Lucknow: The MangoBaba app developed by a group of farmers in Malihabad is offering fresh and carbide-free Malihabadi Mangoes right at one's doorstep at an affordable rate. Former director of CISH Shailendra Rajan, the brainchild behind the app, said: "The mangoes delivered through the app are sourced directly from farmers who use techniques certified by the Central Institute for Subtropical Horticulture (CISH).
These techniques include bagging, scientific harvesting, pest control, pruning and a specially designed harvester that prevents bruising while plucking the fruit, minimising the chance of spoilage. These practices help produce naturally safe, high-quality mangoes." He said though the app was launched in 2020 during the pandemic it didn't get much traction.
"The app has evolved over the years with a better user interface, real-time tracking, and payment options, including COD (cash on delivery) and online payment.
The app features on Google Play Store. Though the app has no direct govt intervention or formal price regulation, transparency and fairness in pricing are maintained," Rajan said.
He said with India Post as the logistics partner, deliveries can be made to far-off places as well. Rajan said mangoes offered on this platform are sold at almost the same price as those in the market. However, the value addition lies in packaging; each order is provided in a box with a protective foam net, a feature rarely seen on other platforms.
"Mangoes are first properly graded and then priced accordingly. This ensures better quality control and more value to the customer. Every mango is traceable" he said.

Kozhikode beach to get modern food street

Visitors to Kozhikode beach will soon be able to enjoy a variety of cuisines in a cleaner, more organised setting as the Kozhikode Corporation gears up to open a modern food street within a month. The project, implemented jointly by the Food Safety department, National Health Mission, and the Kozhikode Corporation, will introduce specially designed pushcarts, or 'banks,' arranged in a uniform style along a 240-metre stretch of the beach. Work is currently in progress, with the first two model carts already placed at the site. The food street is expected to be ready by September 15. According to Corporation officials, around 90 food carts will operate from the stretch, each set up on raised platforms with seating areas provided for visitors. 'The aim is to ensure people can enjoy their food while listening to the sea and feeling the breeze, in clean and aesthetic surroundings,' said P. C. Rajan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Public Works. He added that only vendors included in the Corporation's approved list would be permitted, while all unauthorised vendors currently operating on the beach would be evacuated. Declaring the area as a vending zone, officials said the new initiative would replace the stalls that currently dot the beach. 'This will not only provide hygienic and safe food but also bring order and beauty to the beach premises,' Mr. Rajan noted. Water and other facilities would also be provided for vendors, he added. P. Divakaran, Chairman of the Welfare Committee, said the food street would feature dishes from across the country, with both North Indian and South Indian cuisines on offer. The project also includes special lighting and other amenities to enhance the ambience, he said. The food street, with 89 authorised vendors expected to begin operations by the end of the month, is part of the Corporation's broader effort to regulate street vending within its limits while ensuring food hygeine and public health.

FASTag Annual Pass Crosses 5 Lakh Registrations In Four Days

The newly launched FASTag annual pass has crossed five lakh user registrations across the country in four days, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has said. Tamil Nadu led the largest number of annual passes purchased over the last four days, followed by Karnataka and Haryana, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement. The maximum transactions through FASTag Annual Pass at the toll plazas were recorded in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. As of 7:00 pm on the first day of implementation on August 15, around 1.4 lakh users had purchased and activated the yearly pass, with approximately 1.39 lakh transactions registered at toll plazas, stated NHAI. In addition to this, the Rajmargyatra app, the official platform to purchase and activate the FASTag annual pass, has become the top-ranking government app on Google Play Store within four days of launch. The Rajmargyatra app is ranked 23rd on the Google Play Store overall and second in the Travel category, with over 15 lakh downloads and a 4.5-star rating. According to NHAI, around 20,000 to 25,000 people use the Rajmargyatra app at the same time. People who bought the annual FASTag pass get a message when they cross a toll plaza, the ministry said. The pass will allow up to 200 toll crossings or a year-long validity, whichever comes first. The cost of the pass is Rs 3,000, and when the validity or the toll limit expires, users can recharge it like any other prepaid card. Any non-commercial vehicle having a valid FASTag can use the pass, activated within two hours of a one-time charge payment made via the Rajmargyatra App or the NHAI website. The annual pass can be used at around 1,150 toll plazas across the country on national highways and expressways.
