Saudi Gazette28-07-2025
Jotun, one of the world's leading manufacturers of paints and coatings, is celebrating 40 years of successful operations in Saudi Arabia, marking four decades of contribution to the Kingdom's most iconic landmarks and infrastructure development.
Since establishing its first Saudi operations in 1985, Jotun has become deeply embedded in the nation's architectural heritage, protecting and beautifying structures that define the Saudi skyline.
Since the inception of the Kingdom's modern infrastructure development through to today's ambitious megaprojects, Jotun's protective and decorative coatings have preserved majority of iconic landmarks that symbolize Saudi Arabia's progress.
'Our success over the past 40 years is built on a strong team, deep-rooted values, and a stable long-term strategy that has enabled us to contribute to national infrastructure and supporting sustainable development,' said Morten Fon, President and CEO of Jotun Paints.
'As we look to the future, we remain committed to offering innovative, high-performance solutions that meet the needs of a transforming nation.'
Over the past four decades, the company has delivered approximately two billion liters of paint, coating more than 300 million square meters across Saudi Arabia.
The company's presence has grown to include 500 Multicolour Centres throughout the Kingdom, creating a network that provides a curated, personalized experience for professional and homeowners alike.
Looking to the future, Jotun Saudi Arabia has announced plans to double its production capacity through significant investments in Jotun's manufacturing facilities in Yanbu.
The expansion will incorporate advanced technologies that enhance both production efficiency and sustainability.
"As Saudi Arabia continues its remarkable transformation, we are expanding our capabilities to meet growing demand,' said Martin Chew, Vice President Middle East and Africa. "This investment reflects our commitment to local manufacturing excellence and our confidence in the Kingdom's continued development."
'This 40-year milestone is not only a celebration of our past, but a commitment to the future,' Fon added. 'Our legacy is defined by our values, long-standing partnerships, premium products, and great people. We will continue to deliver reliable paint solutions for protection, performance, and beauty to the Kingdom for generations to come.'
To mark this important milestone, Jotun Saudi has planned a year-long series of celebratory events to honor its employees, partners, and legacy—reinforcing its deep-rooted connection with the Kingdom and its people.

Saudi stock market may open to global investors, regulator says

Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — Saudi Arabia's Capital Market Authority (CMA) is currently studying the feasibility of opening the Saudi stock market to all investors worldwide, according to a statement given to Bloomberg. The CMA said that the recent move to allow residents of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries to trade directly in the Saudi market was a 'logical and natural' step, citing strong economic, social, and regulatory ties across the region. Notably, these residents will remain eligible to trade even if they relocate outside the Gulf. The move comes amid broader efforts by the Kingdom to liberalize its financial markets, attract global investors, and diversify sources of capital. Foreign investors from outside the GCC accounted for a record 35% of Saudi equity purchases during the second quarter of 2025, according to Bloomberg Intelligence. Saudi Arabia has ramped up its push to attract high-frequency trading firms, broadened the diversity of its IPO pipeline, and relaxed some restrictions for foreign participation in the equity market. In July, Saudi-listed shares on the Tadawul All Share Index (TASI) were trading at a 32% discount compared to stocks on the MSCI All Country World Index (ACWI), based on forward price-to-earnings ratios.

Al Othaim market share hits 21%, results remain balanced: CEO

Muwaffaq Mubarak, CEO of Abdullah Al Othaim Markets Co., said the company operates 411 branches across Saudi Arabia, driving a 10% rise in customer numbers and boosting market share to 21%. He told Argaam that growth stemmed from strong performance at existing stores, new branch openings, higher service demand, and an improved shopping experience. Othaim Express and Cash & Carry maintained strong momentum in Q2 2025, with Express posting customer growth driven by residential area coverage and speedy service. Cash & Carry improved sales and operational efficiency, fueled by higher demand from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and bulk-buying consumers, while both Cash & Carry and Express support the company's diversification and customer expansion strategy. Mubarak expects Q3 2025 performance to remain strong, driven by branch network growth, seasonal back-to-school demand, and improved purchasing power. He added that the company is investing in digital transformation and customer experience, with a strategy centered on smart expansion, operational efficiency, and growing real estate and core income to drive long-term growth. Renewing the Dammam shopping center lease boosted real estate income and future financial stability, as the new agreement reflects current market value and enables stronger asset returns. The contract had a clear positive impact on non-operating income, boosting income diversification alongside core operations. Q2 2025 results showed balanced performance despite seasonal shifts and market challenges, with revenue up 3% YoY and operating profit rising 8.8%, reflecting stronger margins and efficiency. Despite this, H1 2025 net profit fell 25% YoY to SAR 117.5 million, compared to SAR 156.4 million a year earlier. Q2 profit came in at SAR 41.1 million, according to Argaam 's data.
