Police got suspicious when he did not let any other family member answer the questions. As the police reached the murder spot, they were sure it was not a suicide case because there were bloodstains in several places. Her body was sent for a post-mortem, which confirmed rape. NDTV further reported that Surjeet was held and he confessed to the crime during interrogation. PTI report, the police have arrested the 29-year-old relative, the husband of the class 10 student's paternal aunt, under various sections of the BNS and POCSO Act. The police further said, the accused was remanded to judicial custody after a local court rejected his bail application. Police also detained four other accused who also video recorded the rape. As per the girl's complaint, the relative visited their residence on Raksha Bandhan on August 9, and took her to a deserted place where she was gang-raped. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton seeks jail time for Beto O'Rourke over fundraising violation amid redistricting battle

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton asked a judge to put Beto O'Rourke in jail. Paxton says O'Rourke broke a court order by raising money to help Democratic lawmakers who left Texas. Earlier this month, a Texas judge stopped O'Rourke and his nonprofit group, Powered by People, from fundraising to support the Democratic lawmakers' move out of Texas. Paxton claims O'Rourke ignored this order and kept asking for donations through the Democrat's ActBlue platform. Paxton said, 'He's about to find out that running your mouth and ignoring the rule of law has consequences in Texas. It's time to lock him up', as per the report by USA Today. Israel-Gaza conflict: Al Jazeera says 4, not 5, staff killed in Israeli strike; 2 victims were freelancers

Anas al-Sharif (AP) A recent Israeli airstrike killed four Al Jazeera journalists and two freelancers, the Qatar-based broadcaster said on Tuesday, correcting its earlier report that five of six victims were staff members. Initially, the network identified correspondents Anas al-Sharif and Mohammed Qreiqeh and camera operators Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa as those killed in Sunday's attack. In a corrected report on its English-language website, Al-Jazeera clarified that Moamen Aliwa was a freelance cameraman and the sixth journalist killed in the attack, Mohammed al-Khalidi was also a freelancer. "An earlier version of this story referred to Israel killing five Al Jazeera staff. The number of Al Jazeera journalists Israel killed was four," Al Jazeera stated. The late Sunday strike on a tent outside the main gate of Gaza City's Al Shifa hospital has drawn international condemnation, and Al Jazeera has called the act an 'assassination.' Moments before his death, Anas al-Sharif, 28, an Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent known for his extensive reporting from northern Gaza, posted on X that Israel was carrying out intense, concentrated bombardments, referred to as 'fire belts', on Gaza city's eastern and Southern areas. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like New Container Houses Indonesia (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search ads Search Now Undo The Israeli military acknowledged carrying out the strike, one of Al Jazeera's most recognisable correspondents, alleging he was a 'terrorist' who 'posed as a journalist,' reports AFP. Al Jazeera condemned the killings and rejected the allegations against Sharif, stating the Israeli attack came after "repeated incitement and calls by multiple Israeli officials and spokespersons to target the fearless journalist Anas Al Sharif and his colleagues." In a final message dated April 6, intended for release in the event of his death, al-Sharif wrote that he had 'lived the pain in all its details' and had 'tasted grief and loss repeatedly,' reported Al Jazeera. 'Despite that, I never hesitated to convey the truth as it is, without distortion or misrepresentation, hoping that God would witness those who remained silent, those who accepted our killing, and those who suffocated our very breaths,' Sharif said. Media watchdog Reporters Without Borders (RSF) stated in early July that the war in Gaza has claimed the lives of over 200 journalists, including several working for Al Jazeera.
